I think Judon could really make a difference. He has impressed me so far, but I remind myself this isn't starting quality T's he is facing in games. I want to see him rush against a starting tackle and see how he does. It would be great if we had four guys that can consistently get pressure off the edge. Suggs, Doom, Zadarious Smith, Judon, and Correa if he isn't inside would be a good depth chart.
Sweet! This is on top of the news that Dumervil was also taken off the PUP list. Jeremy Butler's chance of making this roster just got a bit slimmer unless the Ravens go with 7.
Smith Sr., Wallace, Aiken, Perriman, Moore, Campanaro, Butler?
If we go 7 WRs, then we will probably only go with 3 TEs, which we still end up cutting a good player. I think we keep 6 WRs with Butler being odd man out because of Camps return ability. Pitta, Watson, Gilmore, and Williams make the team.
Darren Waller is far from the player I thought he would be. I don't understand how he can even make the 53-man roster with the way he has been playing. I really went from wanting to see this guy in action desperately, to now wanting to see somebody else like Daniel Brown take his spot.
What has he been doing so bad that makes you post that? He had one mistake, which led to a pick, but everyone will drop a pass. I'm proud of the way he rebounded that game and our QBs continuously targeted him. Last game he gets his jaw messed up. Give the guy a chance. He is raw, but talented. It honestly wouldn't surprise me if he ends up on the IR with a surprise injury.....
Hopefully this kid can stay healthy. Ravens nation is excited to see what he can do.
1 hour ago, fusuymada said:I don't know that I agree with that. If the loss of Suggs last year taught us anything, it taught us that he is far more impactful than people give credit for and worldbeater or not, he drives this defense. He doesn't get near enough credit for his ability to set the edge, and because of his rushing ability his coverage is overlooked yet he always gets critical interceptions. With the attention Suggs gets it puts Dumervil up against one on ones which he can dominate against. Once they have to worry about those two additional pieces, Z Smith, Judon and company will get better match ups as offensive lines look to help on the outside. With that extra pressure the secondary can play more aggressive, where now they are covering for 4 and 5 seconds. I am sorry, now that I think about it, I think your assessment is totally inaccurate. I think there will be a significant upgrade in the defense with Suggs and Dumervil in there and hopefully next week will determine that I am correct in my evaluation.
I haven't really seen a QB hold the ball 4 or 5 seconds on our defense this preseason. The ball is getting out quickly, which makes it tough on the pass rush to make a difference.
2 hours ago, Bruce_Almty said:People are putting way too much hope and faith in the play of Suggs and Dumerville. They may be an upgrade over the preseason starters but neither is a worldbeater anymore.
Agree 100%. We had Suggs and Doom in '14 and we still had one of our worst secondaries. Yes we had injuries that year, but nothing has changed in our secondary that makes me think we won't have issues. Weddle and Webb won't give up a lot of deep balls, but we will get picked apart underneath by the looks of it so far. Unless Suggs and Doom get to the QB under 2 secs they won't make that big of a difference. Leadership? Yes. But when the QB can get the ball out so quick it doesn't make a difference who you have rushing the passer. That's why the bengals have been so successful against us. Dalton gets the ball out so quick. Maybe we aren't disguising enough or are playing to soft, but if we let teams dink and dunk our defense will have a long season, a long with the rest of the Ravens.
If he's running he can practice, point blank
No not really. Running doesn't really mean he is ready to come back again. Now, when he starts cutting on his knee and it's holding up fine, then yes he is ready to practice more than likely. Running puts a lot of pressure on the knee, but cutting off of the knee is what will be the deciding factor. That is where the most force will be applied to the ligaments and stress to the entire knee. I know people who can run in a straight line with a torn ACL. Cutting will be the deciding factor, however long that might be.
I didn't expect him to play until late Nov/Dec. You really have to love this guy! Best wishes Steve!!!
If it was going to be that long until he returned, I doubt he would have played this year. He would have retired.
What doctors say mean nothing. How he feels and performs is what matters. Full recovery for Achilles tears takes a lot of time. Doubtful he and Suggs see much game time this year.
Very doubtful. This isn't Suggs first rodeo, and SSS is a warrior. They may not play the entire game the first couple weeks, but they will see plenty of game time. They both will be eased into action as expected, as Suggs is 33 and SSS 36 (maybe 37, not sure). Honestly, I hope they don't need to play the entire game, we need them fresh. But the statement you made saying it's doubtful that they see much game time this year is absurd.
