Once the ball is thrown, it would be PI. That being said, the contact that I see is nothing to warrant a PI call. By the time the ball was thrown Talib already had position on Smith and the ball went right to him.
Gotta disagree with you there. Talib pretty much wrapped his arms around smith and held him till Joe threw the ball.
"I won't keep talking with you until you watch it and see that you're incorrect on this."? Haven't heard something that egotistical in a while, lol.
It's not egotistical... He's dead wrong. He's claiming to have watched something a hundred times and he clearly hasn't or he'd see that he was wrong. It's like saying the sky is green and me saying no it isn't...look again.
Neither interception involved PI that should have been called. As you said, contact to Smith was within 5 yards, and contact to Gillmore only came as/after the ball reached his hands.
The contact of the first interception extended beyond 5 yards, although it did start with in the allowed 5 yards. Also, I don't know if you know this because I don't, but are they allowed to continue to hold within 5 yards even when the ball was being thrown?
The second int wasn't pass interference, rather a penalty often referred to as the defender not playing the ball. It's not called often, and I understand not calling it in this case.
Not being rude and I wasn't even talking about you specificity. There's a lot of People here that defend Flacco on the worst plays. Just stating facts. Just admit he messed up bro.
So when Joe throws in to coverage and it works, he's a great quarterback. But when he throws into coverage and the receiver has PI against him and gives up on the play and all that results in interception, then Joe made a boneheaded decision?
Sorry bro, I don't see it.
No one agrees with you, but I'm wrong. Yeah OK. Dude you're delusional. I've watched the play numerous times. That ball was going to Smith and no one else. The ball was snapped and Joe immediately looks to his right.
It was an awful play by Joe. It's that simple. Every QB's makes boneheaded plays/decisions. Stop making excuses for him
Go back and actually watch it please. I won't keep talking with you until you watch it and see that you're incorrect on this.
Yes every qb makes mistakes. Joes made plenty in his career. But this wasn't one of them. This was just bad luck.
i love how on both Interceptions their was blatant pass interference .. Talib just pushed the wr off the route completely , i forget who it was , and then on the crockett play the defender is allowed to just run into him without even acknowledging the ball? Of course Denver Gets their home cooking tho .. still proud of the defense its the least amount of yds i think they ever held peyton to , and what a stud jimmy is seriously , could be top 5 corner
Absolutely agree. Hopefully the defense can withstand he loss of Suggs and the strong showing wasn't just a result of a washed up manning.
Saying it wasn't a boneheaded play, or it wasn't all his fault is stupid.
Honestly how can you watch that play and not put all the blame on Flacco? He pre-determined where he was going with the ball before the snap. He starred down Smith the entire time. Talib even said that after the game.
It's absolutely ridiculous to even suggest that Smith gave up on that play.
You are wrong on every single point. Congratulations. Go back and watch the clip, Joe was not scaring Smith down the entire time, you have no idea if he predetermined to go there before the snap, and Smith absolutely gave up on the play. These points have almost unanimously been agreed upon by other posters. What we are debating upon is whether or not it was a boneheaded, bad, good, or neutral decision to throw the pass he did in that situation
you said he stared him down for 2 seconds.
that should be more then enough time to figure out if the guy is open or not.
you never throw into coverage because the results can be bad.
you either throw it somewhere else or you throw it away.
also he threw a pass that got picked and returned for a TD.
its the worst thing that can happen to a QB and the offense.
its down right hilarious how you try and act like that wasent his worst decision lol.
aint nothing worse then throwing into coverage and have it result in a pick 6.......
Actually going back and watching the play, Joe Bailey looked at all, he was looking to his left and then turn to the right where Smith was and then threw the ball in almost less than a second.
Joe want to say Super Bowl by throwing to people who weren't open. If you can't realize that then go somewhere else. It's not bad to throw into coverage, if you throw the right path to the right person. Steve Smith was last year and has been in his career, the kind of person who you can trust throwing a ball too well covered. In this instant however, it did not work out but that was hardly Joe's fault.
