So we're cutting Webb, right guys? Right???
Using an opinion shared two days ago against a news report less than 5 hours old. Good job.
you make a great point. it does seem crazy to form an opinion about the impact a rookie player is going to have based on no information. thanks for clearing that up
.
Reports are saying that the D-line is on fire. Carl Davis and Zadarius batted down passes.
But I thought Carl Davis was a guaranteed no show for this entire season??? you're sending mixed messages.
the logic centers of the brain are not fully developed until the mid 20s. read threads with that in mind over the next couple of days lol.
Howeveeeeerrrr.... Elam has turned the ship around and is tearing it up with 30 tackles, 5 INTs, 4 forced fumbles and a pick six. Not too bad for 8 games
(fingers crossed)
yea it's just annoying that at this point in the season there's still a 4-way tie for the division lead. Need to do something to separate ourselves in the next couple practices. XD
Seems like we can just expect that Carl Davis won't be doing anything this year. Seems like after he was drafted he just vanished.
What? It's July. Man it almost makes you miss when the NFL wasn't covered so extensively. Asinine judgments like this wouldn't happen.
The biggest thing for me in all this is that Deflategate isn't that big of a deal. So why this seemingly extreme overreaction from Brady's camp to try to cover it up? There is a culture of cheating in New England and I wouldn't be surprised if impeding the Deflategate investigation is a red herring for other evidence. Taking this to Federal court presents a huge risk for Brady as now silly little nuisances like "subpoenas" and "oaths" come into play. The amount of ego it takes to try to outflex the NFL could lead to a much worse problem.
Pride cometh before the fall.
Also, another interesting stipulation is that--as a result of Spygate--if the Pats are caught systematically cheating again, Belichick is subject to a ban. And if that were to come to pass, the conversation would immediately turn to vacating wins. So if any whiff comes up in the Federal investigation, the Pats could have a whole new problem on their hands. I must say, watching them slowly hang themselves and tear down their own legacy brick-by-brick is pretty entertaining.
No need to quote and pile on at this point, but just to retrace our steps:
-The point was made that BP is a "Smith clone with more size"
-In other words, BP and Smith are exactly the same, but Perriman is bigger
-This point has now been debunked in every possible way
Now Perriman just has to prove us right.
That's a blatantly made up stat if I've ever seen one lol.He was both. And I'm not judging him off of just a handful of plays.Atleast 40-50 percent of his receptions weren't body catches.
To me the point is not about what Torrey was capable of us versus BP after 4 years in the league. The comparison is about where they were coming into the league. Watching Torrey's senior highlight reel is a clinic in letting the ball get to your body and squandering YAC...and those are the highlights.
When BP catches the ball he plucks it out of the air. Even when it's coming dead down the middle he uses his hands to make the catch. Totally different catching technique.
As Torrey has proven, you can be successful in the league even as a body catcher and you can work on the bad habit with practice, but Perriman's catching technique vs. Torrey's coming into the league is a night and day comparison.
Otherwise the only thing comparable between the two is speed. Yes he will run some of the routes Torrey did, but his route tree should be far more various than Torrey's.
Perriman is basically a Torrey Smith clone with more size.I think he'll be used in all the same ways we used Torrey for the past four years.Alot of curls, post and go routes.
gotta disagree with this assessment. Perriman is bigger, stronger, and faster. He has much better hands/natural catching ability than Torrey and more experience catching the ball in traffic. The only comparison between the two is that they are fast, have/had dreads coming into the league, and were drafted by he Ravens.
Now that he says he is a 100%, he needs to play at a 100% throughout camp to carve out a place for himself on the 53 man roster.
If Camp stays healthy he's on the team. Not much he could do other than getting hurt or getting in trouble off the field to jeopardize his status.
Good on him if it's true. There isn't an honorable bone in the collective Patriots body.
Most offenses use a pass catching tight end and a blocking tight end together and he is no doubt supposed to be our pass catching tight end while Crockett will fill the role of our number 2 blocking tight end who can sometimes catch the ball.
I think you're operating under a misconception. Gilmore is our #1 TE both blocking and receiving in 2015. I see Maxx coming on and making some plays as well but, in my view, it's a mistake to classify Gilmore as a pure blocker. He's a great blocker and he will be called on to do so early and often, but we didn't spend a 3rd round pick on a 6' 6" 275 lb behemoth just to block. I could see Gilmore having a slightly higher ceiling than Heath Miller.
Also, considering Maxx's body is nowhere near strong enough to consistently take on NFL LBs and DEs, it would be a huge strategic liability to make him the #1 this year. Would be way too obvious what we were doing when he was in the game and we'd be hamstrung in our base sets because wouldn't be as effective running the ball.
