Wow. Not happy. Will not be engaging on FB or any other platforms because it doesnt allow for actual discussion. Just one or two lines of unsubstantiated, emotional garbage or "hot takes." Plus, i dont want to be bombarded with advertising while discussing the Ravens... But, i guess you cant really advertise on here and capitalize on the "engagement" so why bother. Im being unreasonable, but i dont care.

Wow. As a fan who left Baltimore in 2003 and found this community I can't say enough about how upsetting this is. Facebook has some of the worst 'Raven' fans.

Letting Steve be Steve is a great way to close the boards out, in my opinion.

WE only signed him because Ozzie thought his first name was "Bama"

It is a mistaken notion to automatically presume that the judgment behind the decision is sound simply because the decision was made. It essentially implies that there are no miscalculated decisions, which is obviously far from the truth. The most likely explanation behind the shutdown is that it’s a cost-cutting measure that can now be written off under the guise of an expected natural progression of migrating conversations to the more current and popular social media platforms, i.e. Facebook and Twitter, an unspoken declaration of forums being an outdated means of discussions. If this is the expectation, then we have been woefully misread as a demographic. As a long-standing member on this forum, I can personally attest to the fact that I have zero interest in migrating my sports conversations to the wholly unmoderated platforms that are the physical manifestation of thousands of people standing in a single room and talking at the same time. I certainly can’t speak for everyone, but I would assume that this would be less than ideal for a sizable portion of other seasoned members. I’m on multiple social media sites, have been and will be. From personal experience, I can tell you that the vast majority of the football discussions that occur in the comments are a barren wasteland of misinformation, uninformed opinions, and arguments which turn into poo-flinging contest and personal insults that immediately stream away from the main topics of discussion. This is mostly because a great deal of sports fans are relatively casual observers, thus the bar set for general insight is significantly lower. Couple that with the lack of repercussions for trolling or steering off-course, and in reality, the aforementioned result no longer comes as a surprise. And ironically enough, although we do debate on other platforms under our real names and profiles, the fact that we are unlikely to see the same faces in other discussions considering the infinitely-deeper pool of participants makes the ordeal less personal in comparison. The entire reason of most members joining forums is because they have a vested interest in the details of the sport that is generally greater than that of a casual observer. It has a sense of community where there are long-term residents, so you can choose whom you gravitate towards and whom you gravitate away from. And there are rules for everyone to abide by that ensure that the overall sense of integrity is protected, that this remains a place for intelligent discussions. That doesn’t mean that you won’t see head-scratching concepts or ill-informed ideas tossed around. But it’s still a far more ideal experience than that of the other platforms. These are the points being missed in the migration. Instead, it's treated that if we like X, we must like Y. What’s being lost on whomever is pulling the plug is that most members will either cease to hold their discussions on the internet, migrate to another forum, or go through a progression from the first to the second. It is of no surprise that other forums were immediately explored once the news broke. And I personally hope to see the familiar faces there.

In three days hence, these doors will close No longer here will we find repose Sweet farewell to all members here Each in their way are held dear When other forum doors we knock We will remain this Ravens’ Flock So travel safe and well my friends Sadly all good things do meet their ends I’ll close with a line we’ve all heard before, “Quote the Raven, Nevermore”

I'm a member there as well, but it doesnt have the same feel as this community. I like this group.

I feel the same about them. Some strong language but not as bad as in their game threads: http://www.steelersuniverse.com/forums/showthread.php/27021-Ravens

I mean, this all has to be Flacco's fault, right? That massive contract he signed will no longer allow the team to afford to keep the boards up and running. Reason #9569 we should trade him.
  10. 12 points
The forums are the only redeeming quality of this garbage site. Their only reason is that they feel they have better avenues for this same type of discussion. But in reality those avenues are large crowds of idiots who think cutting flacco and hiring ray Lewis to coach is the solution to everything. We have real football talk here, they want us to rant and rave with the village idiots. There is no valid reason here.

Hey guys, I know coming from someone with nearly no posts this seems strange, but I have been a daily reader of these forums dating back to 2011 and I've had a few different accounts here and there. I am currently a studying graphic designer, and me and my friend are currently producing a new forums page and I would appreciate it if you guys could check it out at launch, I know you will love it. I am working hard to duplicate it as close to these forums as possible, but adding a small point of my personal touch. I would hate to see this community fall apart, ranging from Biolizzard, to sami, and even wizards doomsday posts, I've learned to love this community just as much as my ravens. I don't want to deal with clueless Facebook fans, and you guys sure know your stuff. The launch date of the new forum will be May 5th. Apologies for the time, but as a student I'm extremely busy with finals this week. If you have any feedback or suggestions please just email me: forums@purpleflock.com ; this will be a well run and developed community. I only share this now to spread the word before the boards close. This community doesn't have to die. It will take some time to get to full potential, but I can ensure you a safe and efficient board with lots of room to grow. Later down the line (after launch and growth), I would love to write some articles myself, along with having those wiling and capable submit their own articles for use! Thanks for the read and check us at https://purpleflock.com !!

I'm seriously gonna miss this every year. It is my favorite waste of time and now it's gonna be gone
  14. 9 points
I certainly read it. @-Truth- is a very good writer and makes his case and organizes his thoughts well. Maybe it's too long for the average social media member to read, but definitely NOT too long for the knowledgeable Ravens fan from br.com.

