Does any other GM in the NFL have such an infatuation with a college more than Ozzie with Alabama?
I'm begging to get tired of it. I feel like he has blinders on.
Alabama is the best college football program going and I say this as an Notre Dame fan. If recent memory, every year the team competes for the National Title Saban is the best at recruiting top talent at every position and the organization is 2nd to none at developing that talent at every position. I am not an Ozzie apologist. Obviously he didn't draft the player you wanted but it seems like maybe you are the one with the blinders on.
Does anybody ever do a postmortem on these mock drafts to evaluate how good Kiper, McShay and others are at predicting draft placement? I think ESPN is up to mock draft 127.0
Seriously? Did Mike Wallace not see the dropped passes, the poor route running, the stupid mistakes and not to mention, no one, NO ONE stepping up and taking over a game. Like Odell Becham did, like Antonio Brown did and so on and so on.
Yea terpmaniac not everyone can have a top 5 WR in this league like Antonio Brown or Odell Beckham. So if you are going to be upset until we get one than you may have to wait a while. Do you think Mike Wallace is going to say that that our receivers are terrible, and that they suck at running routes, and drop balls to often when a member of the media asks him what he things?? We have never had a top 5 WR. In there last few SB appearances NE has not had a top 5 WR, Seattle has not had a top 5 WR in its appearances. Neither Odell Beckham or Antonio Brown have won a Superbowl. And in fact neither of them has gotten close.
Thank you. Not to mention that, for whatever reason, the Ravens have a horrible track record at evaluating and drafting wide receivers. Yet are great at picking up veterans with gas left in the tank and getting the most out of them. I have this life size picture of drafting this good looking kid from the MAC conference, and watching him struggle to get open against NFL level defensive backs and then 3 years from now trading comments like what ever to happened that kid we drafted at 16 in 2017? What was his name davies, Davis...?
Remember, the new coach doesn't play on the field. Fourth and one at the other teams one yard line with our O line and running backs??? We all know what happens. We had better draft another Jim Brown real soon or Mornhinweg with just continue to call one bad play or another.
Inability to get a yard when you really need it is a hallmark of the West Coast Offense and the Zone Blocking Scheme. The former doesn't typically commit to the run, and will more likely rely on a quick pass - it has been a hallmark of the Andy Reid offenses, which Harbs is most familiar with. I'm generally a fan of zone blocking in the right scheme, but it is a very reactive, east-west approach: O-lineman steps in a direction, and doesn't really know who he is going to block until the defense slants, bulls, or stunts.
Our offense is a hybrid of West Coast and Zone Blocking. That yard will continue to be hard to come by. That's why we need a bigger center. When in doubt, QB sneak and pray.
Seems the Ravens have mastered the forward pass behind the line of scrimmage that loses yardage. The good news for Joe is that it pads his pass completion stats.
No, No and No. Hint Ezekiel Elliot had a great year. The Ravens backs would have had much more productive years behind the same line. Continue to build an All Pro line and reap the benefits of All Pro running backs. Oh and stop dialing up forward passes completed BEHIND the line of scrimmage.
"You want him to play like Big Ben or Br*dy? They both have sucked so far."
You can't be for real!
Do you know who the QB are going to be in the AFC championship game are going to be? They only have 6 Super Bowls wins between them.
Wake up!! Flacco is the one that sucks. All Ravens SB have been won by defence.Br*dy threw 2 interceptions and had a 68.6 rating last weekend. So far, in 2 playoff games, Ben has attempted 49 passes, 3 of which were intercepted. Both were totally bailed out by their playmakers. Joe would have been roasted alive for the play we've seen from them.
Roasted with dillweed and peppers.
Not only is Joe not a media darling but many display antipathy toward him. It's similar to high school and they're the sycophants who want to hang out with the cool kids (Brady, Peyton, Ben et.al.) and hope to curry favor by deriding the nerds on the school ground.
Hey, the stats don't lie. Joe is a below average QB who occasionally has a good game or two strung together. We keep wishing otherwise but wishing doesn't fix the problem. I could have the best coaches on earth but I will never be an NFL quarterback. The best offensive coaches are that because they have Brady, Manning, Rogers, Brees and now Prescott. I think the players make the coaches more than the coaches make the players. Coaching is for discipline, recognizing talent, kicking or going for it, scheme, but the players have to make the plays.
Good point about coaches and players. Top tier QB's have high IQs which is why Joe will never be top tier. But I wouldn't call him below average. He has the athletic ability and size but the light burns weak behind them eyes. He is, however, grossly overpaid for a better than average QB.with a low IQ and a savy Agent. Ravens Front Office exhibits a habit of making bad decisions regarding the QB after winning Superbowl's.
As far as Suggs and SSS playing late in the game, there are incentives in every contract for snaps, tackles, sacks, hits on QB, INTs, catches, etc... You can't protect a player from himself when he is out there trying to make money. If you tell them to sit down it looks like the organization is trying to cheat them out of a few bucks. Especially in a game when both sides were playing less than hard towards the end. Besides, the article says Suggs is blowing up Brandon Albert when in reality he actually just beat a tight end (#80).
The article says Suggs Blew BY a tight end, which is saying some at the end of a game against a smaller faster opponent.
