  1. With the amount of hate Hostler and Harbaugh getting on here I think it might be a good idea.

I don't want him, and maybe I'm just a hipster but I don't think he'll be as bad as everyone is saying he'll be. He's being wrongly criticized IMO.... So is Harbaugh for doing absolutely nothing yet lol

I have taken the same approach at this point too. While he is not my top option, he obviously has some talent and rapport with both the coaches and players. I kinda want him to get the job and hopefully he carries a chip on his shoulder as I am sure he and the rest of our offense will have many doubters during the preseason and likely throughout next year.

  2. Just because I am bored and no news has broke for a while I thought I would throw another random name into the works with no reasoning or source whatsoever.

Mike Groh, WR Coach, Chicago Bears--Obviously Jeffery exploded this year, and the whole offense looked to click a little better in Chicago with Trestman and Kromer. He has had some good tutoring over the past year there and being the son of Al Groh I am sure he has had a ton over his life. Was rumoured as a candidate for the Alabama OC spot so he has some buzz. Fun fact he attended Ravens training camp in 1996 as a FA QB before moving on to coaching

  3. Someone with strong hands and is a hands catcher!

I do not really care about size-- it could be someone built like Boldin/Dez/Decker/Crabtree (strong, big, physical), Marshall/Jeffery (tall, athletic), Derrick Mason/Kendall Wright (smaller, quick), or Reqqie Wayne/Jordy Nelson (well rounded).

As long as they catch the ball well, come back to the ball and attack it, and is someone Joe can trust in all situations. They will all get open in their own ways. I think we have the potential to be balanced enough with Pitta, Torrey and Marlon, thus any style I think will find a spot. If there is anything I do prefer is if they have experience on the outside as I love both Marlon and Pitta inside.

  4. I brought up some college OC's that may be options a while back in this thread but I want to add one more.

Doug Nussmeier | OC | Alabama - He had a solid career as a QB in college, and was the Washington OC/QB coach when Locker was there. He really has upped the level of Alabama's offense the last two years and has helped McCarron plays his best. I think he can be credited to opening up the gameplan of Bamas offenses each week beyond ground and pound. He was being mentioned as a possible suitor for the HC job in Washington before Peterson was hired. With Ozzies connection to Bama this actually may be a possibility if Caldwell leaves. A rather risky one, but I am sure if there is any GM in the league who will be able to decide if he is qualified and ready to make the jump it would be Ozzie.

On the same topic both OC's tonight with Oklahoma vs Alabama are some guys to watch from college. If Caldwell does get a job I am not sure if I would rather NFL experience with guys like Kubiak, Norv, Chud and so on, or 'up and comers' like Nussmeier, Josh Huepel, or even a guy like Saints QB coach and legendary son Joe Lombardi

  5. Jordan Matthews showed he has some speed to go with his size on that TD (although that was a great block). He might end up a top 10 pick before all is said and done with this draft if he keeps up what he has been doing so far. But hopefully he drops to us because we could really use a guy like that to take the double team.

Its always a possibility he has great hands and I was surprised by how quick he has looked and the long speed he possesses. Very well rounded player and looks to be the player that makes Vandy click so far

  6. Anyone else watching Vandy vs. Ole Miss--Jordan Matthews is looking like a beast at WR

Also only saw a half of the South Carolina vs. North Carolina game but Clowney needs to get in gameshape he was just winded all second half and James Hurst handled him pretty well because of it

  7. Belicheck, Payton and harbaugh are about as different style coaching as you can get, strange you would list those 3 as your targets.

HC wise I was not as focused on scheme so much but just who I think can pull teams together in their own ways--First I had to go with HC who have won it all or atleast very close as I think it means alot..I do prefer the no question coaches like Payton and Bilichek but I had to add Harbaugh as I feel he gives players confidence and is a great motivator. Harbaugh was likely a homer pick in all of it and Coughlin probably rounds out the idea of what I like in a HC more and wanted I wanted for my team--but for some reason there is something about him that bugs me, great coach though. Other guys I thought of were the other Harbaugh, Pete Carroll and Tomlin, love all but to 'raw raw' motivators for my team. The other guys who I actually like for what I wanted were Jeff Fischer and Gary Kubiak...it may seem all over the place but I guess what I wanted in a HC for my team was a guy who has an unquestioned bar and exudes that expectation that you must exceed it and its not my job to do that but yours, in a more tamed way than a Rex Ryan type...My dream guy is the Tony Dungy type, not many of those out there but I thought these guys had similar traits

...might just make sense in my own head..

  8. As much as I use to be all for the coaches draft I too am excited to just see it wrap up...alot of fun though and I would do it again

As for the coaches I wanted (my top 3, sticking to NFL and current positions, in order):

HC: Bill Bilichek, Sean Payton, John Harbaugh

OC: Kyle Shanahan, Rick Dennison, Jim Caldwell

DC: Jack Del Rio, Mike Zimmer, Matt Patricia

  9. I was planning on going someone else at TE with this pick but I could not get past all the great reports out of San Fran with him and his ability in all aspects of the game could be all-pro levels...I think I have to make the promise of no more rookies now though--luckily he is my first on offense

also love the Javier Arenas pick--If I had not got Kyle Wilson I was going to take him a while back

  10. Pick is in.

JD Walton made huge improvements when playing for a QB who actually knew how to make the right calls on the line of scrimmage and I am confident he will keep up his good performances with Brees calling blocking schemes. Now I know he broke his ankle and isn't ready to start the season, but he still is a young player and can come back from such an injury.

If did not have that injury I would have taken him a while back. Great young player

  11. I went with Shea McClellin as a big upside player here. He was actually fairly productive as a situational pass-rusher last year for the Bears and that is the role I hope to put him in primarily on my team. He also allows me a ton of versatility up front with both 3-4 and 4-3 looks in addition injury insurance if anything happens to LB corps.

    As a 3-4 I can go:

                                            Brockers - Cofield - Wilkerson

                          McClellin                                                       Cole

                                                Bishop           Beason

    Nickel:

                               McClellin - Brockers - Wilkerson - Cole

                                    Ogletree                Beason

    Or my base 4-3 under:

                               Wilkerson (5T) - Cofield (1T) - Brockers (3T) - Cole (Leo)

Bishop (SAM)                  Beason (MIKE)                Ogletree (WILL)

Really like the though process here--likely because I have attempted to do the exact same thing. Well done in finishing it off, I am still needing to add a couple key pieces
