  1. Tbh, I didn't see too much of Renner during my time at camp. I can say that Schaub looks really, really bad. He won't be cut because of his contract and experience, but at this point you can't get much worse than what I seen from Schaub. I'm honestly confused as to how a pro powler regressed so much. Just in all things in being a quarterback. I remember vividly Saturday that Schaub took the snap and immediately felt pressure and instead of using his footwork.. he like.. one-leg hopped forward into the pocket his back foot never came down and he threw the football with an extremely high baseball pitch release to his outlet receiver which may have been 5 yards out and the ball nosed first into the ground.

You can take that how you will, but that was an extreme face-palm moment for me.

Ouch.  I just had a Boller flashback.

  2. Pretty frustrated by this, really tough break for a promising young talent.  At what point is it appropriate to start questioning this coaching staff's ability to balance intensity with safety?  I know we're supposedly the "hardest training camp" but man, if you don't have your guys when it counts (the regular and postseason) then you're doing something wrong.

  3. FWIW this is what Clifton Brown wrote about Brown after Day 2 of camp:

"Wide receiver Marlon Brown had a strong day of practice, getting open consistently. This is Brown’s third season, and he had seven touchdowns as a rookie in 2013. The addition of Steve Smith last season pushed Brown into the background. He looks hungry to reemerge with a bigger role."

  4. Yep, I'll echo the "great article" sentiment. I appreciate the honest way it was written and the positive attitude Trestman has developed in the face of adversity. In fact, that makes him very Raven-like in philosophy. Get knocked down you learn from it, pick yourself back up, and come out swinging again (only better).

Here's to hoping he has finally found a home where he thrives long-term.

  5. He's going to drop passes.  Everyone does.  I remember Steve Smith dropping some last year.  It's how he responds that will tell the story.  OTA's have already done a lot to alleviate major concerns.  "Once the pads are on" applies yet again (as it does with everyone).  He's getting NFL caliber coaching and everyone is doing everything to help him succeed, and he seems to be responding.  So yeah, I'm excited about Breshad and remaining positive long term.

  6. I say stop all the positive reports on Trestman and hype up one of our young coaches. lol I say that only because I don't won't another one and done situation. One of the reasons I really supported the Trestman selection was because I thought his HC opportunities would be dried up and he'd be a long term solution for us. However, people love to pick over Ravens coaches so we'll see.

I've been saying for years, put Flacco in a offense that can grow around him for at least 3 years and watch him dominate the NFL. Well now, you have two young impressive RBs in LT and Buck, 3 young TEs in Maxx, Crocket and Boyle, some good young talent on the oline and a host of young WRs who seem to love playing "for" Flacco. The most important thing is the offensive system. I would hope Trestman can stay around for a while and build that same relationship with Flacco that Moore had with Peyton or that Belicheck has with Brady. Baltimore talks about it often, but I don't think the NFL has taken notice to how much change Flacco has had to deal with in his career and how much continuity means to the QB position.

Really great post!  Couldn't agree more about Joe and the change he's dealt with (and thrived in throughout).  Doesn't get much more radical than firing your OC right before your SB run.

  7. Our TE group seems like a very cool blue collar group.  I'm as impressed with Gillmore and Boyle as I am with Wiliams.  I especially liked how Boyle described his "model" player to be Heath Miller.  I may hate the Steelers, but I respect that guy's game a ton.

*Edited for dreaded misspelling of Gillmore's name the first time around :D

  8. It's early but Waller is impressive.  First off, he's a physical specimen at 6'6".  Second off he sees himself right there at Breshad's level.  Thirdly he appears to be a mature, intelligent young man which puts him ahead of a lot of much higher draft picks over the years.

OT - Buck Allen is an awesome addition

  9. LB CJ Mosley: A

    DE/DT Timmy Jernigan: B+

    FS Terrence Brooks: A+

    TE Crockett Gillmore: C

    DE Brent Urban: C+

    RB Lorenzo Taliaferro: D+

    OG/C John Urschel: B-

    QB Keith Wenning: C

    WR Michael Campanaro: A-

Good start. Lackluster middle. Solid ending.)

Feel free to agree/disagree/rip me a new one. God knows it wouldn't be the first time people who vehemently disagreed with anything I said.

Great post, I remember your disappointment with the Torrey Smith pick as well as you stepping up to eat crow, lol.  I have to say you pretty much nailed it with respect to the picks and how I feel about them.  I may be even less of an Urban fan than you, however.  How many times do coaches and/or scouts fall in love with "body types".  I'm kind of sick of projects becasue they rarely work out.  The Taliaferro pick is my second most concerning only because what I've seen doesn't look like an explosive NFL RB, not even close.  I can appreciate a guy who can pass block, however, so I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

*Edit - oh, and I'm actually a bigger fan of the Gillmore pick than most folks out here.  I can see Joe liking him as an option in the RZ.

  10. Wow, seriously impressed by the international contingent of fans I never knew we had!! :)

My front door is 53.8 miles from M&T Bank Stadium. York, PA - home of many hated Steeler fans. A lot of bandwagoners. I think the wives bother more than the men, LOL.

    Go Ravens!! :baltimore-ravens:

Also a lifetime Oriole fan, as hard as that is to admit these days.
