I don't see any free agent visiting the Ravens right now. Harvin is visiting the Bills, Andre Johnson the Colts, etc, etc. Who in the world is visiting us??
When September rolls along, rest assured we'll have a roster that rocks. We are the Baltimore Ravens. Let's never forget that. The great teams are quiet this time of the year, with decisive action only if warranted. Trust in our front office. When have they ever let us down??
Wilfork's option wasn't picked up by NE. I know he is 33 yrs old, but would be a great stop gap for us should Ngata leave. What do you guys think?
Brain Hartline has just been released by Miami. He would make a tempting cheap replacement for Torrey if we let him walk.
On the contrary he would be a good replacement for Jacoby as our #3 WR, but not necessarily as a return man. He is more of a sure handed route runner of short and intermediate routes no?
Cut? No loss of compensatory picks, fills a need before the draft? Sign me up, better yet Ozzie, sign him up. Hopefully he's not light another raider safety we picked up. I'm not saying his name but he's on frank walker level with me
You don't mean Huffity Puff Puff do you??
I think the Ravens will do their due diligence in this situation. They said it would be hard to, but when you're talking about getting the best received in the draft, they'd have to consider it. Apparently DGB has been a model citizen at Oklahoma and has been whipped straight by his brother who stayed with him for the entire year. He himself acknowledged another year in college to prove he's matured probably would have helped, but he wants to move on from everything that happened in college and show he's changed. I'd take him
It isn't as much about due diligence as to how much these guys have changed, but more about the perception of it after making such a bold statement. If they had chosen to be quiet about it in the presser, no problem with picking him. But, after the presser it isn't likely going to happen.
No way the Ravens will even think about drafting DGB after listening to the presser
Agreed. Similarly there is also no chance that Brandon Marshall will be sought after given his domestic abuse past!
Ian Rappaport just reported on NFL network that Julius Thomas may be available since the Broncos are going to allow him to test the market. What do you guys think? Does he fit our system? I have heard he is a reluctant pass protector. But, otherwise a huge target that can catch the ball.
Evidently the Broncos made him a huge offer that he refused.
Well, Forsett did block guys with a lot more weight than him. Lol
Blocking is one thing because all Forsett needed to do was just create enough pause in the rusher to allow Flacco time to move or throw. But, now we are asking Art Brown to bull doze through an offensive line to get at the QB.
This topic is tantamount to saying we get Will Hill or Matt Elam to play OLB. Brown is the smallest LBer we have on our team and you expect him to be an OLB on a 3-4 D where he consistently has to go up against tackels that outweigh him by a 100 lbs??
Doesn't hurt that you just dug it up.
I know right? Here we go again! I am now a serial grave digger!
Why is this still an open topic?? Just change the heading to "Matt Elam is a bust"! And close it moderators, please.
I am just so livid with this team and the ways they cheat their way into big games. I especially hate it more when I feel like the same deflate gate tactic may have been used against us as well. There is simply no logic to them not using it against us, ecept we were the better team than the Colts.
There is simply no precedence for a team that cheats like this in various different ways and gets away with it. It starts up top with Kraft okay with Belichik's devious tactics to gain every unfair advantage they can and Brady in step with his HC all the way. It is almost like these two spend hours locked up to figure out ways to screw other teams any way they can, except by fair means.
I don't know how far this extends and how deeply entrenched these guys are in schemes like this, but now I can't simply trust any of their victories as being untainted. The NFL hasn't still interviewed Brady on the scandal - how irresponsible is that?? With the SB looming, don't they want to put this matter to bed?
People around the league keep saying there needs to be a rematch with the Colts. I say why just the Colts? The fair thing to do would be to let the Colts and Ravens play the AFCC game by disqualifying the Patriots from this year's tournament. That would be the fairest outcome.
Obviously, we know that is never going to happen - so how does the league deal with such behavior? I say they need to penalize them so severely, that no other team should ever attempt cheating and continue to uphold the integrity of the game. The penalty should be far more severe than what was meted out to the Saints a couple of years ago surely. In fact, I say Goodell must vacate their victories and past SB victories as well much like was done with Penn State by the NCAA!
Man, I still hate the Steelers with a passion unknown to mankind, but I respect them. With this team, I just despise them as I think they are beneath contempt.
why did you put "..." on the end as if i didn't post before Spags was hired elsewhere...
My bad. I didn't realize the date of your post preceded Spagnuolo's departure to the Giants.
Something I've been looking at as I've been getting ready for the offseason is the prospect of signing a vet CB for depth, not a guy that should be starting but quality depth at the vet minimum would be nice, if this year has taught us anything it's that we should have at least some depth at that position with our starters being Jimmy and Webb, two guys that have had problems with injuries. I don't want to be caught again next year without depth. So a couple vets out there in no particular order: Charles Tillman, Terrance Newman, Rashean Mathis, Hold on to Aaron Ross (although he's had two serious injuries two years in a row). Also a vet DT would be nice, especially if we indeed let Cody walk.
I've never been one for signing young high profile FAs...I'd rather take cheap vets or low profile guys, i think thats what our FO does as well. Seems like we get good value out of doing that and we don't have to tie up a bunch of money for high profile guys.
Aaron Ross came here because of Spagnuolo. He will possibly follow him as he's a free agent...
After listening to their conference call this morning, I am convinced that Trestman will be absolutely ideal in Baltimore. He is low key, understands offense in a way that many others don't and is extremely adaptable to players' strengths. What more can we ask for? I expect our offense led by the inimitable January Joe to be top 5 if not higher this year both in points scored as well as yards gained.
I only hope our D, especially our secondary can keep up. I don't blame Pees for our secondary woes, but for some reason, we were unable to hold off teams even when leading by a couple of TDs. In fact it happened twice in NE. Somebody has to answer for that somehow... hopefully next year our D keeps improving.

I can't blame him if he wants to be a HC, but consistency would be nice.
If you want to be a head coach, become a Raven... it also works for secondary players if you want to suffer a season ending knee injury.
Very good point indeed! lol
The great thing going for us is that Harbs is a great coach to work with. He is able to set aside personal egos and deal with ex-HC type candidates very well it seems like. Just look at what happened to the last 3 that were here - one is a HC in Detroit, the other DC in NY and the 3rd just became HC in Denver!
The Ravens have become the go to spot for ex-HC to regain some mojo and hit the market again with great success! That is really a testament to John Harbaugh's treatment of his coaching staff!
He is not a total bust quite yet, but getting there rapidly!
I really want DT Cory Redding, S Rahim Moore, TE Virgil Green are probably my top guys at the moment. Still evaluating the CB market.
While I like Redding as a DT also, don't forget we have ample depth at that position already in KLM, Tyson, Jernigan, Williams and Urban. More than likely Ngata will be back as well. You never know about Canty. He may decide to stay back another year depending on how we do this year...
So fire him so we can move back to talking about football players!
The fascinating thing about the English language is you can go from a question to a statement without adding any additional words but by simply repositioning them!
"Is Matt Elam a bust"?
to
"Matt Elam is a bust"!
Give him time to be all that you think he is folks. It's just one game against Bortles. Please ( with the 'uh' added but I hate misspelling)!
Thank you for being a CB and playing for the Ravens this year Melvin - John Harbaugh and Steve Spagnuolo.

I get that, but the silence is deafening! I just want Andre Johnson in for a visit before he signs with the Colts is all.