The problem is he does not appear to have that now which considering now is when he is needed could present a problem come the regular season.
I dunno. He's our #2 TE. If your #2 TE is the difference maker on your team you're already in trouble lol. Personally I think it'll be fine. He's like the opposite of a Stephen Hill. Don't let the measurables fool you, kid can ball.
lol Maxx was never about being very Athletic or built. His game is built on being fundamentally sound and consistent.
Yep, high football IQ and instincts. What people should be commenting on is how amazing he's going to be once he has an NFL body.
Don't forget that Oher was actually an asset as a run blocker in his first two years. Tackle isn't just about pass blocking. Oher was a dynamite run blocker. That's why people liked him. Then his third or fourth year he choked and started sucking at everything.
I think the Oher situation was the product of a snowball effect involving technical and mental issues, combined with inflated expectations. He came in expected to develop into a pro bowl OT. Early on it looked that way. He was heralded as a tenacious run blocker, with an amazing first step that would develop into a dynamic pass blocker with time.
Then teams started to complain about that first step, and what started out as an asset turned into a huge liability in terms of false starts. Then he got the yips and false starts became a huge problem. Then we started shifting him back and forth between positions. Then, partially as a result of the hype from the movie and his draft status, the fan base felt letdown and turned on him. After that it was just a matter of time.
Oher was definitely a disappointing player for us but the fact that we're talking about him as one of the worst Ravens ever is a testament to the inflated expectations. Similarly to Boller, was he disappointing? Absolutely. One of the worst? Far, faaar from it.
The IR due to "injury" that Waller will sustain
To me, phantom injury IR candidates should be guys that have intangibles but lack NFL-ready measurables, generally weight. Waller doesn't fit that mold. His growth area is WR technique and there's nothing he or the Ravens gain by putting him on IR (unless we're serious about turning him into a TE, in which case IR + a year in the weight room makes total sense). Would've been better off not drafting him otherwise.
I think Tray Walker is more likely to end up on IR but don't think either of them ultimately will be. Time will tell.
Did you just say "Sorry"? Is it the end of the world?
jk
Oher was pretty good in his first season. Too bad everything went downhill from there.
We have a few posters whose opinions are very important and critical to the success of the ravens/the general well-being of ravens nation...in their own minds
.
He just doesn't have the foot speed to blow up the seam. But in a WCO he's a golden if he can improve his breaks.
I agree that the plodding style of running he's had historically will not serve him in the mid-deep passing game but reports say that along with his weight he's added speed. We'll see if he's added some quickness as well.
Hopefully we can take advantage of that O-line and get at Manning. Hopefully we can shutdown Kubiak knows what he does do. I fear for our passing game vs that secondary.
Hopefully our O-line has no rust and can hold back Von
I think knowing Kubes will only help us defend the run. The passing game is still going to have Peyton's fingerprints all over it.
And I notice that our team's highlights are on tonight. But I don't understand why very few people understand this about Gilmore. If the dude improves his route running, this guy could be a LEGIT TE in the game.
Totally agree that Gilmore's going to surprise some people. Even last year his impact was underrated. He was wearing linebackers out in ways you just don't see from guys that aren't Gronkowski or Heath Miller in his prime. The man is a mismatch in every sense of the word. He's shown to have catching ability and understands play design, so if he can get craftier in his routes and with body positioning he's going to be a straight up terror.
I want us to so badly start the season with a victory over the Broncos, but I have to admit I don't feel very good about it.
I dunno man I think it's going to be a good game. We match up very well with them when fully healthy.
51 Daryl Smith Days until we smash the Broncos!
Can the title to this thread have season countdown added as well maybe?
Buck Sr!
perriman needs to make sure he can pick his lanes if we want to try this though. being a WR its hard for us to judge his vision with the ball in his hands, athletic linemen and good blocking TE's mean nothing if the WR cant pick the right path to get behind those blockers while still advancing forward.
im personally not a fan of wr screens and i feel like we have been absolutely horrid at running them, and honestly, id prefer to make better use of rb screens because they are much more effective and consistent
Completely agree. Would rather run Rb screens. We don't execute wr screens well AT ALL.
I dunno. I want to put my best weapons in position to make plays and I want to put pressure on defenses by being multiple in the way I use those weapons. Just because we haven't done something well doesn't mean we're incapable of it. Every year's a new team. I agree with the point about vision and sure, if he's not up to it he's not up to it. I just think he will be in a major way.

Ironic that it's Marlon Brown that can't seem to stay on the field.