The interception return for a touchdown might be the worst result, but I said it wasn't his worst decision of the night. To me there were a couple of more riskier throws that he attempted, plus a couple of times where I thought I saw someone open and he didn't see them, even though they seemed to close to his line of sight. I'm still debating in my mind if I like the idea of throwing the ball up to Gilmore in the end zone.
We all know what happens when you assume.
I do think SSS could have done a better job of fighting Talib off contending for the position. After all, he's supposed to be our tough as nails guy. But in the end, Joe needs to not just assume, but see what is happening and take a sack if he has to. A punt right there is not what we want, but we still hold a 4 point lead. That turned the game and we couldn't get it back.
To say Joe was playing under less than favorable conditions yesterday would be a huge understatement. Weaker QBs would have probably turned the ball over several times, as he ended up with a few completions as he was getting pulled on or his arm was getting whacked. But you have to know the circumstances of the game and you can't beat yourself on a play like that.
To me to hold that view is contradictory of what a lot of people here support About Joe on a weekly basis, which is his aggressiveness and willingness to throw into coverage. More people were mad at Torrey Smith then Joe at the end of last year season when Joe through that interception. Me, I thought that it was a stupid decision to go deep in that instant even if Torrey was wide open. But we chalk it up to Joe having an aggressive mentality and you win some you lose some. And that's true and I excepted it, that what makes Joe great will also sometimes backfire. To me, that first interception at worst was just another instance of where sometimes Joe's biggest strength some sometimes comes back to bite him. But it really shouldn't have been an interception, had to leave not been illegally holding or had Smith not just takien it and given up
You're talking to a wall, man. This forum LOVES Flacco.
Now you're just being rude by assuming that I am a blind Flacco lover. Go back and look at comments I made at the patriots divisional game for him when Joe through that last interception going towards Torey Smith. I called Joe decision to throw the bomb Torrey idiotic, as even if it had worked out it would've given Tom Brady a minute and a half to come down the field to win the game. I'll call Joe and his crap when I see it, but saying that this pass with 100% his fault it's just stupid. Interceptions like this happen, and it's hardly because it was a boneheaded throat, rather it was her decision to put a ball in a spot where he assumed is perceiver would have a chance to make a cat, or at least it would at the very worst following complete. Instead, to leave it was illegally holding Smith, and then Smith just gave up on the play. All this happened. With Joe only having a few seconds to decide where the ball was going to go because of how bad the pass rush had been all night. So even if Joe does assume some of the responsibility for the interception, he's hardly the number one culprit. To me, I don't see any fault on his end.
Yeah, the fact you're holding strong to that throw and subsequent pick not being a bad idea makes me unable to take you seriously.
You all act like I'm a Flacco homer, but if you look back over my entire time here I call Flacco out plenty. I'm not a blind Flacco lover. I'm just stating facts. The decision was hardly boneheaded, nor the int even close to being all Joes fault. Does he take some of the responsibility maybe? In my eyes no, but I can see yours and others points about not needing to attempt a pass. I'm sure in Joe's mind, he thought that it was unfair to keep putting the defense in the position that he and the offense had continually put them in that day of having to maintain the lead with the offense constantly going three and out and hardly putting up any points, and thought that it wasn't going to result in a interception to throw a ball to his number one wide receiver who shouldn't have given up on the play and actually should've had pass interference called on his defender.
Joe makes this kind of pass dozens of times a season, and when it works out we praise him for his ability to throw a receiver a ball in coverage, and then one of the few times it turns into a pick six we call it a bonehead a decision. Sometimes the defense just makes a good (or illegal) play.
you are actually making joe look even worse.
if he stared a receiver down for 2 seconds and still decided to throw ,1 must question his eye sight.
at no point did smith seemed open or about to get open so there was no reason to even consider attempting that throw.
from what i saw he was looking left at first but when he saw nobody open he looked right and tried to check it down to smith assuming he was open.
