His skillset screams SS. Some of the best safety's of all time were physical cornerback converts. Ronnie Lott, Rod Woodson. He was picked on by better QBs and WRs last year. As a SS he will not have to play to things he isn't any good at
PurpleHorseman replied to BOLDnPurPnBlacK's topic in Ravens Talk
Yes our best pick by far!! I was trying to tell Flex couple days ago how big and strong his legs are. I have to post the URL. But his legs are as big as a 265lb edge rusher. His legs suggest his frame can carry 258 lbs. nice round number. lol same size as Peter Boulware our last true speed rusher was about 6'3 1/2 258lbs.Tim Williams being more explosive than Quinn is saying something!! One of most gifted explosive edge rushers I ever saw coming out. Better raw explosion/bend than Garrett!!
Tim Williams could very realistically be better than Garrett. Crazy he was available there!! Makes Bowser obsolete. Should have picked JuJu there. Then this would be an incredible draft. I don't like Humphrey at cornerback at all. But I like the pick cuz I think when Weddle slows down Humphrey will set the standard for which Strong Safety's are measured

Changing your belief after ravens player picked?? Who are the players you think are the best or fit the best that's left on board?? Or you gonna wait til ravens pick and say he was the BPA . Who do you like best now that's available?? Who are the players you believe are the 10 best available with data you collected?? Not after ravens pick and say well this guy said he was a top 10 player. Who you like now?
PurpleHorseman replied to Davesta's topic in Ravens Talk
Everybody saying Humphrey was BPA. Go to draft forum and list your top 12 players so after picks tonight there will be no debate when anybody says ravens drafted one of their top players.

Good job guys. I see not many members are participating in this. Because then can't say whomever we pick was the bpa. Most members are going to wait until the ravens pick then proclaim he was their Best player ravens could pick. And will help team better than anybody else
PurpleHorseman replied to RayRocks's topic in 2017 NFL Draft
Everybody list your 10 best players in order that will be best players and help ravens the most. Here's everybody's opportunity to say you believe ravens pick was the BPA and best player to help ravens the most. And so everybody can't say ravens pick was the best player after the ravens picked him. Who are your top 10 players next 2rounds. If you don't say it now then nobody should believe you when you say it after we pick him
PurpleHorseman replied to Davesta's topic in Ravens Talk
Dude some people here are going to say anybody ravens picked was the BPA and attempt to justify it. Every player we pick was the best possible pick ravens could make. It's actually funny
PurpleHorseman replied to Davesta's topic in Ravens Talk
Yes because Ozzie drafted him. Not everybody has the biasedness for Bama. Most teams after us probably liked different cornerbacks. If we didn't draft him can't say he would of been next cornerback drafted. I have read posts here calling about 5 different cornerbacks the best in the draft. Humphrey isn't one of those cornerbacks.
Anybody saying he was BPA or best cornerback show some proof everybody you have Humphrey so high on your board. After ravens draft him everybody goes on an Easter egg hunt looking for somebody calling Humphrey a top10 pick. Show us anybody posting about that before last night. Show us a mock on this board with him the No.2 cornerback taken.
PurpleHorseman replied to Davesta's topic in Ravens Talk
Prisco said scouts saw serious deficiencies. And when he talked to his Bama mates younger cornerbacks outplayed him. And QBs actually picked on him because the younger cornerbacks were better in deep coverage. And that is fact. He gave up 19 ypc and was picked on after the younger guys held up better in coverage. GMs send out smoke screens all the time. But the Bama coaches do not have a reason to. One of those guys put Corey Davis late round1!! Since his college coaches see the action close up I'm going with what those sources said about Humphrey.
it is mind boggling how many people talking themselves into Humphrey was BPA. These same people would be saying same thing if Howard Allen Njoku Harris Watt were the pick. Only bird22 can honestly say that. Nobody else put Humphrey over any of those players until the ravens drafted him. Some people on this board are so full of it
PurpleHorseman replied to Davesta's topic in Ravens Talk
Not a good challenge here!! Find one player better than a cornerback that can't play with his back to the football??It is very likely several cornerbacks drafted after him in rounds 2-3 or later will outplay him. Much less players from different positions. And I don't care the position. TE whatever a difference maker is a difference maker on offense. We don't have a clear starter at TE much less a difference maker. TE's aren't ready year one but Humphrey is a project as well. For those of you that believe he can get far better with his back to the play. You people aren't scared to say that cuz you all won't own up to it on RSR or wherever using a different name. One of those everybody lauding the pick then if he busts nobody ever liked the pick to begin with. He could become the best SS in the league but as a cornerback several drafted after him will outplay him.