SSS, Mike Wallace and Kamar Aiken are a really good WR corps imo. Very good.
Add our TEs into that, and it's even better. Honestly, if guys stay healthy, which is a BIG IF, we could have one of the most dangerous passing threats in the league. I pray Campanaro stays healthy. I really think he could be very dynamic for us and a great option on 3rd down. It would also be nice just to see Perriman walk into M&T bank with a Ravens uniform on....

I get an update on my phone and initially all I see is "DE Brendone Kaufusi ..." and I'm thinking the follow up is going to be "returns to training camp", but instead, we all know what it said.
The concern around the D line deepens ...
Sorry for the late response, but literally right after I posted what I did, I got an update a little bit later saying he broke his ankle. Tough break.
Anybody know the deal with Bronson Kaufusi? I thought he was going to be a starting type DE no?
I understand we haven't heard much, but we have only had a week of practices really. We haven't even played our first preseason game yet. He may not be ready to start this season, but don't write him off after one week. He could still be a starting DE.
I for one, love Correa's attitude. He's gotta be smart but him crushing a WR is a good thing, that's what he's supposed to do and there's no doubt in my mind that we drafted him for that nasty streak. It will bode well for him during the season. Dennis shouldn't expect kid gloves, he's made the decision to play football but if Correa is hitting after the whistle, he needs to chill out on that and try not to hurt anyone in a Ravens jersey :-)
All in all though, I like this kids moxy!
Pitta and Wallace understand how football is played. You don't smack your teammates like that in training camp though. One time? Okay you're a rookie we understand. He should have gotten the hint after Pitta went at him, considering I have never heard of Pitta doing that before. Then he decides to lay out possibly one of our most important weapons in Mike Wallace? Come on. Guys are trying to get through camp without injuries, and having a rookie linebacker laying out guys in training camp lowers those chances. I'm sure Flacco made that point known to him. I like the aggression he has and the way he is flying around the field, but you protect your own.

As far as Campenero, the Ravens have to put him in plays NOW. they cannot afford to use a roster spot just to have him go down. Same with Pitta. Unfortunately doing that, there is much higher chance of injury during practice...catch 22. Tallifero will be in the mix for Return man. WR spots are few. considering the Ravens may keep 4 TE and 4 RB and a Full back.
I say keep Camp for the PS and then move him in. There is less chance of him getting picked up on waivers than one of our Draft picks.
A team like to Patriots would pick Camp up in a heart beat and knowing our luck, he wouldn't have another injury for the next 5 years if that happened. Camp has to much potential, he would be picked up the day he is released. I think we see if he stays healthy. If he stays healthy, he could be a playmaker for our offense, especially on third down. We take a big risk of losing him if we try to sneak him through waivers, and I really don't think he would make it through.
5 hours ago, Ravensfansince03 said:Why are they still not giving Daniel Brown an opportunity. He's goes out in front of the fans and makes plays. The fans want to see more of him and Harbaugh throws him to the back of the bus. I want to see Dan Brown get more opportunities and not just thrown in when all else fails.
I only remember one play, which was a bad call that neglected his TD at Miami. But let's be realistic, whether he is a TE or WR, he doesn't stand much of a chance. At WR, he will not beat out SSS, Aiken, Wallace, Moore, and Perriman for sure. That leaves probably one more spot and MAYBE another. That last spot, imo, will go to a WR who shows the most in the return game. That narrows it down to Campanaro, Clay, and Reynolds. At TE, we are stacked. Gilmore, Watson, and Williams are locks to make the roster. Pitta is a question mark. I think Pitta will be used as more of a receiver in passing situation and that's about it. I don't think Pitta will be on the field during running downs/situations. He will be in certain packages, etc. Waller and Brown really don't stand a chance. Waller is kind of lucky that he is suspended, because he will be around the first 4 weeks and he is a good special teams player, that is in his favor. Then you have Boyle, who is a good blocker and showed talent when he played. So, who do you think Brown beats out? Because all of the guys listed can make the same plays and then some that he makes.
1 hour ago, Ravensfansince03 said:Give Flacco a guy like consistent guy like Todd Heap again. A LT like Johnathan Ogden. And a stellar defense again, and we are definitely SB contenders back to back.
