  1. Misery loves company....that's all I get from the list.
  2. Projected First rounders siting at the tables after the first round is nothing new. The Ravens wanted Bud Dupree and had no intentions of going for a WO in the first round. They certainly weren't going to take a TE and RB in first. Perriman was Plan B. i'm not saying the kid won't turn out to be a killer. He simply wasn't the first choice.
  3. That's with the 49ers. Smith was offered $35million/19gntd from the Ravens. What #22 got was great in guaranteed money and contract value. That also doesn't change the fact that jimmy Smith was extended when the measurables pointed against. Rosenhaus threatened the Ravens with the free market and won. Again J.Smith wasn't even cleared to practice when this took place. So far (including the last game) WOs have been torching Smith. Torrey has a 4 year body of work to measure him by. Stats like the PI yardage are part of the total package. Smith had six teams trying pull him in during free agency with Boldin's helping to seal the deal. I would guess that they weren't all less than smart. Paying Top 5 money to an injured DB with only single season of decent production isn't very smart by any stretch- but Ozzie chased it.
  4. Torrey isn't her because of money and no other reason. 11TDs, 571yds +21 FDs via pass interfernce and 0 fumbles is nothing to sneeze at and we have nothing (even with Sr.) to make up for it. Ozzie refused to pay market value Smith. That's fine but he also refused to pull in a proven free agent or move up in the draft to take what was sorely needed. OTOH he had no problem giving Jimmy Smith a $55million deal ($20million more than Torrey's offer ) while was still injured , still under contract , and literally only one season of decent production where he wasn't teetering between getting injured and getting smoked. Sometimes Ozzie screws up.
  5. It doesn't help that Perriman wasn't primary first round target. He was targeted for he second round but the Steelers snatched up Bud Dupree and forced Ozzie's hand. Ozzie returned the favor with max Williams. I've said for ages that a bigtime receiver is not likely to land in Baltimore because Ozzie can't draft them and he has no intention of paying for one. He just adding more duct tape than to properly address the need. Even if Perriman turns out to be a gem later on he's history at the end of his rookie contract. Ozzie's value is more important than market value.
  6. It's unfortunate that Torrey Smith couldn't make up for our defense giving up two 14 point leads and allowing 35 points.it also doesn't matter that he was grabbed by arm with both hands back at the 20 on the final play couldn't make up the speed. It's also unfortunate that Jacoby took 2-3(with penalty) opportunities off the board by not taking the fair catch and wasting 10 of our last 14 seconds running for last chance at glory. 2014 is gone. It's not like we marching on to the SB anyway. Maybe some remember what luck and company did to us when went Indy and we were healthier. Get over it. 2014 is gone.
  7. I have to think that Pitta has no plans retire because his doctors have given him indication that it's a matter of time before he can play safely- but his playing days aren't quite over. I'm sure Welker , Sr, AP , and many others have gotten got similar crossroads type news.
  8. Cutting makes no sense because of the dead money. If we do do cut him it won't come until after June because we eat $6.6miilion opposed to 2.mill. OTOH it makes perfect sense to ride it out and see what develops through 2016 camp. If he's cleared to play and he's willing to take reduced role he may still be with us. Injuries happen and we can lose any of our three TE's during 2016 camp. In that case it's better to have Pitta available as stop gap oppose to rookie that brought in late and doesn't know the system. In this scenario Pitta's presence doesn't cost us anything until September. * This is all predicated on him being medically cleared , restructured and in need.
  9. A real friend would have stopped this madness.
  10. I knew Pitta wouldn't leave the game voluntarily. The only way he retires is if he doesn't get the clear by training camp 2016. If he is cleared Ozzie would likely restructure to keep him. I think fans greatly exaggerate an NFL teams concern for a players health. They simply say the right things in front of a mic. All teams regard these players as resources to be exploited at the lowest price so I can see Pitta back 2016 if he gets cleared and he's willing to take a big pay cut.
  11. James Harrison was signed by the Steelers right in the midst of the Rice drama and NOBODY on any news network, NFL Network, or ESPN had a bad thing to say about it. There were no rants from Olberman, Beadles , or anyone else venting their cue card outrage. Dez beat his own mother and other women complete with video and 911 tapes. Who hates him in the NFL? There's a sick correlation between performance and public forgiveness.
