again, watch him yourself. I think he will start. This isn't ed reed here, but he's solid in coverage.
Well obviously he's going to start because we have no one else. The question is if his play will be starting quality.
I have watched what I can find on the guy - and I've read what they all had to say - potential starter IF is what they say.
I hope you're right and I'm wrong. I have no problem being wrong in this instance. I just am not seeing it with what everyone is saying about him.
watch him yourself
He's not an impact player at all. He has bad hands. He misjudges tackles. He's a project guy and we need a starter.
Better FS than Elam was at least?
No I don't believe so in the research I am finding on the guy.
Immediately? Id be surprised. But he's what they're looking for in a FS.
So we didn't take the guy who could start immediately because...you know...why????? Who exactly is going to play FS until the project guy is ready - if he ever is.
Love the Brooks pick
Weaknesses
Could stand to bulk up and get stronger. Inconsistent tackler -- arrives out of control, does not always see what he hits and will miss some tackles seeking the knockout blow. Is built like a cornerback, sustained a concussion as a senior and durability could be an issue given his aggressive playing style. Minimal production on the ball -- was not a playmaker. Has average hands and leaves some INTs on the field. Poor short-shuttle time (7.35 seconds) at the combine.
...but most important...
Has starter-caliber ability if he can improve his ball skills,
Which means he is a project, not an impact player. Not impressed when we could have had Clinton-Dix because we NEED a starter.
It wouldnt shock me to see a WR pick next
Is anyone worth anything really left? I mean that wouldn't be a project.
I do believe I just watched most of what I'd consider possible immediate impact players go off the board.
I love all the crying :,)
Our offense is already arguably better at O-Line, TE, and WR than it was last year through free agency.
Two TEs coming off serious injuries - only 1 of which we've seen actually play (Pitta). A Center that everyone says is only marginally better than Gino. I'll give you WR - but - that is IF no one gets injured. If they do we're back to fill ins like Clark & Stokely.
If we continue to have solid deep drafts year in and year out I don't understand why people think the FO forgot how to do their job, some people on here act like they have no trust in the FO what's up with that. All I ever see on here is people saying best franchise in the league, best front office, Superbowl Champs, and I love the Ravens. Then when the team doesn't draft who someone at home watching the draft on T.V. wants them to draft then everything they have accomplished over the last 15 years means nothing and they don't know how to do their jobs anymore, those guys need to stay in their lane and leave all of the heavy lifting to the guys who are qualified to do so. Thank You!
Last season proved that ignoring offense year in and year out comes back to bite you in the butt because you have no depth to rely on when people get injured or do not play well.
Again. You are thinking this team is going to only address the positions it needs for this year. If you did that and went by position you would get an 8-8 team at best instead of picking the best player available. This is probably the steal of the second round for every team. Ravens can address with FA and trades before the season but if you think for a moment the Ravens didn't need a DL in the draft you are wrong. Ngata and Canty are aging and I can't count how many times both those guys were on the injury list last season.
Stop it. We did that last season. Remember Stokely and Clark? How did that work out? We needed to address the offensive needs this year - baring that we needed to addres FS. We've done neither.
There's still a long time until we pick again. I think that we go defense again before we take our first offensive player.
Of course we do - cuz we always give the offense the left over scraps that aren't going to help anything.
Awful? Alright man, relax a little.
Well they were awful and how have they improved? We have a new center - perhaps - that we really don't know will be any improvement. After all - didn't they all rave about Gino?
Seems like we're doing what we did last year. Addressing the middle of the defense and signing old offensive players through FA.
Yeah cuz it worked so well for us last season.
I'm in a serious bad mood now lol This is crap.
Look at the last superbowl.. defense wins championships, and with our first two picks we have given our defense the tools to be excellent and atop the league. Hopefully we can find a solid safety through draft or free agency when cuts roll around, and a solid slot corner. However, the jury is still out on chykie and asa, although personally I think Asa could emerge as a very solid slot corner
Except we won't be able to stop the deep ball - cuz you know, we still don't have a FS.
And we won't be able to stop anything coming at Flacco from his right side cuz you know, we still don't have a competent RT.
And we might not have any running game, again, if Rice is suspended for a few games - cuz you know, we dont' have anything behind Pierce who is not an every down back nor a receiving back.
F! I wanted latimer bad
And we could have had him but no, we had to take yet another D lineman. I mean, didn't we just draft that last season?
