I see Arthur Brown as a prime candidate to send to SF in a trade.
I think #20 along with #52 are unavailable to future players.
Will they make 92 avaiable to D-linemen??
@RavensInsider: Kendrick Lewis three-year Ravens deal, $5.4 million, $1.4M bonus, salaries $800,000, $1.4 million, $1.8 million
there is Lewis's deal per Aaron Wilson
That is truly an awesome price for what we're getting supposedly!!
I thought that Canty was said to be $2.5M
Yeah thanks! I just saw that too. I wonder why then Lewis' numbers aren't released yet?
Foxworth and Huff come to mind.
Are the numbers out on the deal yet?
Foxworth really wasn't that bad his first year or so. But, Huff was terrible. No, I don't think they are about to reveal numbers quite yet, because of competitive advantage situations. They want free agents and their agents to believe they have adequate cap space to sign them if need be. The didn't even release numbers on Canty yet.
ICYMI, Peter King wrote an article on How to Win Free Agency and cited the Ravens and Ozzie Newsome as how it's done. You can read the article here
Nice article indeed. Makes you proud to be a Raven's fan!
Even if we couldn't use the money to sign anyone significant this year I think it will definitely assuage Joe's cap hit next year and give us more flexibility.
I think a trade is a better option than cutting him anyway, If Webb get's banged up again this year his trade value is gone. If we trade him now there is still that glimmer of hope he'll stay healthy for another team and they will take on his contract and compensate us a pick or two in the process. Correct me if I'm wrong but a trade would clear the most cap and we could spend it right away (like we did with Ngata). Honestly Ngata was more deserving of getting paid than Webb so if we dealt Ngata why should we pay Webb? The only argument really is lack of depth at cb compared to dt.
And what exactly are we doing to bolster our depth at DT? So far, we have let good quality DTs go to other teams and we are sitting here with no additions.
Chargers announce their deal with wide receiver Stevie Johnson
I heard and so another one gone. Hmm... don't know front office thought process right now.
The thing that is somewhat frustrating about the Ravens inaction in free agency, especially given the number of high quality departures is this. We cannot look at our team in isolation because we play in a competitive sport. We have to be able to look at our team in comparison to the other teams in the AFC.
Most teams in the AFC are getting better with quality players and depth by spending on good free agents. The Chargers, Texans, Bills, Dolphins, and the Colts come to mind immediately. The Bengals, Browns and even the Steelers are making deals with impact players. This is why our inactivity worries me somewhat. Added to that despite the number of picks we may have in this draft, none are high picks because we pick near the end of each round.
Anybody else have any thoughts?
As bad as Matt Elam was, he is cheap to retain and understands our defense (hopefully) by now, to be of some use this year. So, talking about him with much negativity isn't going to help. Instead, let's all hope he comes into his own this year and has an epiphany regarding his tackling and coverage skills and becomes productive.
I don't think the Ravens would sign this guy to a 3 yr deal if they didn't believe he helps our secondary immediately, especially considering he was a free agent and wasn't released. His signing actually cancels out one of our free agent losses with regard to compensatory picks.
Fair question to ask. I don't know for sure obviously but I don't think Crab was a locker room cancer or anything like that.. just seemed like a mutual split. Crab wanted a change of scenery and the 49ers wanted someone who could take the top off the defense (what they envisioned with Lloyd and Stevie Johnson). They knew they had Torrey on board very early and opted to let Crabtree walk because he didn't really have a defined role with Torrey and Boldin there. They felt they didn't need Torrey, Boldin, AND Crabtree.. especially because he wouldn't come back cheap.
So, that alone would make it difficult for the Ravens to consider him no? Or do you think with the passage of time and no takers, he may realize he isn't going to get paid and may sign a 'prove it' one year deal? Given his Achilles injury perhaps if not anything else?
Healthy Crabtree > Torrey
Not saying that out of bitterness or spite, that's always been my honest opinion. Crab is more well rounded and much more effective underneath while still bringing some big play ability down the field. The keyword though is healthy, I'm not sure to what extent Crabtree is still being affected by the ACL. Would love to have him here if we feel good about his rehab and progress from last year.. not sure what his market value is however.
Granted. But, how is he as a locker room presence. Any particular reason why Torrey was signed in SF instead of resigning Crabtree? Curious to know the answers to these.
BJ Raji anyone??
When I first heard he had backed out of Houston, I was happy. Now that he has signed with Houston, strangely I am not so sad.
Yea Webb will be 30 in October and Williams just turned 32.
I guess my point was that Williams has a slight edge on Webb as an outside CB and obviously due to Webb getting older and sustaining the injuries he has sustained his coverage skill has declined.
Williams is a vet but is always an asset when he is on the field. With him and Jimmy on the outside Webb at the nickel and a potential early pick on a CB we could be much improved next year.
Got it.
Just read that it seems we're interested in Tramon Williams. I'd be thrilled if we got him. He's older but he's still playing very well
5M a year? That is a little high for a 32 yr old corner no? Unless of course we sign him to a two year deal with one year guaranteed and an option for the next year... Then again, we are under the hook to pay Webby much more than that already and he doesn't show signs of wanting to take a pay cut either.
Wilfork is probably the most Raven like Patriot ever.
He's the only patriot i have ever liked..oh and he should have been our 2004 draft pick :/
Amen! Couldn't agree more.
Interesting. I thought I read he was in Houston today, but I like your report better lol. I'd be really happy if we could land him. He's older but he would help supplant the important veteran leadership on the DL for a year or two. I'd assume he'll want a two year deal.
I want him badly! Based on his earlier pressers and comments, he has a ton of respect for the Ravens, so my gut tells me he'll be more than happy to be a Raven!
Hell Yea! just read it too apparently he might come for cheaper than he wants after leaving his previous visits. After losing out on Perish Cox I feel we might push hard for Williams, and Williams is the superior CB IMO he could man the outside and give us the chance to move Webb to the nickel permanently as he can't cover outside WR at his age anymore.
Hoping and praying for this signing to go through.
At his age? I thought Webb was younger than Williams no?
WilFork didn't like Houston , were one step closer
Where did you hear this? Music to my ears!
Edit: I just saw the link - thanks!
Lol maybe a coincidence?
I know. It was less than a coincidence I think. We weren't as interested in Scott Chandler as the media made it out to be, it turns out! So Ozzie Awesome is fine in my book as always!!
Wilfork would interest me depending on how much money he'd ask for.
But one guy no one is speaking about is BJ Raji. Has he signed a contract yet?
He's struggled a bit over the last couple of years, and I put that down to injury. If we feel that we could get him healthy and performing someone near his best, he could be a real bargain.
Looks like Wilfork is much more comfortable going to Houston given his familiarity with that staff. As for Raji, I read a report that he was doing really well in the gym and has some power back in his legs and hips. Squatted 1100 lbs evidently! So, he might be a good 'prove it' kind of signing this year.
I can understand New England going after Steve Johnson, there were many times when he did some damage to Derrelle Revis.
NE seems to target and get every player we seem to want. What's up with that Ozzie?

You may actually be correct. I think we're gonna wait till additional cuts from teams as the off season prods along.