Harbaugh has ripped this team of its talent and structure.
Harbaugh coaches the players Ozzie signs, Harbs isn't calling the shots on who we sign and what not. It takes a couple years to build a roster, and I think we are going in the right direction. We will be a force shortly, and that could be as soon as this season.
Do away with the joke of game that the Pro-Bowl has become. Make it a skills competition like the old Battle of Superstars/Superteams. Fastest man in the NFL (like when Darrell Green did it), O-line tug of war, QB skills, Obstacle course, soccer shoot out, swimming race (remember Joe Frazier nearly drowning cuz he didn't know how to swim but still wanted to compete...lol), dance contest (go BWill!), golf, dunk contest, etc, etc.
Seriously, the NFL could make it a 3-night event - drive up ratings and what about the revenue, oh, the revenue. Who wouldn't want to watch Joe Flacco vs Brady vs Rodgers vs Cam in a QB competition. Or watch Sammy Watkins vs Patrick Peterson in a 50 yard dash. Yanda & the AFC O-line vs the NFC O-line in a tug of war. Tucker in a trick shot kicking competition. The list is endless...
C'mon NFL, you make $ 9 billion in profits and you can't come up with a program more entertaining than Lip Sync Battle?
Exactly. This would be way more entertaining than the game itself, even if they took it somewhat serious. I honestly don't like watching Ravens players in the game for the simple fact that they could easily get a serious injury that hinders there availability for the following season. Eifert is going through that right now with the Bengals. Luckily he will return, but he could still miss a few games, just because of the pro bowl.
I can relate to what Sapp is saying. I really don't think he cares if Timmy wears his number or not. I just think he is a little miffed that Timmy never called him.
Yeah I understand he wanted Timmy to call, but if Timmy wants to wear 99, he can wear it. He doesn't need Sapp's permission, Sapp didn't play for Baltimore. I don't remember his number getting retired throughout the league or something. Sapp needs to worry about the other issues in his life
it will not matter unless we protect flacco and get that running game going. if we can do that than the passing offense will be deadly
It will not matter unless we protect Flacco and get that running game going. If we can do that than the passing offense will be deadly.
Actually stretching an opponents defense directly impacts the running game. Basically if you don't stretch the defense then they crowd the box and the running game suffers plus they send more pressure knowing they are unlikely to get burnt. If you can stretch the defense they must play accountable football or risk being burnt for long bombs for TD's.
But if you can get the running game open, the defense may bring more guys in the box, which therefore opens up the deep passing game/play action. Both go hand in hand. If you can run the ball, it will open up the pass and more big plays. If you can stretch the field and hit some big plays through the air, then the running game will get going.
Honestly, I just wanna see us have a good balance and keep Flacco upright.
I suppose the senior players for the Ravens have to take note of the passion and leadership Jernigan displayed. In fact, I would like to see Flacco be pissed about last season as well. Believe it or not, players really respond when their de facto leader - QB is passionate about losses and shows it. Whether it is in Flacco's personality or not, he needs to learn to display it so he can inspire his team mates. Believe me I like Flacco's easy going, down to earth and nonchalant personality most days, but on occasion I would like to see him angry and pissed at how the season went last year. That is part of his job especially when you're the face of the franchise and being paid top QB money.
I'm sure Flacco isn't happen about going 5-11. He is busting his tail in rehab at the castle everyday, which he doesn't have to. I'm sure he is providing a lot of insight and help to the young players learning the offense. He is a leader on our offense, and this team. We don't see anything about Flacco except what we see on Sundays, and I'm sure if we did, our opinions would change a lot.
Ozzie didn't make this team significantly better this year- I say we go 6-10 this year. We overpaid an aging safety and an aging TE. The line is questionable and Breshard who? Elam who? Arthur Brown who? Suggs is old and Dums is getting up there... Flacco is Flacco, probably overpaid on him. While he doesn't stink, he's not elite- otherwise, he would've willed a couple of wins last year on his own. To his defense, Oz didn't really give him any receivers to work with last year- injuries are an excuse. Washington also had a bunch of injuries, but they made it to the playoffs last year with a QB that they paid $600k last year, although he's going to get $20M this year. The team down south also got a shut down corner in Norman, and what did Oz do during FA? Exactly... nothing, our secondary will suck again next year- same old defense- definitely not the Ravens of how we knew them in the past when people actually feared us- that team is now the Bronco's defense. We've also fallen back behind the Squeelers and the Bungals- talent wise. Eric and Oz shouldn't be given a lifetime pass- this team doesn' t make the playoffs this year either- sorry folks.
