I've been waiting for some updates on their health situations. Hope these 2 guys along with Davis can make a solid contribution to our D.

I usually like us going over-looked early on. I don't why but it always feels like when we are favored, like we don't play with that same grittiness. Or we get let some closely contested games slip away.

Well not surprised by Supernaw releasing at all given Boyle and Willams were drafted. But I'm surprised by the timing of Wenning's release. I mean I get that we signed Shaub as a backup but I would if thought wenning would have made it to the second Preseason game.

Well, last offseason I read plenty of articles about Matt Elam how he gained confidence within the defensive structure was playing more freely in practice, making calls, I even remember Ladarius Webb speaking glowly about Elam's improvement. To be honest even before he forced into playing CB with all the injuries he just wasn't playing well enough. Blowing a coverage here and there as a safety is understandable ( I mean I lived with Landry, Pollard, Ihedigbo biting on play fakes occasionally too ) but those guys were much better tacklers, way more reliable at making a tackle after giving up a reception. That's been a real disappoint for me how poorly Elam tackles. So even when he might have solid underneath coverage a miss tackle would lead to bigger gain. Art Brown yeah I understand last year CJ and D.Smith played great, but I feel like Art Brown needs to at least find a way to get on special teams and impact the game there if he hopes to earn some PT. If he were a factor on ST he'd at least make the game day roster and occasionally get into defensive subpackages.

I totally disagree with the notion that players shouldn't seek out contract negotiations. Each player has to view themselves as their own business entity, they have to market themselves to teams and hope to get signed to a deal. JJ was drafted by the Ravens, played here for 9 seasons ( not a few years ). And let's be realistic after 9 seasons of being a role player on a star-studded defense, and the team has already drafted several players at the position ( Kruger & Upshaw ). He had no leverage to get a good contract, since he wasn't a big name it's not like he ever received a huge contract with a big signing bonus. I'm sure he realized his own physical limitations after all the injuries and 9 years in the league and knew this was his last shot at making more money to secure his family for the long term. ( it is still a job). It almost seems like you want to categorize JJ with someone like Adalius Thomas ( whom became a versatile pro bowler highly sought after FA. ) signed away to the highest bidder The Patriots and didn't perform as he did with us. JJ on the other hand, was the type of player that all Ravens fans knew and division Rival fans knew but not many other football fans would know because he didn't make the flashy plays ( so it's not that he left and went unnoticed, he left and continued to do work, the same work that made him well respected within our organization. ).

Glad to see he's retiring a raven. Still wish he could have been apart of that Super Bowl run. All the hard work ( dirty grunt work ), sacrifices he put in for us for years.

I didn't even think of last season counting as a year accrued towards 5 years away. Since he didn't play on a team at all. Just let it float right past me lol

Not sure anyone mentioned this, yet. But I've always felt Ed Reed built a 1st ballot HOF résumé. After Troy Polamalu retired ESPN and others wrote about how he might be 1st Ballot but it's not as clear cut as it were a few years ago. - with Ed retiring in the same offseason there is no way 2 Safeties would ever go 1st ballot together.

I was on bleacher report, I saw a bunch of Ravens fans complaining about the team "reaching" for offensive players and they felt we should have past on one or both Perriman & Williams in favor of a CB and RB. All I could think of how last year people complained that it was back to back defense players, screamed give Joe some weapons ( we all can agree we wanted a WR much earlier than getting Campanaro in 7th lol ). Fast forward to this year, front office gets two highly rated offensive talents ( now people are complaining that CB, RB, Pass rusher wasn't addressed early enough. ). People just never happy with a pick.

Maybe I'm wrong but I honestly don't remember this kid ever being with The U ( I think maybe you mixing him up with Denzel Perryman ). Because if he Perriman were at The U at any point I would recall him in competition Hurns, Dorsett, Waters. I've been waiting for a bigger WR to develop for us. ( got my fingers crossed Stacy Coley has big a season next year at the U ) lol.

Every time I see Maxx's highlights, it makes me think of old Jeremy Shockey ( from The U ) highlights, where he's dropping his head on defenders to gain extra yards, hurdling them, just being highly competitive on the field.

I honestly can't wait to see flacco hit him over the middle to move the chains. And give us another redzone option. Pre-draft I would have been okay with either TE Williams or Walford ( but I didn't realize this kid was only 20 years old ) there is plenty of growth potential as a player, once he's taught the nuances of his position. What made this pick extra sweet was that we jumped ahead of the Steelers and grabbed him before they could.

Any updates on Ladarius Gunter. Hadn't seen his name in a team yet?

I was optimistic for Arthur Brown. 2 full seasons not much playing time, not even special teams.... Has me remembering how he couldn't get PT at the U although he was our top recruit. Sean spence and others out played, then he transferred back home to Kansas and went to K-state and became a tackling machine.

Not many safeties have the natural hips necessary to play Corner. Where they must turn or flip their hips on a dime to react to WRs. Elam's 40 wouldn't help his coverage ability, it would only help him recover from being burnt after bad coverage. Elam is a strange case, he has played very poorly thus far, but he has never played as the in the box safety ( SS ) that he seemed more suited to be. It seemed with every week his tackling got worse, he definitely lacks the confidence needed to make plays in the backend. He thinks to much when the ball is in the air, then he tries to overcompensate with a "big hit" that usually leads to a missed poor formed tackle.

No. I believe he is as well. He is a decent player but he gets way to many penalties. I do like that Browner tackles well and plays hard ( with an edge )

I'd put Trent Cole at the Top of our short term FA list with his recent release. He could come in on a cheap 1-2 year deal rotate with Suggs and doom to fill the void of McPhee. Cheap Veteran deal off of a release is a typical Ravens type steal. I hope we stay clear of Cary Williams honestly.

Also once Bulger retired the team has basically chosen not to put extra money in the position of QB. They haven't carried 3 QBs as often, have relied on Tyrod on rookie contract to limit cost. This was going on before Flacco got his deal.

Last real backup that we knew could win a couple games if necessary was Bulger. We may sign a veteran backup this year with Taylor set to be a free agent. Even with Wenning on the roster I think we get him competition unless he looks terrific in preseason. Flacco has been very durable, he's tougher than the media gives him credit for, Flacco takes some shots and just keep getting up. But if he were injured and the team crashed for a season, then it would only mean we collect on a rare high draft pick.

I just hope, he does a good job and stays with the organization long term, Flacco went from 1 coordinator ( Cam Cameron ) for the better part of 5 season with an assortment of QB coaches during that time. To now 4 OC in the 3 seasons. Makes me wish even more than we could have gotten Norv Turner last year.... Because he has failed as a HC multiple times and hopefully knows he's a better OC once and for all.
