  1. lol I said recent Bama picks. Jarrett Johnson is well over a decade ago. The same fans that loved his lunchpail mentalty hated Upshaw for the same exact play. But if I were digging deep like that I'd give him credit for finding Le'Ron McClain too.
  2. Didnt the entire league pass on M.Jack last year for it to come out his knee isn't as bad as once thought a week after the draft. I'd classify Ross going there as a team panicking to get a WR since they lost 2 last year. I don't feel any of the WRs were worthy of Top10 picks, but I thought the first would go to Buffalo at 10, instead all 3 went in the top 10. Teams know it's a deep defensive draft panicked and overdrafted 2 QBs and 3 WRs in the top 15 pushing down much better prospects.
  3. It's not about just drafting a Corner 1st round. This draft has tremendous depth at corner, trading back and adding a pick then getting him I would have been okay with. But for his lack of ball skills, I would have been fine getting T.white, A.Jackson, K.King, several spots later and gaining an extra pick. T.White and A.Jackson would have also filled the Returner position day 1.
  4. Lets recall Ozzie's Bama connections also led to T.Cody. And im one of the few that actually liked C.Upshaw even though he never pass rushed, I appreciate grunt work Of the recent Bama draft picks only Mosley has lived up to expectations.
  5. I can't believe all 3 WRs (Davis, Williams and Ross ) went in the top 10. After Davis and Williams went my mind went to defense lol.
  6. Yeah that's true Kirkpatrick has been ok nothing special though not as bad as milliner lol. Not only that but if that's the pick why not trade back to about 25 and pick up a few picks. Even if Humphrey is gone there's T.White, G.Conley, plenty of other corners or maybe even get Takk at back of the 1st.
  7. Lol yeah I mean as I saw this unfolding i was thinking Allen's versatility and technique. Already plays in 3-4 moving across the line. Has excellent hand play. I never even dreamed he'd fall to us at 16. Never even had a simulated mock draft do that. Ahh well.
  8. You do realize T.Suggs has had the same injury twice with no lingering issues. So why would you even compare it to Perriman? The team has added secondary help already neither Humphrey or Jones would go in as an immediate starter. Not to mention I said I was hoping before the draft he would be looked at in the 3rd round man. Not the first.
  9. He was cleared and deemed healthy! He has some arthritis in shoulder, no team gave him a failed physical or report. Every year the nonsense happens where some player has some issue that teams fear or he has degenerative knee that hasn't cost him yet but it will ( D.Bowers ).
  10. The m.humprhey pick ends my hope for Sidney Jones in the 3rd. Read his doctor said he should be healthy by September.
  11. Wow so I just woke up before my graveyard shift to watch part of last nights draft. I'm shocked to see Jonathan Allen and R.Foster on the board and we chose M.Humphrey instead. I was drooling over Allen all year.. so much for this BPA stuff lol
  12. I really wish this site would continue with Game Thread and a Draft section.
  13. Jeez that's a lot to take in. I understand having some optimism but dial it down a bit until we've at least seen some preseason snaps with this defense. Upfront we've only seen B.Will, Urban & Pierce, while I'm sure at least one of three Kaufusi, Henry or Davis will step up and contribute, I can't throw praise their way just yet. Henry was a 4th round pick and he essentially got beat out for playing time by Pierce an undrafted rookie FA. The team decided to not even bother taking C.Davis off of IR when he was healthy, they decided to bring back Elam instead. Sure we could say hey the secondary had needs and that would suffice for an answer but still. I do believe a veteran and/or draft pick will be added into the mix.. I'm all for praising M.Judon but Z.Smith took three steps backwards last year. His pass rush was nonexistent most of the time, his edge setting is average at best I was really disappointed in his development for his sophomore season. He definitely needs to get stronger at the point of attack and work on more pass rush moves.
  14. There's 5 players ( Pierce, Urban, Davis, Henry, & Kaufusi) with 2 spots available , so whoever earns the starting jobs will deserve them. To me the early favorites are Urban and Pierce I hope these guys all push each other to be great. In the past I've read similar things about D.Tyson, KLM and even C.Davis his rookie year, so I'm just hoping potential and expectations can meet and turn into production and consistency.