  12. Actually Ray Rice would have still been playing if Steve Bisciotti had not tampered with his four game suspension only to try to cover his butt by throwing Rice under the bus. He had to vilify Rice because it was Ozzie who came forward and said the Rice told him right away and never lied about what happened which directly counters what Steve Bisciotti said. It didn't add up. Why lie to the owner but be nothing but forthcoming and honest with the GM? Steve got caught in a fib and under the bus Rice went. .
  13. _ Breaking News: No News Yet!_ has gotten tired and the fan base has had its fill of it. At what point do they stop digging a PR hole for this guy and simply bring him out when he's ready should that moment come? Anticipation was replaced by frustration (and borderline resentment) a long time ago and poking fans in the side with a sharp stick every two weeks isn't helping any.
  14. There's no way Pitta walks away from $7million/yr for 2016/17 voluntarily. From his perspective a severe aggravation would knock him out of football but not affect him long term or his quality of life. If he was going to retire there would be no need to wait until any deadline. He's in.
  15. He had no choice being being claimed but my amazement is with these idiot fans that think staying unemployed was ever an option or perhaps some badge of honor.
  16. Steeler fans think they are getting the Jacoby Jones of old. That's what the Chargers thought too. I didn't think for second that Harb would bring in Jones when Ross is getting the job done. With Jones being -4 yards in PR. They have claimed the absolute worse returner in the league. I'm glad common sense prevailed and nostalgia took a back seat.
  17. Givens has earned the additional touches and he might just make those sfatey and corner blitzes decrease in frequency. Brown operating wide takes him out of what he does well and that operate in the slot. He's been there since college and you can't just throw a guy out wide and expect his him to do well. With Boyle and Gilmore he may not have much of a role but it was his mismatches against smaller corners in the slot that made him dangerous.
  18. ...or playing scared.
  19. Smith's confidence has been shaken every since he got torched against the Raiders. He's reverted to his 2011/12 style when he thought being in the area or alongside a WO was enough. When fans are still harping over Torrey being over with 4 years of decent production Jimmy was awarded a whopping $55mill/22gntd deal with only one solid season and while he was still injured. Ozzie got outflanked by Rosenhaus and an open market threat. It's no coincidence that injury talk is back only after he falls short. Everybody claimed he was 100% at the beginning of the season. IMO this is less about injury and more about Smith realizing that nobody is afraid him. He got Top 5 Money. His effort at least (if not his results) should also be Top 5. Right now it isn't.
  20. It seems that with Ross and Givens showing some promise they can get our future project Waller off of the field and in safe keeping. If he hits the practice squad he's good as gone. He's had a taste live game action so he has something to build on. He wasn't supposed to thrown to wolves so early anyway. Why Perriman is still active is beyond me.
  21. The $2mill cut from his $6mill base cut was imminent and Boldin knew it was coming just like all players know it on backloaded contracts. What set infuriated Boldin was that Ozzie made it clear that in addition to the pay cut that he would not be offered an extension. Nobody was willing do more than pick up his current tab. The 49ers picked up the tab i, gave us a pick and placed him well outside of the division. Despite having a killer post-season his less than stellar regular season wasn't forgotten.
  22. I think fans sound less than logical and downright hypocritical when they argue for why someone else should take a self-imposed pay cut that they themselves would never entertain. Ozzie's $35mill/19mill grnted salary was nowhere close to the 49ers $40mill/22mill grntd salary + $8mill signing bonus+$750k workout bonus. There is nobody in this league that would even entertain the thought of staying with their current team. Many fans would rather ignore the fact that Ozzie's job is pay every players the accepted minimum , provide as little contractual security he can and and demonize a player doing the same thing. When a GM win at the table it it's celebrated as a bargain or value signing. When players win at the table it's simply called greed-especially of it's another team that willing to pay. "No player in the NFL is paid what they are worth. You're paid what you can negotiate" - Eric Davis
  23. Fans are still like calling Smith a "one trick pony" but we found out what a lethal trick it is , and what we are without it.
  24. The IR insures that nobody can snatch him up. That kind of play he made doesn't go unnoticed. Camp isn't going for one reason. He makes the play they thought he could when the went back into the the draft to get him.
  25. When Monroe returns that'll be the lift I'm looking for.