Look everybody not saying I hate the pick. I'm very excited about what kinda Strong Safety he will become!! Best in the league is my guess. But as a cornerback he scouts found serious deficiencies in coverage and said younger Bama cornerbacks outplayed him. And some QBs actually picked on him after trying the underclassmen who were far better in coverage intermediate and deep. I like the pick I don't love the pick cuz I preferred an offensive difference maker. He is an incredible specimen. I think he will be a great great player but not as cornerback.
PurpleHorseman replied to Davesta's topic in Ravens Talk
Seriously?? Tell that to the WRs that averaged nearly 20 ypc on Marlon Humphrey
I don't talk myself into liking players more because we drafted them. A player is what he is.
PurpleHorseman replied to Davesta's topic in Ravens Talk
Ravens pick pick 16 in round2 so many of the top players left will be drafted. There was no hoping a cornerback falls. Several are going to be there in round2 and 3. Matter of fact so many cornerbacks that several of the ones drafted after Humphrey will likely outplay him. Especially with his issues finding the football. His stock has plummeted lately because of it. His size twitch burst was coveted by the scouts. But when his tape was more closely examined his major issues jumped out of the screen. And those don't go away. It can get better a touch but not by much.
Ravens got better with ints not because players learned to play with their back to the ball but we brought in tavon young and Eric Weddle. And a coverage linebacker stepped up. Ravens need an edge rusher so that Humphrey isn't roasted while trying to cover all day with his back to the ball. We need a WR and serious offensive line help.
As for Humphrey's draft stock. Prisco said he talked with his Bama sources. And his deficiencies finding throws is very legit. And the younger cornerbacks at Bama were outplaying him because of it. That is a fact. However doesn't mean he is totally useless. He can play tampa2 and SS. Could eventually become the best SS.
PurpleHorseman replied to Davesta's topic in Ravens Talk
Duuude everybody here has gone over tape all winter and nobody lauded this players skill sets. I'm critical because I can relate. One of fastest in the county but couldn't cover deep because I couldn't find football and wasn't comfortable with back to throws. And that is like a rythym u have or don't. My friends son JV Southern A.A. One of fastest players but can't find the throw. So he plays safety and LB. the scouts are right his deficiencies don't go away with experience.
I read the Malcolm Butler path to NFL. Again Belichick knew he was special 10 minutes into his initial practice because his skills finding the throws and reacting were elite and couldn't be taught. Belichick asked him after his first practice have you found an apartment yet. He responded no because he wasn't sure he would be in town long. Belichick responded,Oh you are going to be around alright!! And this was a rookie that played small school with an extremely small playbook. But flourished in practice because of his unusual gift to find the throws that can't be taught. Belichick knew it is what set him apart
on a good note he could be a great great SS and zone cornerback!! I mean really good. I kinda favor the zone coverage anyways. Marlon has everything and I mean everything you look for in a zone cornerback that is facing the action. If we play him at SS eventually he could set the standard for the position. His closing speed and tackling is elite. Maybe with all the timing offenses the ravens are going more zone coverage:
PurpleHorseman replied to Davesta's topic in Ravens Talk
Once again a player drafted moves up on everybody's board after the ravens pick him. Lmao. Trouble finding the throws doesn't go away with experience. It is a like a rythym you have or don't.
PurpleHorseman replied to Davesta's topic in Ravens Talk
His stock nosedived Prisco said because when his tape was broken down he struggles with his back to ball. And when push came to shove the younger cornerbacks we're outplaying him because of it. He said his sources at Bama confirmed it
PurpleHorseman replied to Davesta's topic in Ravens Talk
The scouting report is correct. When a player has trouble locating football much less getting his eyes around to anticipate and break it usually doesn't go away. That is something you can or can't do unfortunately for him. It's what makes Malcolm Butler so great. Gets his eyes around, anticipates finds and breaks on throws. His skills at doing that somehow helped tom Brady leapfrog Montana as the best QB of the last 25 yrs or so. Marlon can't do that and probably never will. Even his "Highlights" he sees the ball last second and scrambles to try and break it up. In his highlights anyways he was more less lucky cuz the WR dropped it and he was able to get in the way enough to cause a bobble and drop.
Not sure how our inept management could possibly have him BPA!! It is mind boggling. Does management not know what the great cornerbacks are?? What makes them so great?? Marlon could maybe excel in cover2 and any variety of zone coverage. Where he faces the QB and action and can use his elite closing burst, striking and tackling. Better yet with his size and physicality he could eventually be a great Safety. Especially if he totally bombs at cornerback it will force a move to safety. Where he could be really special!!