TBH i dont think he really saw talib had smith coverd and he just rushed the throw in good faith as he was expecting to get hit.
you cant blame him for expecting pressure but you can blame him for having a brain fart that swinged momentum and put us behind for good.
he made the wrong decision and its entirely his fault.
QBs are taught to either throw the ball away or take the sack but never ever force a pass into coverage like that.
Joe was throwing to Steve smith under pressure because he assumed it would be a safe place to throw to, even in coverage of he wasn't completely open, because he's the go to guy and its Steves job to make sure at worst the pass is an incompletion.
Or even better, that the ref will throw a P.I. For all the contact.
Joes strength is that he's ing to throw into coverage. Sometimes more often then he should. But that pass the more I look at it wasn't the worst decision he even made all day. It should have just been an incomplete pass or P.I.
Agreed. It's possible to be pissed at the WRs for flubbing it in the end while acknowledging that Flacco's pick-6 was a boneheaded, momentum-shifting, and ultimately scoreboard-shifting decision.
It should have been an incompletion at worst. Smith gave up on the play, albeit because he was being mugged by talib. Maybe it wasn't the best decision Joe made all day, but saying the int was a boneheaded thrown or all his fault is stupid.
First one was on him 100%. He stared down Smith and only Smith and Talib jumped the route. Basically ran the route with Smith.
Except he didn't just run with smith, he held him the whole way and even as the pass was leaving Joes hand. While Joe was staring him down, for the like two seconds before he threw it, it should have been an incompletion at worst. The interception was not really joes fault as much as Smiths fault and talib getting away with holding
So in your eyes when IS a receiver covered? Lot of Flacco riding here. Nothing wrong in admitting he messed up. Receivers aren't magic, if they're covered they're covered, FLACCO even said the throw was pretty much a prayer meaning even he knew it probably wouldn't be caught. Flacco messed up and he owned up to it.
Just because it wasn't a high chance for completing the pass doesn't mean it's Joes fault that Talib intercepted it uncontested.
Read through many of my posts over the years. I call Noe in his crap when he deserves it. But last night, he nor any quarterback couldn't have done much about the entire offense sucking. Joe threw a pass that many qbs throw to their top receivers, a opportunity for the receiver to make a play. Instead the defender made the play, and did so through illegal contact.
Trestman didn't do great but it's hard to dial up much against their pressure without adequate weapons. I put this loss on Ozzies inability to field a legitimate supporting cast around Joe. For the second time in three years since he HAD a great supporting cast that Joe used to propel us to a super bowl and record setting playoff performance.
Hopefully the tight ends develop or Perriman is as good as we hope he can be. We have a aging received who is at best a number two receiver, and behind him a bunch of number three and lower level receivers, with a whole lot of inexperience at tight end.
Torrey Smith, with all his flaws, could have made a difference in this game. So could have Owen Daniels.
Neither interception was on Flacco. Takin mugged Smith and Smith just let him on the first one. The second one was a great play by Stewart.
Joe wasn't great, but hardly the reason we lost. Play calling and no legitimate receivers plus an 11min drive in the 4th quarter are why we lost.
Plus SS dropping a touchdown.
Wasn't even playing the ball on the Game losing INT.
But we lost because of our Offense. All of them. Every single person on that offense.
Agreed on the game losing INT
I honestly don't know what exactly Joe could have done differently
Joe did everything he could on every play. Ozzie has failed to field a legitimate supporting cast around Joe for the 2nd time in three years since giving Joe his contract after he won the Super Bowl.
If this was Manning from two years ago we'd been down 20 points at least
That was idiotic
I hate to say this, but we are missing Torrey right now, especially without Perriman in.
See, pees, that's what you do on third down

Maybe it was intended for smith in flaccos head (which I doubt) but his eyes were not on smith the whole time. He was looking to the other side for the majority of the play.