Weddle is one of the best safeties in the league. He is very smart, and will help with our communication issues we have had since Ed left. Webby going to safety could be a great move. He is a great tackler, has ball skills, and has good speed to cover a lot of range. We added 3 pass rushers through the draft/UDFA, if one of those guys, along with Z. Smith can't rush the passer, then we just need to clean house at OLB. I hope Perriman lights it up this year, to prove people like you wrong because the guy had an injury (which happens in football believe it or not). And speaking of Washington, what the heck have they done lately to make me think we should start being like them? Lose in the wild card round? Wow that's impressive. Norman could very well be a system player, and we will find out. We don't need to dish out a ton of money to a guy who had one good year, in a system where he was surrounded by superstars. We have improved a lot from last year.
Our defense will be better. If you think otherwise, tell me how we didn't improve? Our offense probably has the most weapons we have had since 2012, and honestly, we look better on paper than we did that year. If your gonna bash what we do, go be a skins fan.
Did anyone else laugh when they seen Maxx Williams name? I love Pitta but he has a better chance of getting released and I believe he will be.
I just dont see Camp or Talifero making the team, Waller hopefully falls to the PS and isnt claimed by another team.
Right? Why would Maxx even be mentioned here. He actually came on strong toward the end of the season. Heck the kid is only gonna be 22 this year. At worst, he will be our #3 TE.
So...this isn't going to go over well but i've been doing some number analysis on our wide receiver class and I don't see us keeping Camp just for the "china doll" he's going to break theory....and also with all the upside of the young fast receivers Really we are going to keep steve smith?....That really doesn't make sense with the wr signings and draft..... it just doesn't make sense to use a roster spot on a 35+yr old just coming off injury when we don't have room for him......sorry i love the guy but he's gotta go......give him an honest chance to make the team but.........Really.....we got receivers now.....maybe we can hire him as a coach?
Is this a joke posting? Seriously? SSS was on his way to maybe 1200+ receiving yards last year before he got hurt and now we should let him go because he's old? What other proven receivers do we have that can replace him besides Aiken? I really don't mind the negative comments people post, but comments from people who obviously don't watch football do get me riled.
I watch every play.....and Steve Smith coming off his injury and at his age i don't see him making it with us this year.....I love his heart but his catching ability was already dropping off and we have alot of Healthy(not perriman) receivers that are young and fast.......No joke!!
Please explain how his catching ability was dropping off? He was definitely one of the best WRs in the league before tearing his Achilles last season. He also wouldn't come back for another season if there was any chance he doesn't make the team. He will be a significant part of our offense, as he should be. He may see a more limited role now due to the depth we have, which is good for him. He shouldn't have to carry our WRs on his back like last season, but he damn sure can handle it.
Stop the presses. "Future is brighter for Ravens secondary". Well, gee it couldn't have been much worse considering the dumb draft choices like Elam made by Newsome. They made no headway since the retirement of Ray Lewis and the aging of Ed Reed. Now maybe they have filled one of those slots, but the stopgap, Daryl Smith, is done, and no replacement is in sight. I like Mosley but he is no Ray Lewis. They had years to get this fixed and did nothing.
Yeah, I guess it's easy to draft the next Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.....

There is a lot of time left to develop this team. It may ttake us 8 games into the season until we really start playing well, I just hope that we are not 2-6 or 3-5 at the time. We need a good start with the way our schedule finishes. We have the talent to be 11-5 or maybe a little better, but it's also hard to consistently win in this league. Look at how many games we lost by a TD or less last season. This year we may get lucky and win a majority of those games. We may have enough talent to come out on top instead of falling a TD short, that's the difference between 5-11 and 11-5. As long as we are in a playoff position at the end of the season, it really doesn't matter what your record is as long as you get hot at the right time. We lost 3 games in a row in 2012, blew out the Giants, then the rest is history (week 17 we sit the starters). Don't panic yet, I understand your stance though. There are concerns, but we could also be a lot better when the season begins, or as bad as you think. I hope we stay healthy, because I think we are going to compete every single week with whoever we play. Hopefully we just come out on top.
GO RAVENS!!
