Much like the WR position in the draft this year, the Ravens have a great shot at coming away with a strong OC who can do wonders for our offense. The question is how serious are they about becoming a top notch offense? There are some guys out there that fit exactly what we should want to do on offense, even down to the ZBS and wouldn't have to make wholesale changes. The time is now to make the commitment to the offense and I feel if we promote within we're just staying the course and hoping a few minor tweaks can make use better.

I definitely want someone who can make in-game adjustments, you have to be able to do that in the NFL. A lot of what I've heard about his lack of in-game adjustment has come from the fans and i'm always hesitant to put much stock into what us emotional fans feel about something when things are going bad. But if true I don't like that. However I feel with everything comes good and bad. If we can get a offense that designs our guys to work in as much space as that Texans offense did, i'd be willing to live with the in game adjustment hiccup. Btw, Whenever the Ravens played the Texans I don't recall having a feeling that we had a handle on their offense because they didn't adjust, so I'm not sure how much of an issue it is. But just look at this highlight video and look at all the space and creativity of that offense off the playaction. I just think with what the Ravens have been trying to do in recent years, ZBS running game, deep passing game, open things up for your QB and now you can add a strong play action game which Flacco is really good at, he makes a lot of sense as our next OC. Plus he's an aggressive play caller even when his team has a 14-17 point lead and Flacco has been asking for that the past 2-3 years. His entire playbook is built around the ZBS and it looks like we're keeping that with Castillo so I don't see why this wouldn't be a perfect match.

Yea his offense does dink and dunk but they run a lot of play action with deep routes and misdirection. Actually that type offense is exactly what i've wanted for years. That offense runs a lot of crosses, deep digs and double moves off of play action which is really tough for a defense to defend. I remember a couple years ago Ed Reed saying how that offense was maybe the best simply because it was so tough to defend.

yea great point. He's definitely a big play OC. We know that even with his explosive offense he can still get the most out of the FB position as evident with Leach's success. Owen Daniels is of the same mold as Pitta, so he should be able to use Pitta, Pierce is the type of RB he loves with that one cut and go style but I'm sure he'd get the most out of Rice as well seeing as how Foster is a receiving weapon out of the backfield. What he did for guys like Jacoby and Walters would give me confidence he'd use our other WRs well and he made sure Andre Johnson moved around a lot to get favorable matchups which I've wanted to see all year with Torrey, so I think he'd definitely be a good choice.

I'm think the logical choice is Kubiak. He has a proven track record of success and his offensive style fits exactly what the Ravens want to do. Remember a couple years back the Ravens all but asked Leach to teach them how to operate that ZBS run game that made the Texans so successful. Now you have the opportunity to bring in the man who actually ran that offense. Does he have flaws? Of course but he's a heck of an offensive coach and as a former QB i think he'd love to build the offense around Joe. I think he and Castillo would work well together and that fact that play action is a huge part of his game would allow us to still have a heavy run presence in our offense. He's made Matt Schuab look like a star at times, I'd love to see what he could do with Flacco, Rice, Pitta, Smith, Pierce, Brown and others.

I want two type of WRs added to this team "this" year. First and foremost I want a Derrick Mason type WR added. A guy that can get open against any coverage and has great hands. He's tough and comes up in the biggest moments. Most people will say a Boldin type because he's the most recent WR to really have success here, but having a Mason type guy is just as good. I think you're more likely to find a Mason type then a physical Boldin type because those types aren't around much. Physical and a strong route runner is rare. The 2nd type of guy I want added is a strong outside guy who can really take over a game. We've never really had that type guy. I've always wanted a Marshall Vincent Jackson, Calvin Johnson, Fitz, Bowe type WR on this team and TO was the closest we came to it. Boldin has the potential to take over games but he has to be used the right way. I want a guy who teams come into a game scared to death to match up with and have to account for ways to stop him all week. I actually think we can come away with both these type of guys in this draft. Also think Aaron Mellete can be that Mason type WR. I also want to find a really good inline TE in this draft and make teams really fear the weapons we have on offense. I get sick to my stomach to see the type of talent that a guy like Andy Dalton or Matt Ryan has and wonder what we could do with that type of offense.

Pitta's numbers will definitely come up in talks but I don't think they will be that important. I think his value will be argued more by his agent and agreed upon by the Ravens as well. If things happen the way I think they will, this offense is gonna open up and put up some big numbers over the next 3-7 weeks and Pitta will have a huge role in that. He's gonna open up the field and make guys like Brown and Jacoby much better. That can't be ignored. Will he get huge money, no, but he'll get a pretty good deal and if he feels the Ravens low ball him, he'll probably get more money on the open market. Remember what happened with Ellerbe and guys like him. When you have success sometimes teams over look numbers. Without the injury Pitta could have easily been a 80-100 catch guy this year, especially if we planed on using him a lot in the Slot like we said. Think about it, he was targeted 11 times in his first game back since the Super Bowl. Now imagine a full season of those type of targets. He's definitely gonna be a valued guy on the market. I imagine we'll attack him and Monroe hard before they hit the market.

He's already had his homecoming while with the Texans, so does he get booed this time around?

I love how people are just writing Doss and the rest of the young WRs off like they've been here 5yrs with little results. The oldest guy is David Reed and he's only entering his 4th year. It's been said that WR is one of the toughest positions for guys to develop at. As someone else said, the Ravens watch these young guys practice and even Jacoby and Boldin rave about those guys. Just because the fans don't see doesn't mean they aren't good. We can watch all the "tape" we want, our opinions on decision making a issues mean nothing. Oh I saw Doss dropp to many passes in the Colts game he sucks. Well the guy that has to use him and implement him intto the offense sees him every day catches passes and running routes. Do we forget that Mason and Heap were cut and every WR/TE on the roster not named Boldin had a combine 12 catches? 11 of those catches came from Dickson. The Ravens aren't having this discussion because they HAVE to, no it's because Boldin is too expensive for what he provides and where the offense is headed. We all love Boldin and many can't seem to see the writing on the wall that his career is on it's last leg. Boldin gave it all he has and played like a man possessed to help this team win the Super Bowl. That was huge and i'm sure the FO appreciate it. However you have to look towards the future not just defending in 2013. Also I think people are really underestimating the impact Cladwell truely had on this offense, both when talking about Boldin and McKinnie. Caldwell did a great job of scheming this offense to create matchup problems. I honestly don't even think we've seen his best yet. A lot of the passes Boldin caught were intended for him to come wide open but he doesn't create separation well, so they were contested. Boldin can definitely get it done still but at what cost? This offense is now run in a way that suits all thw WRs better. I hope the guy will be back, but no way do I feel the offense is doomed without him.
