Once again a player drafted moves up on everybody's board after the ravens pick him. Lmao. Trouble finding the throws doesn't go away with experience. It is a like a rythym you have or don't.

His stock nosedived Prisco said because when his tape was broken down he struggles with his back to ball. And when push came to shove the younger cornerbacks we're outplaying him because of it. He said his sources at Bama confirmed it

Impatient from press coverage. Opens inside or outside too early rather than waiting for a clear declare from receiver. Struggles to stay in phase throughout the route and allows separation opportunities. Feet are fast but sloppy. Footwork becomes bulky and balance diminishes when matched against quality route workers. Plays a scrambling style of coverage that is too reliant upon his athletic gifts. Issues playing the deep ball are a concern. From off coverage, overreacts to route fakes and opens the door to a big play. Allowed more than 19 yards per completion as a starter. Can be slow to locate the ball and finds himself out of optimal position to play the ball.

"There are some things on tape that really worry you. If he has trouble playing the long ball it is going to be bombs away against him and his team might have to change how they cover because of that. Those issues usually don't go away." -- Scouting director for AFC team
NFL COMPARISON
Jimmy Smith
BOTTOM LINE
Talented height-weight-speed prospect who comes from NFL bloodlines. Might need time for his technique to catch up with his traits. Coverage inconsistencies could cause him to struggle against quality competition early on, but his mental makeup and recovery talent should help him pull through. Has the instincts and run-support skills to become an early starter for a zone-cover defense, but it will be hard for teams looking for a lockdown, man corner to pass on all of those physical gifts early in the draft.
Basically, expect him to be giving up big plays unless we play him in a more limited or specialized role with saftey help.
The scouting report is correct. When a player has trouble locating football much less getting his eyes around to anticipate and break it usually doesn't go away. That is something you can or can't do unfortunately for him. It's what makes Malcolm Butler so great. Gets his eyes around, anticipates finds and breaks on throws. His skills at doing that somehow helped tom Brady leapfrog Montana as the best QB of the last 25 yrs or so. Marlon can't do that and probably never will. Even his "Highlights" he sees the ball last second and scrambles to try and break it up. In his highlights anyways he was more less lucky cuz the WR dropped it and he was able to get in the way enough to cause a bobble and drop.
Not sure how our inept management could possibly have him BPA!! It is mind boggling. Does management not know what the great cornerbacks are?? What makes them so great?? Marlon could maybe excel in cover2 and any variety of zone coverage. Where he faces the QB and action and can use his elite closing burst, striking and tackling. Better yet with his size and physicality he could eventually be a great Safety. Especially if he totally bombs at cornerback it will force a move to safety. Where he could be really special!!

Ok so we lost out on the 3 WR's. OJ howard was as SAFE of a prospect as I;ve seen in years and could help in the run and recieving game.
I wonder if ozzie just tries to do the opposite of what any sane man would do just to look like he's some kind of genius at the end of it all...?
I agree 100%. And if this was a futures pick then y not draft oj Howard and get Jones in round2?? Jones is better than Humphrey and can excel in press off and zone. Humphrey I feel being solid and reliable but not a difference maker. Yet one more serviceable player without any difference makers on this team!!
BTW this being such a deep cornerback draft you can't help but think there are going to be round 3 and round4 cornerbacks outplay round1 cornerbacks. Ozzie does realize there is more to a team then the secondary?? If we were going to take a chance on a cornerback then I would of preferred sign Claiborne for $6mil and save our round1 pick for a difference maker
the offense sucked last year and got worse. Losing Steve Smith and Wagner. Does anybody in the front office realize what will happen if Joe lays an egg again?? After all management gave him that contract the franchise is locked into. Not going to look good if he lays an egg again while missing playoffs yet again. And if the rush regresses again I don't care who is in the secondary. If the rush regresses with Suggs older and Jerney gone the secondary could really struggle.

