This is tough. Hopefully the kid stays strong mentally. This injury bug can get the heck outta Baltimore.
No offense to Steve Smith, but I think Upshaw is the last dude I would wanna fight in a back alley. Guy is a beast and mean as heck!
It was just the 2nd day of camp. And if you aren't hearing his name, that could be a good thing. May not be making flashy plays, but at least it doesn't say he is making mistakes/looking badJeremy butler is my sleeper has anyone heard from aiken ?
I really hope Campanaro can shake the injury bug. So much potential
Football is finally upon us fellow fans!
IMO McPhee is the only "ascending" player there. I get what John means. Those are replacable players. Jimmy Smith, Flacco, Justin Tucker, those are ascending and not really replacable as the others. CJ Mosley, B. Williams, Jernigan, those are gonna be players we try to keep."The Ravens always find a way to keep ‘ascending’ players"
McPhee, Ellerbe, Torrey... just to name a few.
No NFL organization can retain ALL of their ascending young talents. That's how the cap system works.
The guy has so much potential. He could really become a great chain mover. Just has to stay healthy.
Disagree with all of this. Yanda graded out as the best pass blocking guard in 2012 and one of the overall best for the year. He tore his rotator cuff which required surgery (which he played with) and couldn't prepare for the season the way he wanted. Also, look who was playing around Yanda in 2013. He still graded out positive with around 10 something. Not bad. Then he comes back healthy and again proves that he is the best in the league. He is consistent, definition of tough, and isn't showing any decline. Even if he does, he is still a above average starter. If he was showing signs of decline, he wouldn't have bounced back and have the year he had. Injuries happen. This dude had emergency surgery on his leg and still played that Sunday. We need to make Yanda a Raven for life."Yanda will go down as one of the best offensive linemen in Ravens history (behind Jonathan Ogden), he's showing no signs of decline at 30 years old..." Not true. He injured his shoulder in 2012 and was diminished towards the end of the season and had offseason shoulder surgery and his 2013 season was less than stellar. Pro-bowl or not, we know that is a name game not a talent game and he certainly was far less than a pro bowl that year. I love Yanda but lets not kid ourselves. He is older, has had injury 0oncerns but to say he shows no sign of decline simply disregards the 2013 season. Yanda is well loved and I know this isn't a popular position but KO is a better investment and wont be near as expensive.
Eisenburg is right though. Webb knows how to take care of himself. You think he isn't taking care of himself because he has tore his ACL twice? Thats a freak accident. It can happen to anyone who takes great care of their body. What he means is that he won't put himself in position to get hurt, such as taking big shots and trying to do to much. If it helps us win, I'm all for it.Eisenberg needs to be tested for Performance reducing drugs, this article is nonsense. "Webb, 29, is a veteran, smart enough to take care of himself." then why has he been hurt three different times. He is arguably our second best player in the secondary and the most expirienced. No way Jose.
I really doubt it. We will keep at least one. Ozzie won't let them both walk. I see us keeping Yanda and losing Osemele. It will suck because he is young, but Yanda is the best guard in the league and playing great football. Is it possible we could lose both Yanda and Osemele? It is a thought to consider. We would have to blow the bank on either to get them to sign. We can throw a franchise tag on one, probably Osemele since he is younger, but depending on how well they play, Uerschel and Robert Myers could be our starting guards next year. I know it is a thought that is hard to bear, but I definitely think it could be a possibility and a way to save cap space next year.
Asking questions like this will make the kid lose confidence. Its June. He won't catch everything. Remember week 1 against the Bengals, Steve Smith Sr dropped about 3 balls. He catches the ball just fine.
I hate hearing Sizzle talk like this, but nobody can beat father time. Just hope he has a good couple years left.
I wouldn't bet on it. The only jerseys I would buy would be Flacco, Steve Smith SR. (Just because he will retire a Raven even if he only has a year or two left), Mosley, Suggs, Dumervil, and thats about it lol. I would get Perriman but I want him to prove his worth firstDo you guys see Aiken being with our team for awhile? Im considering getting his jersey but dont wanna get his jersey and have him leave after this year like my Ray rice or Torrey Smith jerseys lol
I really don't know why they would release Juice. We will still need a FB and he played very well last year. He is also dynamic and I think we need to get him involved more. He needs to hold onto the ball a little better though. But he isn't going anywhere. I also highly doubt we keep 7 WRs. I say 6 is the limit, and if Pitta is healthy and comes back, he may have more of a WR role instead of TE. We have blockers so all Pitta has to do is focus on catching passes. That may force us to only keep 5 WRs with 4 TEs.I love Juice, but not sure whether he won't be collateral damage of keeping too much players elsewhere, such as having 4 TEs and 6-7 WRs as well as 3 RBs if both Allen and Taliaferro are on the active roster, come beginning of season.
I knew the corner back market was trash. We obviously saw that last season. But the way you reacted to the signing seemed like you were bashing it. Then a couple of us pointed out to you that this is nothing more than a depth signing. Plain and simple. Don't come off like you expect every signing to be a great player, then we wouldn't argue. I wasn't arguing, just pointing out this is not a player who will probably play a lot barring injuries. This guy is a decent signing in case of injury. He has experience, can play somewhat, and is better than someone like Dominique Franks.I dont know why everybody keeps saying this like non starters never get on the field.
what is your point?
again, we burned through about 90 cornerbacks last season.
and you dont need a hundred reps to blow a major play, one will do.
also, i dont know why everybody is coming at me like i said he should or shouldnt be signed anyway.
i offered a quick evaluation of the cat. i dont get why you peple think EVERYTHING needs to be argued.
did i say i expect us to pick up pro bowler?
the way i remember things, ive been trying to tell all of you for a couple years running that the corner market was trash.
of course now all of a sudden everybody believes me, lol.
we already covered that...
