Every team that plays the Ravens knows we'll eventually drop into the "prevent" or soft zone defense, 2 deep safeties with the corners playing 10+ yards deep and rushing the front 3 or 4 like we did in Dallas. It usually occurs late in the 3rd quarter especially if we have a lead. A good offensive coordinator sees this and sets up the QB to throw for the 8-12 yard completions allowed by our secondary. Most 6-8 yard throws gain 10 or more because the coverage plays so far off. They can go no huddle even because the defense is so predictable and it wears us down faster. If we throw a curve and blitz, the QB just throws it away knowing we'll go right back on the next play. They march down the field 10 yards at a time and score. Dallas did it, Oakland did it, Pittsburgh did it and almost came back (and has done it repeatedly in the past to steal close games) and the 49ers used it to nearly win the SB. It's no secret, it happens almost every game. Until we fix that, good teams will use it to beat us in close games. My question is why do we continue this practice if it doesn't work which it clearly doesn't? If your going to loose anyway, why not stay aggressive and play tighter coverage?