I'm not a happy camper now. We're not helping our offense at all.
Lol. Do you really think that was a scrub pick? Do you know how winning teams are made? Do you know how dominant defenses are formed? We just got a nasty player who's going to dominate in the trenches. That's going to put more pressure on QB's. That's going to make our LB's Mosley/Smith more efficient. And that's going to make our secondary's job MUCH easier as a result. You sound like a rookie fan man. We are building our own defensive dynasty right in front of your eyes and you don't even realize it.
No - I meant all we ever give the offense are the left over scrub picks. Not that this was a scrub pick.
I guess all that talk about it being time to build the offense was just that - talk - and nothing more.
If we wanted to go defense with our 2nd pick - we could have at least taken a FS and filled a need.
If I'm Kubiak I'm already thinking which teams I want to head to next season - one that will pay some attention to offense at draft time other than scrub picks.
I know, right. How pathetic. Football is more important than his kids, eductation or continuing to get his life together.
^^ LOL at my mispelling of "education"....fail...
Also like how you got negged for stating what SHOULD be obvious to anyone over the age of 11. If the guy thinks other things are more important to him than football, I say more power to him. I wish I were able to retire at 24 and enjoy life.
Not shame on him for making other choices.
Shame on him for making it a game of this and that and wasting other people's valuable time. We're not talking months here - we're not even talking he showed up, put some work in - and then decided it wasn't what he wanted to do.
We're talking about the guy practically begging for a second chance through the media - getting it - quitting on it - then STILL being give that chance - and days later, quite cooincidentally on the day he has to actually start putting some work in - deciding - "you know what? nah - it's been a couple days - I'm over it"
Well you know, yep, I'm going to kick the man now, down or not - straight out the door.
I mean, this just says to me McClain woke up today and said "wait, it's Monday? dang, I gotta get out of bed & go work? Nah, I'll just retire again."
Dump this dude hard Ozzie. He isn't worth anyone's time.
Harbaugh said training camp is gonna be tougher this year, if he can make it through the conditioning test, then he'll make the 53.
He's going to have to do more than just make it through the conditioning test to make the final 53 IMO. Especially since he quit on his workout/tryout/see what you got time.
They're giving him a chance by reinstating him so he can take part in OTAs. The ball is in his court. Either he wants this chance and is willing to work for it - or, he doesn't.
Speed is what Torrey and Jacoby are for. Steve Smith brings his toughness, grit, scrappiness, and ability to get separation and make plays to the table! Now, I just hope that he and Flacco and get on the same page quickly before the season begins!
#Mili
I'm hoping he can teach some of that separation & route running to Jacoby, Marlon & Torrey! Or at least that perhaps they'll gain some from osmosis!
I would rather see Ed Reed back here than washed up Clark & he IS washed up. It's why he's always grabbing jerseys because he can no longer keep up. I don't like Clark AT ALL! He's a dirty player!
If we're going on the back-side of 30 for a FS than Reed knows us, the system & we know all his quirks.
I'm excited by this signing. Been waiting on pins & needles all day.
Smith might have lost some speed but he has great hands, is physical, knows how to block & is a good route runner.
It will be good for guys like Marlon & Mellete (and even Torrey) to be around a guy like Smith. Hopefully, they'll pick up how to run some crisp routes.
Thought Jacoby Jones visiting the Giants today was a leverage play. Turns out, he turned down more money elsewhere to stay in Baltimore
Well, gotta love that too.
Yes, and the offense transformed when Jacoby and Pitta came back. And Rice got healthier. Leaves us kind of thin don't you think? The offense was in shambles and absolutely pathetic all year. Some because of injuries. But mostly because of talent. And if you don't see that, then you simply are blind.
The offense was in shambles because we brought in old & slow vets instead of giving playing time to the young WRs we already had like Mellete & Brown. Which is what you now want to do - bring in more washed up vets.
We'll draft a WR or 2 and hopefully, we'll actually give them some playing time. We'll keep Smith (of course) and hopefully Brown (though he'll probably have to compete at camp) and now Jacoby.
There is also something to be said for consistency & chemistry. Something we've not had in our receiving corps for quite some time. You'd have to go back to Mason & Heap to find it.
Pitta will be back this year as well.

A blocking TE who could possibly learn to catch and run routes for a #3 TE.
At least - that is what is being said about him.
Wooohooo ! Eat your crumbs offense!
I really don't want to hear about our offense being crap this coming season when they get no help.