He'll be what he'll be, because of him.
Your argument is like saying -- Corey Davis is going to suck bc theres bigger WRs in this draft... and theres some really great WRs in the nfl that are big. So, if youre not really big you cant be good. "But hes an elite route runner and theres plenty of very good WRs that are elite route runners in the NFL." Yea, but big is the most important part of being a WR. And speed.
Therefore dont draft corey davis. He sucks. Its fact. Jalen ramsey will limit him, so dont draft him.
No one knows what any of these guys are going to do... but even those of us that love him think he will be really good in the NFL... which is different than saying "he cant handle NFL tackles bc every single one is amazing and if their hands touch him Barnett wont be able ot move. And theyll all be able to touch him bc his feet cant even move hes so slow."
Its like hyperbole. But worse. Bc you believe it.
The repeating of stupid dreams of every homer. Teams are going to kick him aside because of his traits don't add up to elite player. But the ravens are going to see the good and draft him anyways and he will reward the ravens. That's every homers pipe dream. Drafting a try hard player nobody else wanted and him becoming an elite player.
10 minutes ago, BOLDnPurPnBlacK said:maybe he does but thats bc hes one of the most athletic and technical LT's to come out in a long time. He was an ELITE prospect whose skill set actually matches up really well against Barnett's. There arent a lot of Stanleys in the NFL. The kid was the top rated LT in the league over the final 8-10 games. the LEAGUE not just among rookie tackles.
Thats like saying - dont take Corey Davis, because Jalen Ramsey can lock him up! Dont take Lamp bc Joey Bosa will blow past him!
Didn't say it was the only reason we shouldn't take. Was saying in general Stanley will swallow him up. Stanley is going to be great but I don't put much stock in PFF. Fans love it when it supports their home team players but attack it when it is harsh on their players
Some of the most elusive running backs have 3 comes above 7 while some QBs that aren't real dual threats run below 7 and a touch over. It isn't even close to determining the players overall athleticism
The homer way negging things you don't like to hear. That's really going to help Barnett sack the QB. Lmao
46 minutes ago, JoeyFlex5 said:But they can't get their hands on you if you are too low for them, if tackles are forced to wrap around the rushers shoulder and neck area then it's a hold, keeping the chest squared up opens up an opportunity for a clean block, or even just a staggering punch to knock a speed rusher too deep. But the hand fighting keeps the blocker from engaging, and the bend keeps the blocker from making any kind of play, you just really seem to underrate the power of a great bending edge rusher
Dude come on now. We're talking world class athletes. He isn't getting that low that a tackle can't get his hands on him. NFL tackles have stronger hands. Barnett's hand usage isn't going to mean jack. The holding happens when an edge rusher gets by him so fast while low. NFL tackles will mirror him and get their hands on him.
If Bengals take Barnett, Stanley will swallow him up!!
3 minutes ago, BOLDnPurPnBlacK said:Takes more than time to get your hands on and lock barnett out. Hes incredibly proficient with his hands, knocking others away and hes really good at decreasing the strike zone by getting a step, turning his shoulders and dipping way down low.
Plus speed/explosion does really help, but if you need a much wider arc to get to the QB; someone slower can get there sooner with more efficient steps. and thats what barnett does best -- bends, turns the corner and closes with force in just 3-4 steps. Even if his steps themselves are slower, he can still be much quicker than other bc they have to take 6 steps or more to get home and they have to cover more distance. And its hard to push Barnett beyond the pocket bc hes so economical with his footwork and turns that corner so tight. He makes it hard for QBs to even step up.
I will take the L if Barnett doesnt pan out. But im 100% sold that he has an ELITE skill set and sufficient athletic traits. Plus hes very young so its no foregone conclusion he doesnt get bigger, stronger, faster and more explosive. Hes still got some baby fat on him. Hes barely 20. Very decent chance his athleticism becomes more than just sufficient and actually an asset. But the reality is there have been TONS of athletic freak rushers that fail, and tons of technique guys without the athleticism that thrive.
Besides i dont see the lack of athleticism that everyone else sees. 40's are pointless for edge rushers. I think the 3 cone and short shuttle are more telling.
Barnett: 6.85s 3 cone drill; 4.44s Short Shuttle (a Top Performer in the 3 cone, which shows great short area quickness/acceleration)
Charles Harris: 7.47s 3 cone; 4.42 Short Shuttle; 4.82s 40 (barely better than Barnett; and Barnett was sick during combine)
Tim Williams (whose athleticism is raved about ): 7.36s 3 cone; 4.57 Short Shuttle (both significantly slower than Barnett)
Pernell McPhee: 7.13s Short Shuttle; 4.59 Short Shuttle; 4.93 40; 28.5in Vert; 107in Long (all worse than Barnett; plenty of athleticism to disrupt in the NFL)
I mean - think about it - the 3 cone drill essentially measures how fast you can get to a QB. After tiring you out a little, it tests you quickly bending around an edge, then fully bending in a 180 around another before chasing the QB.
Its NO surprise that Barnett was a top performer at the motion that most closely reflects rushing off the edge. Plenty of athleticism.
3 cone is a joke determining that. Not in same galaxy as getting by a hulking tackle with strong hands. Stanley's 3 cone was terrible but look how well he moves in his blocking. You can practice the 3 cone not wasting motion through it. He isn't in the same galaxy as Tim Williams and Charles Harris
1 minute ago, JoeyFlex5 said:Von miller is a totally different monster. He wins with his get off and speed around the edge, he has developed nicely as far as hands go, but this is apples and oranges. Barnett is stronger and has better and more violent hand usage than von miller has a 6 year veteran(I think 6 years is right). You can rush the passer in multiple ways, there is a lot more to it than a quick get off.
You are correct but it begins with the getoff cuz you can not allow NFL tackles to get their hands on you. Even the chumps are masters at locking rushers up.
7 minutes ago, JoeyFlex5 said:All the reaction time in the world means nothing if the tackle can't get his hips lower than the edge rushers shoulders. That's how Barnett has consistently made his burst a non factor, he throws a swipe and keeps his chest clean and then dips his shoulders to the tackles hip level making him untouchable. Low man wins right? Barnett proves that. A tackle can't block a guy who he can't lay a good set of hands on.
Doesn't have to get below his shoulders. NFL tackles have stronger hands to control. If that were true Von miller would have over 30 sacks a year. But he is stunted to when the Tackle get his hands on him. Take his getoff away and he isn't the same edge rusher by far. Ware can bend very well. And at 35 has a better getoff than Barnett!! Sorry dude it's the one player I don't want ravens to get. Maybe Robinson I don't want as much there at NO.16 overall
There are 7 edge rushers I would take before Barnett. His getoff looks like he is wearing lead shoes. He plays hard and He can bend pretty well. However if any edge rusher allows the bigger tackle reaction time to get his hands on him. Then he is going to have a hard time getting to QB.

