Pees shouldn't have to scheme pressure but he has to do it when you have two old pass rushers with injuries and coming off injuries as young guys fail to develop except Judon--hopefully he continues to improve because Smith looked good last year but flamed out this year.

Then what is his job if not to create the scheme to be successful, you just said it we have past their prime pass rushers....then you need to be able to scheme pressure. Pees is not good with designing pressure packages( they fool no one) he keeps it simple because that's him staying in his lane and knowing his strengths/weaknesses. The only thing is the ravens thrive with a pressure based defense...organized chaos....the TALENT MAKES PEES LOOK DECENT NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND....you have fast Lbs like Mosley and Orr yet they rarely use them to attack....one player goes down( last year it was suggs) and the defense looks like trash....how many more blown leads before we realize it's his m.o. There's a reason the pats and belicheck fired this guy and some fans still back this guy. I just hope we can get another pagano or rex in here and watch that swagger come back

  2. The problem with harbaugh from my perspective is this team doesn't need the attributes he's strong at anymore. There's really nothing more he can teach these guys, they've heard all the speeches and coach speak. What's needed is a coach who can develop young talent, a coach who can teach a system and execution of said system. Flacco in particular, can we really say that harbaugh is the coach to pull the best out of his talent??? Flacco needs someone who can help with the mental aspects of the game 10 years in he doesn't need a motivator. Sometimes you have to move on from what's familiar in order to grow, staying with what's familiar can make things stagnant....THERE IS NOTHING NEW FOR JOHN HARBAUGH TO TEACH JOE FLACCO

Lastly with harbaugh he is coordinator dependent...we get good assistants in here they become top head coaching candidates....we get mediocre assistants they eventually get fired( most cases later rather than sooner) while the team is constantly changing systems both on offense and defense. With veteran players you can do this and get away with it like when he first got here but young players need that stability in order to develop and most importantly gain their confidence on this level. We keep coach and we will be having the same questions and seeing the same issues just rinse and repeat, I agree if he stays let him keep his guys marty and pees if we are to make a change bring in someone who is firm in what systems they want to run.

  3. Scott Mitchell, trent dilfer, Chris Redman, Tony banks, kyle boller, Anthony Wright, Steve McNair on his last legs.....none of these guys have the natural arm talent of a Flacco....and if billick could succeed with those guys I think it would be a no brainer he could succeed with this group of players. He definitely had a knack for hiring solid assistants....only problem I'd be worried about is are his best days behind him and what's new that he's learned being out of the game for a while....but these are the type of considerations we need in order to regain our identity

Your points are well-taken but Oz shares the responsibility for putting playmakers on the 53 man roster. There have been some recent successes in the draft and some failures. If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem. Oz has not solved our secondary problem IMHO nor has he solved our pass-rush problem via the draft. Who do you look to to do that if not him? Of course the coaching has to be better. Many have acknowledged that but it appears the game may have passed him by. Have Wallace and Perriman been consistently getting separation from their defenders or have I been missing something? I haven't seen the blinding speed to which you're referring. Nor have I seen the dependable hands by Perriman when he needs to make a clutch, move-the-chains catch. We need more playmakers on both sides of the ball and coaches who can coach them up. As you state so eloquently, when one marquee player is hurt, it shouldn't put us into a tailspin but it does seem to have that affect.

I believe that the talent is here, the depth is what's lacking and why because year after year other teams pick off OUR FREE AGENTS...we lost a pro bowl caliber guard last year in FA and have line issues the next....my point is other teams still values our talent it's why we always get comp picks, this is a talented roster and coaches has been holding them back. Flacco we've all seen what he capable with good game planners and play calling....you see him this year without it. What I see is Ozzie building the ravens up like he always does and harbaugh and company trying to change our identity and it's clashing. The point about Wallace and perriman is they are vertical threats if the offense is a short passing that requires precise routes is it a wonder that they struggle?? Torrey smith wasn't great (another high pick who got paid) but we knew how to use him, how to setup opportunities to get it to him the ball at what he does best. Dean pees and the defense is like a rerun over and over again.....bring back organized chaos

