Thank you for the kind words! I will be working with purplepitta on adding new and great features that will definitely set us apart from all competition that could arise in the future, although, I would still like to come in contact with Bold about the situation.

This has been pointed out multiple times, but it seems to keep being brought up so I will once again clarify that the monetary cost of running and maintaining these boards was a non-factor in the decision to sunset them. Yes, it does cost money to run them, but that was not even part of the discussion of closing the boards.
The boards will remain open through the end of the day tomorrow. (Friday, May 5 is the final day.)
When we talk about the usage drop-off, it refers to every metric we have -- not just registrations or post counts. We completely understand that the vocal group on here is extremely passionate and active. However, the number of actual active users is considerably smaller than many seem to imagine. Despite the 70,000+ registered accounts, only a very small majority have been active in the last year to two years -- and that includes people who don't post comments. We understand there are plenty of members who come to read, rather than post their thoughts. (In fact, more than 70% of registered users have never posted a single time.) When we talk about activity, it includes those fans as well. All of it has declined. The number of members visiting and posting on the boards on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis has reached very low levels. (Last preseason/regular season, only about 3% of members visited the boards. And in October and November, all of the posted comments were made by just 1% of the users. These numbers include news article comments as well.)
The mods and I greatly appreciate all of the compliments about how our board is better than others out there and how much better our members are than those on other boards. (We have always agreed.) But as any of the mods can attest, it's not easy to keep it so clean and the trolling to a minimum. There is a significant amount of effort and behind-the-scenes communication going on between the mods and admins. (In fact, the amount of conversation taking place in the mod area is greater than all of last season's game threads and this year's draft forum post volumes combined.) To keep things up to our high standards requires a great deal of time and human resources, and we must constantly evaluate how we're utilizing those resources so that we might best serve all our fans.
As you may have noticed, several fans have been looking to launch an unofficial community for those still interested in interacting with each other in a message board environment beyond tomorrow. I have been in contact with those creating the boards at www.purpleflock.com and invite you to check them out.
We know that many who have voiced their displeasure will still disagree with our decision to close the boards, but we hope you might respect the fact that, since last offseason, much thought, debate and consideration has gone into this decision. We greatly appreciate your support as fans and thank you for your unsurpassed passion.
Thank you for the mention of the new board that I am working on with @purplepittabread88

PS: Time to take off the Ravens message board from my favorite tab.....
You should look into adding https://purpleflock.com to your favorites tab ![]()
To everybody talking about how these forums were not looked after as well as they could have been, with them being ignored, posts being deleted, etc. I can assure you that rules and the overall way the new unofficial board at PurpleFlock will be managed will be a lot less strict. We will be spending a lot more time to making sure that the users and community feel at home.

Got both boards saved in my favourites. I'll give it a few weeks to see which one sets off faster.

@BOLDnPurPnBlacK you really need yo get in touch with them. You can see some posters are being turned by their site already.
Don't make it a [profanity deleted] measuring contest
That's exactly what I don't want to happen. Because it will just lead to future conflicts and both boards won't reach their full potential. Still waiting on a PM from @BOLDnPurPnBlacK

But the beginning stages are already under way to develop a fully customized, privately hosted and scaleable forum community.
The goal is to have it up and running as soon as possible - no later than the start of the regular season.
Eventually id like to have user submitted articles and other features to make it truly our own.
Glad everyone is as committed to sticking together as I am.
Hey Bold. You are saying that the new board you are building is just in the beginning stages. Purplepitta and I already have a board that is more than halfway complete and fully customized as well. I hope that we can come to some agreement or merger between the two boards. I have a PM I want to send you regarding the whole situation and what both parties can benefit, but you have incoming messages disabled. Please PM me as I'd like to discuss this with you.
We are just today opening it to signups, so to all users that want to give it a try, you can sign up at; https://purpleflock.com
We are also acquiring some staff members from the official board.
However, some features will be limited until later this weekend.
Again, you can visit @purplepittabread88 's and my new unofficial board at https://purpleflock.com.
If you have any questions or concerns, you can also email forums@purpleflock.com ![]()
After reading the replies, I do think that opening the board early is in good interest, for members to sign up. It is important to note that some features will be missing until it is complete on Friday. I believe I will be able to get it "complete" enough to open it to signups in a few hours.
I will also be messaging @BOLDnPurPnBlacK about the situation to see what can be done. ![]()
Edit: Bold, it seems as though you aren't receiving messages right now. Could you private message me so I can send you my message? Thanks.
I thought purplepitta was going to post this last night, but I guess he didn't.
Here is a quick preview of what the new board that he and I are creating. Sorry for the bad quality. I couldn't upload the full sized picture, but you get the idea.

Will do

Thanks, @purplepittabread88 and I took quite a while coming up with a name that sounded good and wasn't already taken haha

As one of the creators alongside purplepitta on the new board, I can say for sure that it will look great and work well ![]()

I believe that we are going to be using the XenForo platform as it works better than most other forum software out there. I think as purplepitta said, we are keeping it closed off to just us currently until release. However, the possibility remains that if we need the extra help, we can definitely contact you.
2 hours ago, SepticeyePoe said:Here's something that I just thought of. I think I remember someone saying that other teams link to other boards. Would it be possible to have the Ravens site link to wherever we go next?
I don't know the possibility of the new forum's link actually being linked on the official ravens site, but it could work. Who knows ![]()
If anyone has any questions or concerns about the new board, suggestions, etc. Be sure to email us! You can find the email on the countdown page. https://purpleflock.com
13 minutes ago, allblackraven said:You might want to get in touch with @BOLDnPurPnBlacK - there's been an effort going on since the announcement to keep the board going elsewhere, quite a few people have signed up on a transitional board already.
I have noticed this, and I don't want to bash on BOLDnPurPnBlacK, but the current forum software he is using seems kind of outdated. You said it was transitional, but I don't know how he then expects to get the 100 or so users that have already signed up to move to a new forum without much grasp of the community he has acquired.
By the way, I am a friend of the OP (@purplepittabread88), as well as a creator of the new forum board alongside him.
Anyway, I do believe that possibly getting in touch with him would be beneficial as he already has quite a bit of users, and we have the domain name. Not only that but we will be using our own site with a more sophisticated board.
Again, not bashing, but yeah. It could be beneficial. I will definitely talk about it with purplepitta.

The necessary style changes have already been brought to my attention. I will be fixing the current issues on the dark theme and also implementing a lighter theme that users will also have the option to choose if they wish.
