You know I've been a Joe basher almost all season because he's deserved it. While he's still not doing everything well, he IS making progress. His pocket awareness is getting better, he doesn't have the happy feet as much and he's even thrown it out of bounds a few times when nothing was there, rather than take the sack. I believe his leg is fine, it was his psyche that was holding him back. I tape the games so I can go back and watch it again to pick out certain players and what I'm seeing is, it's not just one thing. Each play offers a new guffaw from someone. On offense, Our receivers rarely get separation. There's times when someone does get a little room but Joe won't see them because he doesn't go through his progressions on every play. Sometimes, you can see where he'll lock on to a receiver and try to force it in there, regardless of coverage. If it were me and I was going to force the ball into a tight window, I'd pick the window that only has one or two bad guys defending, not 3 or 4. Our Wr's also don't understand the blitz and helping Joe out by recognizing he's being pressured out of the pocket. Maybe it's just my sand lot days talking but if you want the ball, you have to show your QB he has an outlet in those situations. On running plays, many of our O line will block for about 5 feet then give up. Our receivers jog on their routes giving away the run or if they figure they aren't getting the ball anyway and Pitta blatantly won't block with any heart at all. You can tell he thinks he's too good for being a blocker. Also, I HATE the "Dive into your legs" type of chop blocking. All that does most times is put you with your face in the ground out of the play with the defender still able make a play. I think it's a lazy type of block and makes you look stupid while you're laying on the ground and the guy you were supposed to be blocking is still standing but again, maybe that's just me. On defense, our corners consistently get their hips turned. They bite on almost every juke and are constantly out of position to make a play on the ball. It looks like they think as long as they're "close" to their guy, they're defending OK. Shareese and Young have physical ability but just aren't where they should be most times. With all this, if I had to come up with one thing we needed to do better that would sum it all up, in my opinion, I'd say better coaching would cover most all of these issues.