It would be cool to do so. This dude is the real deal.
Corey Davis will get drafted top15 maybe top10. His tape is to good. He could be drafted as a BPA by any team even those that don't need a WR. Bengals/Bills could even draft him
1 hour ago, BOLDnPurPnBlacK said:yea they met at the bar... her and a group of her friends were hanging around them (he had rented a private area of the bar) and according to witnesses she had been hanging close to him all night trying to get his attention.
When they went back to the hotel Conley apparently stayed in the lobby for a bit with the group of girls while his friend and the girl he was with went back to the room.
After a bit the "victim" decided to go back to the room with Conley leaving her group of friends.
Then theres a very different story about what occurred once they got to the room but all those accounts are from people who knew Conley personally (except the other girl that was with his friend) so i wont go into those details bc there isnt any objective corroboration as of now.
But once the victim did leave the room, apparently she went to the front desk in the hotel lobby and asked the receptionist to call Conleys room and ask if she could come back up. When she was told no, is when she left for good and filed the report.
All of that apparently is confirmed with video footage and unconnected witnesses. So seems like her story has holes all over the place. i mean why would someone who was just raped ask to go back into the situation. and if she lied about unimportant details ive got to imagine shes lying about more.
But this rape kit should reveal the truth. This happened on like April 9th -- is it normal for rape kit results to take this long? Surprised this is just coming out. Guessing the girl got upset this didnt get media attention and leaked it to TMZ herself once draft week rolled around, before he could go 1st round.
While i have my opinions, im going to with hold judgement on both the victim and Conley until more definitive proof comes out either way.
But if it turns out to be all made up, there should be some course of action for Conley to recoup damages. While rapes go vastly unreported, under prosicuted, and under punished when they are true -- the fact that there currently arent any penalties to those that report false rape accusations is ridiculous. Obviously its very difficult to prove either way which is why there are so many issues surrounding the topic, but when it is confirmed without a doubt that allegations are fabricated -- these people should be prosecuted and the falsely accused should be able to sue. Conley stands to lose millions now unfairly if the claims are false. Its bs.
You know something. These dudes are taught by their agents to avoid situations like this as well as keeping out of all dramatic situations leading to draft. Projected high draft picks are taught to pretty much live indoors until the draft. This moron isn't even drafted yet and he is already out there flashing around. These players are COACHED on avoiding situations like this. Because these dudes have no way of knowing if a girl is in it for the night or plotting financial gain. And high profile players are repeatedly taught this.
Girl lying or not there is no reason for this clown to be in this situation leading up to draft. I mean come on we overlooked Tunsil the top overall player in the draft cuz of a video during his freshman year!! And this dude can't keep out of nightlife leading up to the draft?? What is he going to do after he cashes his check? These dudes are taught to adopt a low profile leading up to draft day. And even after drafted to avoid situations like this. I'm not saying he is guilty but for her not to be allowed back up. Something went on. Not saying rape but some kinda altercation.
It has to be Corey Davis. Even if it means giving up a round3 to move up. The dude can do it all. I don't care about his school and competition. If we don't draft him and he blows up the NFL as a rookie the collateral damage will trash managements rep. A WR that will get better with experience next year as opposed to slower like the over the hill retreads. He can win on every level. He doesn't have as many contested catches as mike Williams because Corey can separate. When he blows it up the fans that wanted to draft him will go ballistic calling for the regime fired. The fans calling for anybody else to be ravens pick will all say it wanted Corey Davis after he blows up the league. and join in the hailstorm totally thrashing management!!
Corey Davis all the way if Available. If he gets by every fan will be so upset by his rookie season!! Reddick a touch overrated at this juncture. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't be to angry if we picked him. But a touch overrated so far. Not the thumper with instincts that Foster is. Not an elite edge rusher. He is somewhat a project edge rusher and ilb. May not be ready week1