  5. Everyone getting on Ozzie like he all of sudden stop knowing how to select talent...man name one draft pick you can say these coaches have made better??? Player development is a big part of coaching and an area harbaugh is weak at. This team has talent on it, but if coaches continue to not use it properly...for instance we have Wallace and periman with tremendous speed on the outside but we never developed a vertical attack this year....it's no coincidence that we use the running game and the offense looked good but how many games this year have we committed to the run....blown leads in the 4th is dean pees calling card,  I remind folks we almost blew a 3 td lead in the superbowl and that was with our hof players playing, the guy needs to go. This team wins with talent alone it's just not a well coached group...is it any wonder that soon as any marquee guy goes down the whole unit falters, the talent level drops and coaches have no answers. Compare that to new england who loses gronk and amendola and brady still puts up 400 yards, the let revis and browner walk after winning the superbowl and the defense is still one of the best in points allowed

  6. Not sure why so many are surprised by the offense....tressman had Marshall and Jeffries at receiver Bennett at tight end with forte coming out the backfield and that offense was terrible in Chicago. The guy was a bad hire and the regression on offense should've been a surprise to no one.

  7. if the Cowboys dont invest 4 years into the Offensive front line to protect Tony Romo that Rookie would be running for his life.

No doubt about that but my point was OUR WINNING FORMULA and about it being obsolete in today's league...which of course it's not but I was responding to another poster

  8. Therefore teams relying on their D are getting obsolete real fast.

Was it not just last season when the Broncos won the title playing how? Relying on what? The seahawks do what? Last years Panthers compared to this seasons team the difference is what? The ravens have a organizational philosophy that works for us and no matter the rule changes every dec/jan the best teams end up being teams who follow the blueprint including this season....think cowboys who with a rookie qb have found the blueprint and are executing it

  9. You bring up the record over the past few years like it's one of the worst in the league. I mean I get it its disappointing and not exactly where we want to be but if you take out the injury plagued 5-11 season it's not nearly as bad as you make it out to be. There are pieces here, the team just needs to build on them.

    ________________________________________________

it's mediocre bruh, that's all there is to it. We let guys go to take his back (rightfully) but what has the return been? look harbaugh is a motivator guys play hard for him also does a good job managing personal.... player development not his strong suit... X's and o's developing game plans another weakness. Look my main peev on harbaugh is he knows what works and has worked for the ravens being successful for a long time and you change it up or allowed a bad coordinator to change it up. His weaknesses as a coach is so exposed because like pollard said he has to actually COACH THE TEAM UP NOW. This team lacks execution they don't run or pass the ball efficiently, 2nd most penalized, constantly starts games slow and worse off all almost never make ingame adjustments the clock management...etc....etc.....what is that if not coaching??? They play hard and have plenty heart yessss, but this team needs execution to be taught, Flacco needs someone to challenge and help him mentally with his game, we all saw what he looked like with guys who know how to game plan and keep his mental focused in now look at him,  read these boards and look at the heat he takes. Last thing it's December we've played 2 games where's the running game? So we plan on going on a playoff run most likely on the road without a running game, THAT'S OUR GAME PLAN NOW.

  10. Agree or not, there is something to what Pollard said. I recall many fans, including myself questioning why so many vets were being sent packing. Of course, after such a good playoff run, many felt at that time that Joe would make players around great and the Defense simply needed to reload. Some of the coaches left too, which is often overlooked

    _________________________________________________

Our head coach is dependent on having great assistants to mask his weaknesses. When harbaugh, marty and pees is the brain trust that we rely on is really a surprise to see this team underachieve and get out coached and out classed against better teams

  11. This exactly what I keep saying when I see that quote. That team was lightning in a bottle and nothing more. I mean honestly Birk was the biggest loss of anyone who left after that season and he was retiring anyway.  Other than Boldin every single one of the non retiring players that left was replaceable. Hell, we backed into to finding a better safety in Ihedigbo.

    _______________________________________

Every single player was replacable??? ...lol..... We still are looking to replace the leadership lost, it's taken 3 seasons to get competent play at the safety positions, o line has been a recurring problem. I'll say it again COACHING IS THE RAVENS WEAKEST LINK and will continue to be with this regime. What's the record after all those replacable guys left???? Why the constant turnover of offensive coordinator??? Coach can't implement his own offense so he's dependent on his assistants so even if we get a good one were back at square one when they leave.

  12. Couple of thoughts:

    1. Getting outcoacched was painfully evident. Harbaugh is a solid HC, but no mastermind like Belichick. From the way NE went uptempo early in the game and completely exhausted out our league lading D-line which allowed them to push us around with the run game the rest of the day, to couple of trick plays just at the right time, and even to the last play before 2 minute warning in the end of game, where they passed since it the clock was gonna stop anyway and caught the entire defense off guard - our team was just not ready for anything in this game. And the saddest part is, our entire team from coaches to players seemed to be baffled and surprised by the things NE did. As if we haven't seen it year in and year out. Our Harbaugh&Boys just got schooled, period.