  15. Dude 5 sacks a game is a bit much! That would be 80 sacks for the entire season. The 84 bears have the record with 72 sacks in a season. Here's a look at the last 5 seasons for Team Sack Leaders : 2016- 48 sacks Cardinals 2015- 52 sacks Broncos 2014- 54 sacks Bills 2013- 60 sacks Panthers 2012- 52 sacks tie Broncos & Rams So a more reasonable expectation is 3 to 3.5 sacks a game.
  16. I decided to go and look both up Travis Taylor actually has better career stats than Mark Clayton too, not by much but still. T.Taylor 312 rec, 4017 yds, 22 tds M.Clayton 260 rec, 3448 yds, 14 tds
  17. I read the first couple of sentences and stopped because this guy works for the Ravens and he wrote for the first 19 years the Ravens only drafted one WR in the first round Mark Clayton. So that means that Travis Taylor was never drafted? The same T.Taylor from Florida that was apart of the 2000-2001 Super Bowl team. You know Jamal Lewis pick number 5 and Travis Taylor was pick 10 in 2000 draft. I get he never developed into anything special but get the facts straight at least. I mean I knew this without researching.
  18. Although it's extremely unlikely that either Jamal Adams or Malik Hooker will slip all the way to number #16, the Ravens would not pass up on either of those exceptional talents at that point. Weddle is 32 years old, I'd guess he has 2 really good years left in him then his play will decline. It would be up to Pees to find a way to use everyone. Heck the Cardinals rolled out Mathieu, Jefferson, Bucannon ( Safety and Linebacker ), Swearinger all at Safety, slot or inside as a "hybrid LB" at one point or another to accommodate the talent. I've had Hooker and even M.Lattimore fall in mocks on Fanspeak.com it's usually because of QBs being picked early pushing guys down the board. Similarly I'd image if Reuben Foster falls to #16 the Ravens might take him even though Correa is in place. The question then would be what does the team do with Correa to not waste him on the bench.
  19. That's not true Ellerbe was in the doghouse barely getting playing time for most of 2 seasons, after having a decent rookie year while rotating with McClain and T.Gooden. There were articles written about Ellerbe's lack of playing ahead of McClain. McPhee had an outstanding rookie year, had fans here calling him mcphenom, then injuries and positional moves limited his production until his contract year. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Jernigan was going to become A.Donald next season. Most of us including myself found frustrations in his play at times since he would occasionally have a few dominant plays in game. So his flashes of dominance had everyone waiting for him to truly breakout whereas. Jernigan posted at least 20 total tackles and 4 sacks all 3 years that can't be said for McPhee, Kruger, or A.Jones.
  20. Thats exactly my feelings on both thoughts above. If the move was made and we secured their pick giving us three 3rd rounders, then I'm beyond ecstatic. I'm jumping around even if we parted with a 4th this year and next year's 5th rounder. Also I was already bummed that we lost L.Guy he played very well last year didn't get a ton of credit for it. This will give a bunch of young guys the opportunity to compete for 2 starting spots, Urban might be ready. Pierce had an excellent rookie year to build on. C.Davis, Kaufusi, W.Henry all have incompletes, there's barely even any Preseason film between those three and all coming from IR. The draft might provide even more competition.
  21. We've had a much higher percentage of players perform well on their contract year of their rookie deals than those that haven't. Off the top of my head: Ellerbe, Kruger, McPhee, A.Jones, Osemele, T.Smith earned themselves big contracts elsewhere. One of the only guys to play significant time then leave following their rookie contract and not get paid is Upshaw. Just because he's been traded today doesn't mean I'm changing my tune. I felt Jernigan was going to take yet another step forward this year get about 8+ sacks this year. Now everyone like he faded at the end of last year, the entire defense faded at the end of last year.
  22. Three 3rd rounders would have be sweet though. I had a big smile on my face until I saw we parted with the 99th.
  23. this is baffling to me because since the 99th pick ( osemele comp pick) is apart of the trade, doesn't feel like they got much. Jernigan could have played out the season earned a big contract and got us another future 3rd round comp pick. Should be interesting to have two early 3rd rounders.