Ya'll already know this is one of my prospect crushes this year, so I'm pumped! A versatile, athletic piece that should be able to play all over our LB group. Consider me the president of the fan club!

^^^^ this is why I'm gonna miss this place. As a guy who never played, I've learned so much here from guys like @The Raven and @-Truth-, and @RavensFanMania. I would've never been able to form a solid opinion on prospects like Siragusa without people like this. Granted I'm at a disadvantage as I've never played the game competitively. But still. Damn this place for closing.

Not that you know the answer to this or anything... but if the boards are considered to be riddled with trolls and poor conversation, then why allow the absolute worst part of the boards to continue running? The news article comment sections are worse than world chat on a world of Warcraft private server. They're pure cancer

Maybe I'm alone here but I haven't lost any respect for the Ravens but rather their media team who decided this. It's not like Steve, Ozzie and John decided to close this forum after their meeting in FL. This is a Media Department decision likely from the team deciding they want to shift focus to more popular avenues. I can't blame them but I do personally disagree with their stance and think it's a poor decision to remove the forums rather than keep them at a limited capacity. I think it comes back to the promotions the team runs through its social media avenues, such as the contest to guess the 53, or other stuff like that. It's really minor in my opinion but who knows what kind of resources go into this place. I just don't understand why you'd want to take away a means fans use to connect. That seems foolish.

Regardless of the reasons for closing, suggesting the idea that boards like this can be replaced by Facebook, Twitter, etc. is ridiculous and demeaning to those that have shared knowledge and opinions here for the past 10 years. And while most don't post two or more lengthy paragraphs, I would venture a guess that most "average" members do read them when they are worth reading. That type of info exchange ain't happening on the popular social media outlets. I am and always will be a die hard fan of the Ravens football team, but I have to say I've lost a lot of respect for this organization to make such a short sighted decision in shutting down the BR.com message boards.

I am a pretty open guy, there is not a lot I have not revealed here. Not sure what would be interesting.... Perhaps this.... In my teen years ( the mid-late 80's ) ( NINETEEN eighties that is ) I did that BMX freestyle stuff. I was actually very good. Yup. That is me.

Watched more film, his Louisville game was beautiful despite barely recording a stat. I've never seen a qb break down and extend so many times in one game because a LINEBACKER took away multiple reads. His zone awareness was brilliant. He was crossing the field, showing blitz then dropping, standing deep and surveying before bringing a blitz. He obviously understands the concept of baiting and disguising. He feels defenders moving behind him and very fluidly rolls around with them, he's got extremely light and quick feet. as an edge rusher, he's gotta learn to finish. He gets reckless and allows himself to get totally eliminated, he either breaks down his technique and lets the blocker latch on last second because he went for the sack before disengaging, or he just trips himself up. You can see him getting the upper hand early and showing some great footwork along with some decent but inconsistent handwork, he shows some competence as a rusher but always fails to finish it seems, he's gotta settle down when he gets to that finishing move at the end of his rush and finish disengaging. I don't know if he's a ILB in a 34, I like how he moves in space, he would be amazing at covering between the hash and flats between the LOS and 20 yard mark, yes he is athletic enough to zone drop to disrupt the timing and then stick a receiver 20+ yards downfield. He is like an extra db who will be very disruptive as a pass rusher

You dont want DGB. All that was ever attractive was his size/speed but he plays slower than his measurement and plays much smaller. I live in Philly and watch all their games and by the end of the season guys like Bryce Treggs were playing over him. Who's Bryce Treggs you ask? Exactly.

Everyone just come over to boardhost with the rest of us. It may not look as flashy as it does here, but we will make it work.

Not sure I see twill starting at strong side while bowser starts at ilb. Bowser strikes me as much more the starting OLB who moves in a lot, rather than starting ilb who moves out. But I'm splitting hairs here. This should be the best defense in the league, there is no reason not to think so and no excuses for us being any less than top 3, no excuses for blown leads either. This should be a championship defense, we need to just hope we work out some stuff with free agents and camp cuts for offense. Im very excited about this Team. This defense should look a lot like denvers SB defense

billion dollar company cant afford official team forum. guess we finally have some money to get that high priced receiver in FA. seriously wonder who where those geniuses who made this decision. usually companies cherish/reward those who are loyal , rather then tell them to piss off and find somewhere else cause they aint worth the cost.

Wow, so you're sustaining the part of the site absent of real discourse, while eliminating the only place discussion occurs? Good thinking. Thanks for your contribution to the dumbing down of society.

Since the announcement about closing the message I have sent three messages on Contact Us and received nothing in return. I did call the Ravens' office twice and did receive a return call. I was told the reason for closing the boards was the dramatic drop in usage. I am a late comer to the boards but I will miss them.

Yes. please. everyone join. weve already got some 130 or more registered posters... if we build it they will come. And keep in mind, i fully intend for that to be just a temporary home. It ended up being a much bigger project than i initially thought, but im in the works of creating a fully contained, privately hosted, scaleable, professionally designed, and highly customizable new home for us. Complete with community forum, and eventually a front end for user contributed articles, news, media content, etc... My goal is to have that up and running by the beginning of the regular season.