    2. Flacco and Brady both veteran QBs, yet one of them is capable of reading the defense, detecting weaknesses in coverage, audibling to a right play to take advantage of those weaknesses and make the defense pay for their play call. The other dumps the ball off to the closest receiver, usually near the line of scrimmage.

    3. It was actually pathetic to see Ravens attempt nohuddle uptempo offense next to Brady and Cheat-a-lots. NE was on the line scrimmage ready to snap 10-20 seconds from the end of last play and our defense could not even get into their stances. Our "uptempo" offense never managed to get a snap off with considerably more than 10 seconds on the clock. Absolutely no urgency late in the game, we just wasted time between plays. And when running our regular offense, our guys got lined up with 10 second on play clock. How in the hell if Flacco, even if he is capable of that, make any audibles with so little time remaining?! How in the hell can other teams get ready to run a play at least 10 seconds faster than us?! That puts our offense in a disadvantage even before the snap, damn it!

    _________________________________________________

Coaching is the weakest part of the ravens and has been for sometime now, I've grown used to watching us being outcoached for some time now and most weeks out talent can cover for it. The pats for the most part did what they do and exposed it again on monday night

  13. I appreciate all that Harbaugh and Flacco has done, but I think it's time to move in a different direction. This team has become a shell of it's former self and I'm not sure we will ever get our swagger back with the 2 of them running this team.

    _______________________________________________

agree with this post for the most part. harbs deserves one more year imo but it is time for the front office to do a much better job and take blame for several poor drafts and personnel decisions lately. we have needed a cb for a few years now and nothing has been done aside from bringing in retreads. brittle jimmy will never be healthy for a full season with his fat contract. offense relies too much on a 37 y.o. which is sad. i would put joe on the trading block and and see if we can get at least a 3rd for him. go with mallet for a year while we develop another qb from the draft. i believe joe has reached his peak at least with the ravens. maybe he goes elsewhere and plays more consistently but watching him and this offense these past 2 years has been painful. im just venting but a different approach from the organization is needed. hope bisciotti punches his fist through the table at the state of the ravens press conference.

My belief is that harbaugh and Flacco have already reached the apex of what have/can accomplish together and increasingly it's looking as a break up is in order for the team to reach the next level.  I love both men for getting us over the top 4 years ago....but that was 4 years ago and the mediocrity that's been in place since is leading to this eventual break up. And I say eventually because after 9 years together they are who they are. I would keep flacco and look for an offensive minded coach and try to get the best out of Flacco these next few years vs. Getting rid of Flacco and then trusting Ozzie to be able to draft and then have harbaugh develop that talent

  14. Great game yesterday but lets stop with the elite talk, 15 td's 11 int's is hardly elite and by the way you need to be consistent in order to be considered good and if flacco is anything he is consistently inconsistent. Anyways that all I'm asking from him is to build on this performance and develop some consistency. Won't need 4 td's every week but that decisiveness with his reads and throws must continue. Being a fan of ravens bully ball I want us to run more but if joe is more comfortable slinging it around alot then do that, at 22 million a year we should be able to put the ball in his hands and expect performances like yesterday. Time for him to take full ownership of the offense good and bad, love what I saw yesterday he need to keep it up then the elite talk will be justified. Always has had elite talent physically but mentally he was elite yesterday

  15. Ray didn't need to apologize, we fans know you're a raven ride or die and you like everyone else is waiting for flacco to wake the hell up and start balling. Getting outplayed by rookies these last 2 years should be embarrassing for him...I'm still holding out hope he can turn it around but right now we're paying over a million a td pass that ain't good

  16. My opinion the talent is there but they need to find their identity on offense again. The last 2 off seasons with tressman at the helm the offensive identity has been in flux with a pass first love the shotgun coordinator instead off running first and pushing the ball downfield in the passing game.

Injured players coming back will help obviously but what would help more is to joe back playing from under center more bringing back the balance we've had before

  17. Brian billick got paid to not coach for a few years by the ravens after getting fired because he signed his extension only 1 year prior when we went 13-3....superbowl winning coaches like billick ,gruden, cowher, dungy...etc. Won't usually take interviews for certain jobs because with their resumes they look to exert more control on personal decisions....Coaches on this level avoid bad organizations as they can ruin their reps( think mike holgrem browns...shanahan... joe gibbs redskins)that help them maintain cushy network jobs