I don't know when Joe lost his deep ball, but that is the story that should be getting written. Perriman was not at fault on that drop. We have the fastest WRs we've had since Torrey/Jacoby but the ball just isn't getting to them in space. I love Joe, his 2012 playoff run was legendary, but it's 2016 and our offense isn't moving the ball even though everyone has such positive things to say about our skill position players. SSS might be the best receiver over 35 in league history, Wallace is having a resurgent year, Pitta is healthy and contributing, West has been running decently and Dixon is our back of the future. Unless someone wants to tell me that the o-line is the reason why our offense is having so many problems (a conversation I would definitely entertain) I think it's time we Ravens fans took an objective look at our franchise QB. He is a streaky QB whose average play is very pedestrian, but he will play better in the clutch than he will in garbage time. The defense is going to have to take us to the playoffs, and then we'll have to hope Joe turns it on in January like he always does. I'm just frustrated we're criticizing a 1st year receiver when it is clear to everyone outside of Baltimore that our QB is having a bad year.
Valid points mendii. It is like Joe is a sleep walker through the regular season and only wakes up if the defense gets the team to the playoffs. I for one am suffering from post-purchase cognitive dissonance over Joe. He got his pay day and now he needs to wake up and help the defense by outscoring the opposition by comfortable margins most weeks and stop playing to the level of his competition. Given the level our competition to date a near .500 record is unacceptable especially considering the second half of our schedule.
This article is pathetic. I know that the Opie Optimists need to cling to any thread of hope but the Ravens offense just isn't a playoff caliber offense and the defense is missing the fire and confidence of RL leader on the field. They're good but not good enough to overcome this score challenged offense. To Whobilly's point, win out and the rest will take care of itself. Crossing fingers is for losers.
With all the talk about the O-line issues, It might help, for next season and the balance of Flacco's career if they found a young, smart, offensive coordinator who might just stick around for a few years. . Not making excuses for Flacco's lackluster performance of late but this game of musical chairs at OC is not constructive for consistency. Turning the position into a rehab program for failed head coaches is an alarming trend in the NFL for younger smarter up and coming future head coaches. They are out there they just need an opportunity.
You don't have to root for any team if you take care of business yourself.
Now that is the salient point. Thank you.
Interesting that when the Patriots win five or six games every year in their division nobody really brings up the fact how awful those teams have been for the most part over the last 10 to 15 years.
Believe me I do!!
As do I but to whobilly's point you rarely hear the talking heads on the networks point out that the Pat's have had nearly two decades of 6 inter-divisional walkover victories. They start every season essentially 6-0. So the network media is full of "Yeah But" over the Ravens 3-0 start because of apparent opponent mediocrity. I feel his pain.
As much as I'd love to see Doom out there, I really appreciate the chance for some younger players to get some valuable game reps. Doom got over worked last season when Suggs went down, so these first few games kinda help keep him fresh for the long season. The current depth also makes this much less of an issue.
Stanley sitting out seems like a precautionary move more than anything, especially if you read his attitude towards playing Sunday.
Jacksonville is a bit of a hard team to read. They have a talented roster on paper, no arguing that. What team shows up on game day is a hit and miss affair. Some weeks they look in sync and run like a well tuned machine. Other weeks they look like a turkey running around without it's head. Prepare and expect their best and do not let them build up momentum and get the fans into it, like in Cleveland.
They are a booby trap for the Ravens. They seem to go into playoff mode for Raven Games. We are 2 wins and 3 losses against them since 2005.
You are right the Ravens need to prepare and expect the jaguars best. Their schedule is only going to get harder and harder but they can't look past the jags.
I am pretty much over the B Perriman thing, If he plays I hope he can make an impact, if he doesn't , then we have plenty of playmakers at WR.
I couldn't agree more. Move along and develop talent on the bench. Chris Moore is looking great When the day comes BP will get his chance to make an impact. He needs to be completely healthy and more important fear of injury has to be cleared from his mind.
Anybody ever notice that when you have an injury, you can actually hurt something else by favoring the original injury? Not sayin' that's what's happening, but who knows. It was the guy's first NFL action. He played 20 snaps. Could have tightened up a little. If you've ever been an athlete, you know these things happen. I'm just hoping that it's the case. Hang Tough Breshad! We know the impact you can have on this team.
With due respect mom, we do not know the impact which is the problem.
I am glad we got the Win, relief. You are never going to be perfect.
That being said, I have yet to see Trestman establish the run. Of course, that takes a good run blocking scheme. Give the Bills credit, their D line is good, but it is a commitment to running the football.
Also, I didnt see Trestman help Joe out with screens, draws, play action to offset the aggressivenes of the Bills.
The middle of the field was open all day. Why no crossing routes? You run them to help Joe.
3rd down routes falling short of the markers, why? Find the stick, then turn around, not 1 yard shy.
Only once did I see a reciever on a comeback route to help Joe while under duress, Aiken. Its like you want to send everybody deep during obvious blitzing downs.
I would have liked to see a quick handoff to Juice on 3rd and short once in awhile.
I mentioned earlier we should have a speed package, with Wallace, Aiken, and Moore all in at the same time. Just dont sent them all deep, use at least one on a crossing route please! This will be a matchup nightmare for teams.
I agree with you. We are too loaded with talent to be scoring only 13 points in home games. Trestman is our problem. I have a brother who lives in Chicagoland. Big Bears fan. Sent me a condolence card when he heard the Ravens picked him up as OC.

Before we get too hard on ownership and management we should take a moment and give thanks we are not the Chicago Bears