52 minutes ago, JoeyFlex5 said:But you gotta gauge the risk. If a guy is a known woman beater, and you have a major history in that regard on your team, you just can't. There is a thing called press, and the ravens don't want to be known to condone domestic violence by employing players convicted of it. After trying to cover up the ray rice scandal they can't afford to do this. And they shouldn't. Guys who do this really don't deserve the chance of a lifetime to make millions playing a game.
For other teams, you decide whether or not it's worth the risk. Doesn't matter if he's an all pro for his first 2 years if he decides to beat up his girlfriend and get put out of the league after. It's like if doctors tell a team that Jonathan Allen won't finish out a rookie contract and could often be inhibited by his arthritis in his shoulder, you don't draft the guy top 5 on the chance that the doctors are wrong, you gauge the risk vs reward and decide if you can afford to miss on that pick when he sits 6 games a year for 4 seasons and then retires. When that happens you can't throw your hands up and act surprised, it was a dumb pick because you knew it would happen. Same applies to bonehead repeat offending woman beaters
That's what I mean. Every situation is different. If a crazy girl calls cops during a heated debate that isn't the same as punching her out and dragging her. I was going to explain later but thanx!!
5 minutes ago, rmw10 said:And a DV history so stop dreaming while you're at it.
DV all u want but if ravens draft a WR b4 him and he is awesome and keeps out of trouble. It will not be a legit excuse if offense struggles and finish 8-8 or 7-9. Can't say well we couldn't draft this all pro or that all pro. If we draft a receiver that sucks and he is great and keeps out of trouble there will be no excuses when offense fails
1 minute ago, rmw10 said:Decent player but tons of off field stuff with Dede. Some rumors that he could go undrafted because of the issues and how bad his interviews were.
Didn't hear bout interviews but that dude is good. Cuz of his probs many are not looking hard at his skills. He is awesome. Can create separation anywhere. Elusive after catch and can highpoint
If we don't get Davis round1. Westbrook would be ideal if he is on the ravens board. He is better than john Ross. If we miss out on Davis I like JuJu Westbrook and Ardarius in rounds 2-3. However I would not hate Ross pick

Duuude everybody here has gone over tape all winter and nobody lauded this players skill sets. I'm critical because I can relate. One of fastest in the county but couldn't cover deep because I couldn't find football and wasn't comfortable with back to throws. And that is like a rythym u have or don't. My friends son JV Southern A.A. One of fastest players but can't find the throw. So he plays safety and LB. the scouts are right his deficiencies don't go away with experience.
I read the Malcolm Butler path to NFL. Again Belichick knew he was special 10 minutes into his initial practice because his skills finding the throws and reacting were elite and couldn't be taught. Belichick asked him after his first practice have you found an apartment yet. He responded no because he wasn't sure he would be in town long. Belichick responded,Oh you are going to be around alright!! And this was a rookie that played small school with an extremely small playbook. But flourished in practice because of his unusual gift to find the throws that can't be taught. Belichick knew it is what set him apart
on a good note he could be a great great SS and zone cornerback!! I mean really good. I kinda favor the zone coverage anyways. Marlon has everything and I mean everything you look for in a zone cornerback that is facing the action. If we play him at SS eventually he could set the standard for the position. His closing speed and tackling is elite. Maybe with all the timing offenses the ravens are going more zone coverage:
