  1. I'm not sure, but I still don't trust it - he had Megatron and Burleson, before that it was Holt and Bruce, before that it was Moss and Burleson. He's always had top end receivers in his offenses whenever they had any success at all, and that really worries me. During the end of his time in St. Louis his offenses were in the bottom third of the league.
  2. Agreed - even in St. Louis, his offenses succeeded when he had two HOF receivers to use. After they left, the Rams offense became very bad very fast.
  3. Don't they still have to pay the coach at least some of the remaining salary on his contract if he gets fired? You'd think if for no other reason than not to be paying half a dozen guys who don't work for them anymore, they'd try and stick with a coach for more than 2 seasons at a time.
  4. I expect it to be before the Superbowl certainly - a lot of the guys who are out of jobs are going to start finding jobs with the non-playoff teams, so unless there's a position coach on either the Seahawks or the Broncos the front office is gunning for hard, everyone who they would want would be available now. There's no need to wait and let these guys get snapped up by other teams.
  5. I would somewhat disagree because just about every OC, DC, or position coach I'm sure dreams eventually about becoming a head coach. However, I do agree I think a lot of coaches would be interested in taking the job, because doing a good job on a successful team is how you springboard yourself into HC consideration. Not to mention THIS job specifically - we had one of the worst offenses in the league in nearly every category last year. Imagine if the guy who comes in turns it completely around in a year or two - in a league that's quarterback driven and where every owner now seems to want to higher offensive gurus and "quarterback whisperers", I think getting the job here and doing well would be a huge career booster to anyone.
  6. I don't know why - he's a good receiver. He'd be a good pickup in the second round depending on who is off the board at that point.
  7. I like Jordan Matthews a lot, and another guy, maybe more under the radar, is Jared Abbrederis out of Wisconsin. I don't think we go receiver with the first pick, and I think either of these two would fit in really nicely here and one of them should be there with our second round pick.
  8. Well then your only data is no data at all. If you don't use the only time he's ever been an OC, then nobody knows how good Hostler would be as OC. And what he's done as a position coach doesn't matter - plenty of guys did well early on only to struggle when they got promoted to a bigger job. Not saying Hostler will, but the fact is he is a completely unknown quantity, something the front office tried this past year with Caldwell. IDK if it's worth the risk to go that route now particularly if guys like Kubiak and Shannahan, who have had success as offensive playcallers in this league, are interested in the job.
  9. Depends on the price - he's the type of receiver I think we need, but he is injured a lot - he's never played a full 16 games in the 5 years since he's been drafted. There's a lot of risk, and he might get overpaid in the market like a lot of receivers did last year.
  10. The thing about Shanahan in Washington is you have to look at what he did in each season differently, IMO - 2012 he had a healthy RGIII, 2013 he didn't. It's somewhat unfair to pin the Redskins 2013 offense on Kyle, just like it's unfair to pin all of this year's debacle on Jim Caldwell here in Baltimore - both were dealing with major injuries/losses to key players, and that affected what they were able to put on the field. I think Shanahan's 2 years in Houston plus the first year in Washington is more indicative of the kinds of stuff he can bring rather than this year.
  11. He also had the Redskins offense 5th in yards and 4th in points in 2012, RGIIIs rookie season. They also tied with New Orleans for most yards per play in 2012.
  12. Also didn't help that RGIII missed 3 games and wasn't himself even when he was playing.
  13. Oh - well I'm assuming if he comes here, he likes the offensive situation better. The big thing is the word around the Browns says the front office likes Manziel, who is absolutely the worst quarterback for the type of offense Norv wants to run - at least Weeden has the skill set; also that Norv knows this interest and may not be too happy with it. He wants a vertical passing game, and that's exactly what Manziel won't bring.
  14. The thing about Norv is that he at least runs his offensive system competently. It would be like Cam 2.0, or a better version of Cam's offense. I wouldn't want it, because I don't particularly care for Air Coryell, but if that's the kind of offense this organization wants, Norv's the best at it. However the same problems will still be there e.g. if you can't run the ball, you're done. There is also a seriously predictable nature to his play calling, or at least that's what a bunch of Charger fans will tell you from his time there. But he does seem to get quite a bit out of his quarterbacks.
  15. I think they just see "Shannahan" and assume we're going to look like the 2013 Redskins, never mind the quarterbacks are completely different or that he did very well when RGIII was a rookie, but healthy.
  16. Shannahan did well in 2012 when RGIII was healthy. As long as it's someone who's going to emphasize shorter and more diverse route trees, I'm on board.
  17. Don't know if anyone posted this yet, but Aaron Wilson tweeted that Rich Gannon believes a lot of people would be interested in the Baltimore OC job. Hopefully competition leads to a very good one coming here.
  18. Well I think we're both talking about the improvement of Joe as a QB, and Kubiak has a track record - it's not his fault at all that Shaub seems to consistently throw redzone INTs when the game's on the line. And as a QB coach/OC he lead Steve Young to what's considered the greatest QB performance in Superbowl history and John Elway, noted for his failures in clutch Superbowl situations in the 80s, to a great performance against Atlanta in his last Superbowl.
  19. He sent Matt Shaub to the pro-bowl twice and had him lead the league in passing yards one year, so I'd say it worked VERY well. Shaub is extremely limited physically, but aside from this year he played very well under Kubiak.
  20. True, it's hard to say, but there are a few things to keep in mind - while Pags had no DC experience, Pees was New England's DC for 4 years and had a pretty good defense there (not sure what's going on with this one), and two - Harbs had his guy in place in Cam Cameron, and if what we are led to believe is true, Harbs basically saved Cam's job on 2-3 occasions before Steve finally convinced him a change was needed. So what I'm thinking/hoping is that guys like Steve and Eric have already discussed who would be potential OC replacements and looking outside - and remember Caldwell was originally someone from the outside. The longer this goes on, the more I'm inclined to think the front office is looking around waiting to see who they have the opportunity to interview.
  21. As far as experience goes, I think it's 50/50 - sometimes it helps, sometimes it's not needed. Caldwell had no experience and called a great 2012-2013 postseason. Pags had no DC experience and had a great run in 2011 as our DC.
  22. McAdoo was previously the tight ends coach for the Packers before becoming OC, and I definitely think that's an area that should have some young talent added to it.
  23. Either Kubiak or Turner would be good fits, IMO.
  24. It needs to be somebody from outside of this staff.
  25. Tough over the middle the guy with reliable hands - the one thing our receivers tend to do is drop a few easy ones, and that's costly. Q's and Pitta's specialties are catching the tough passes and moving the chains, and being open when Flacco needs them the most. We missed that this entire season. I'm all for taking one of the tight ends in round 1 and then coming out with a guy like Jordan Matthews (my favorite receiver in this draft) in round 2.