Rashaan Melvin was on tampa bay's practice squad early in the 2014 and finished the season starting against the patriots in the playoffs.
again...depth is not a ban from the field of play.
So you expect us to pick up someone who is a pro bowl player now? Injuries happen, and corners are in high demand. Sorry, but we aren't going to feild a team full of players like Jimmy Smith. If injuries happen really at any position, it will most likely decline in production. The dude is clearly picked up for depth, at least he has experience and can play somewhat. Hopefully we stay healthy, but I think this guy is at least serviceable if we need him.I feel like we went what...
Ross, Jackson, Webb the first half, Jimmy the second half, Cason, Chykie Brown, Danny Gorrer...that's six deep already last season and im sure i didnt cover everybody.
everyday i pray for brevity to prevail on these boards and everyday i am disappointed.
They were 13th in passing D, which is closer to average than anything and mostly because of the their front. He only started 5 games.
and before that he played for Indy and Denver...who both also had less than impressive defenses. what else?
He will be the 4th corner on the depth chart at best, which he may not even win that job either. Just another body for the CB group. Its not like he is a sure fire guy who will see a lot of playing time. No need to get bent out of shapeok so then he'll get dusted by Bryant, Jones, Wheaton, Hawkins, or Sanu.
well certianly makes me feel better
You don't know that he wasn't in top shape. Some guys just have bad luck. He could come back and never get hurt again.....but the chances don't look good lol. I honestly feel bad for the guy, he showed some promise. Just can't shake the injury bug. Hard to keep him around if you can't rely on him.Camp is injured AGAIN. This time it is a quad. The beating that returners take there is no way Camp will survive doing that so we already have cut down the possible returners. Some guys just cant seem to get into their heads they need to be working in the offseason so they don't come up lame in the first real practice. I mean, it is a dead giveaway who has been working on their physical shape. Having been a lowly 7th round pick and having already had issues with injuries, if it had been me, I would have made sure that I was in peak condition ready to get a spot on the team. This is like getting injured doing your conditioning test. Anyway, I was tickled we have 8 or 9 NFL quality Wide Receivers on the roster with only 6 spots because now we are down to 7 or 8. He will be back but I think he probably hurt himself more in the eyes of the coaches than he actually did physical damage. Yes injury is part of the game, but if your game is always being injured, then you wont make it here.
I wouldn't sleep on Kamar Aiken. I could see him being our number 2 if Perriman isn't ready. I think he will definitely see a lot of snaps no matter what. He came on strong at the end of the year last season. I think Perriman will be the number 2, but if he struggles a little I think it will be Steve Smith then the rest will be by committee. Brown, Aiken, and Camp all showed promise last year. Gonna come down to who shows they deserve more in the next 3 months
Fans from other teams know we don't suck. Jealousy at it finest. People are tired of watching our organization be successful while their team sucks. Other successful organizations usually admit that we are successful amd hate playing us.Nice to see fans of another team admit that we don't suck.
It does free cap space, but we still eat the dead money. The reason we traded him instead of cut him was to get something back in return instead of just cutting him and getting nothing.@Tru11 I'm confused if trading doesn't free cap why we trade Haloti then. What about releasing him?
How will Juice be in trouble? He is the only FB on the roster and played very well last year. I think we need to get him more involved in the passing game. If Pitta returns healthy, the WRs will be in trouble as I think we will use Pitta more as a receiver than a TE. If Pitta is healthy and decides to play, I think we keep 5 WRs and 4 TEs. It will be interesting to watch, just a shame we can't keep them all. Im sayimg SSS, Perriman, Brown, Aiken, and Campanaro are who make it. If we keep a sixth receiver, Butler, Waller, and Carter will battle it out.If Pitta returns healthy then "Juice" could be in trouble. They are keeping Williams, Gilmore and Boyle as none would clear waivers. If Carter outplays Campanaro as a returner then Camp's spot could be on the practice squad.NO WAY Waller clears waivers and goes to the practice squad. They will keep Smith, Perriman, Brown, Aiken, Waller and Butler.Yanda will cost them but it will cost a lot more to lose him. They have to pay Yanda and Osemele too. These guys are critical to the entire team's success as we found out in 2013. They need 7 good offensive lineman. Urshel and Hurst proved they are good backups and will be good starters in another couple years....just not now.If they feel Arthur Brown is ready then this will be Daryl Smith's last year as a Raven. If not then he may end up getting cut. He should be up to speed by now. These are all good problems to have and show the high quality depth the ravens have at every position.
I don't think so. I love Ngata, hate to see him go, but we actually have guys in place that we KNOW can play in his place. We didn't have that when Corey Graham left. Brandon Williams has already established himself as one of the best nose tackles in the game. If him and Jernigan stay healthy, they could be the best duo in the league. Jernigan can actually rush the passer a little bit, which is big. We just need these guys to stay healthy, and if they do we will be fine. Not to mention we have Canty, Davis, KLM, Guy, etc. We got some major beef up front. The offense will be very good but the defense with a weak secondary and the lose of great run stopper spells trouble. Losing Ngata will be like the lose of Corey Graham last season.
Kinda weird that when he was released, it felt like he was already in a Ravens uniform. Ozzie does a great job locking up guys that make a ton of sense.
