How many would join if I create a message board/forum for us to migrate to?
  2. 35 points
Wow. Not happy. Will not be engaging on FB or any other platforms because it doesnt allow for actual discussion. Just one or two lines of unsubstantiated, emotional garbage or "hot takes." Plus, i dont want to be bombarded with advertising while discussing the Ravens... But, i guess you cant really advertise on here and capitalize on the "engagement" so why bother. Im being unreasonable, but i dont care.
  3. 29 points
Wow. As a fan who left Baltimore in 2003 and found this community I can't say enough about how upsetting this is. Facebook has some of the worst 'Raven' fans.
  4. 17 points
"If you are not already engaging us and other members of the Ravens Flock on our Facebook page, Instagram account, through Twitter or Snapchat, we invite you to follow us on those channels and continue to participate in our social communities." Go see the freakout on FB about the Jernigan trade and you'll realize how much more stupid shutting down this message board is. This is about as close as engaging in the ways they want us to as they will get. By closing the boards, your shutting down THE major social community you have. Then the draft will come and it will be worse because instead of engaging in football talk about the draft picks, it will be random comments one after the other without any football talk at all. While having all the social media is great, shutting down one form of a community(message board) and having one less way to communicate with fans is terrible. You should be looking at ADDING more ways to communicate and interact with fans, not removing ways.

Man, some of y'all really support every single thing this FO does. It's okay to disagree with a move and still be a fan.

So so sorry to learn of this. It has been a lot of fun for the last many years and I will miss some of the characters I have looked forward to hearing from in the game threads. It is especially appreciated as someone who lived a good number of years in Baltimore and now lives several states away. I may be in New England, but I will never cheer for those Patriots. I will miss a lot of my Ravens friends. Peace and blessings to all!

What's ironic is Sami raved about Davis after we drafted him so I guess the Great Sami messed up, too.

My favorite comment on the trade so far, and it's from a Steelers' fan: My only reaction to this is, "dear god what new defensive lineman do they have hiding on their bench now". I don't believe its Carl Davis, but i dont believe they will ever run out.

    Last day exposé? I'm in.
  15. 6 points
This. He did nothing in the last four games. All of his sacks came in the first half of the season.
  16. 6 points
I have to disagree. Jernigan was penalty prone and inconsistent as all hell. There's no guarantee he was going to be some stud in his contract year, and no guarantee we were going to get a decent comp pick after he left. This big of a move up in a draft that's loaded at positions we need is a good deal.

I really hope these boards closing will give us all the time we desperately need to add 15-20 pounds of lean muscle.

Well after my April fools mock I figured I'd put out something serious. Round One: Forrest Lamp, OG. Forrest Lamp is as good of a guard prospect as I've scouted. With reports coming out that we are considering moving Lewis to RT(or C, but honestly I'd rather have him at RT) I think Lamp is on our board, and he projects best at guard. Stanley gets some help on the left side of the line, meanwhile we get a potential future all pro at guard. Not a bad get at all even if I'd rather have an edge rusher. I could also see us draftin Ramcyzk. Either way I'd be happy. Round Two: Ryan Anderson, Edge, Alabama I hate missing out on an edge rusher in the first round, but this class is so loaded at the position that we can actually afford to do this. Anderson is a jack of all trades, master of none. Meaning he fits our defense like a glove. An elite pass rusher? Hell no. Good successor to Suggs? Potentially. He could easily become a guy who gets 10+ sacks a year given his football IQ and athleticism. I like his game a lot and he's tailor made for the defense. Remember, our defense fared very well last year without having a legit #1 guy. We get a guy in Anderson who could become a #1 guy, and he's an immediate upgrade. It's a pick that makes sense. Round 3: Pat Elflein, C As far as NFL draft prospects go, you can't go wrong with Pat Elflein at Center. He has problems, some in which are bad, but overall given his high football IQ and obvious mean streak, at worst he could be a decent starting center at the NFL level. He could be a plug and play player from day one, and fits the mold that we are looking for along the offensive line. Round Three Comp: Jake Butt, TE Anyone who knows me at all knows I love Jake Butt and I cannot lie(you other brothers can't deny). He's a literal tight end, his last name is butt. But even with his injury, I see him developing into a very good pro. I know people will be claimoring for a WR, but Butt has no weakness in his game other than his average athleticsm. But regardless of which he's still good enough after the catch and a good blocker. Since we are moving Boyle to FB, and I don't trust Pitta, Waller, or Watson, and Crockett at all, I think a #2 TE is in order. Butt has #1 potential, and he might be our #2. The Harbaugh connection is strong. Also.. "Hehehehe. Bottom" Round Four: Ryan Switzer, WR. Confession: I like Perriman and Wallace going forward. I think both of them are good outside options. What we lack is an underneath guy. Enter Ryan Switzer. A shifty little guy who has good hands, and deceptive after the catch ability. Combine that with his good route running, and his ability to find zones, and you're talking about a guy who could have a Cole Beasley type impact, which has proven to be a very good thing. I don't trust Campanaro to stay healthy. Likewise, Switzer can become the guy on punt returns going forward. Round Five: Randall Goforth, DB Want a guy who can play either CB or safety? He's your man. We use that a lot, and frankly after a Jimmy Smith injury I think that we could use a guy like Goforth. I trust Tavon Young to move up to the outside and Goforth could easily fill in as a third safety, or as a slot CB. Either way, he helps the defense. Round Six: Ejuan Price, OLB I have a feeling that a lot of teams are gonna pass up on the guy due to the depth in this class/his size. But who cares about that? The dude can play. He has issues in the run game, which shouldn't be a problem, and can put pressure on the QB. If we can resign a Dumervil type and let him develop, Price could be a player going forward. Anyway, hope y'all like it. Or not. Either way screw you, I have one more coming anyway on draft day.

This isn't wrong in theory, I guess, but in pass rushing situations, you only "eat blocks" if you actually pose a threat as a pass rusher. Jernigan, contrary to popular belief, was doubled a lot in passing scenarios. Pierce, however, was not. Eating blocks does not happen in passing situations unless you require a double team. As far as the pass rush goes, gap shooters are far more impactful than "block eaters." The "block eater" types are just fat guys that rarely sniff the QB. You can usually find them stood up by the center at the LOS as the QB is entering his fifth second without pressure. See: Cody, Terrence; Ngata, Haloti; Williams, Brandon.. TL;DR? Gap shooters get pressure. Block eaters don't. Pressure requires athleticism. If you don't get pressure, you won't get doubled, and if you aren't eating blocks, are you even actually a block eater? The whole concept of sending fat guys out there for the sole purpose of clogging space is so damn outdated and obsolete.

Considering your not allowed to post full articles.... @Filmstudy has been a long contributor here long before the board shutting down. But why would that even be a bad thing when all he does his educate us fans with great break-downs and research. Talk about over-reacting

Well... sorry to have to break it to you, but... 1.) we already have a good QB - one that played rather poorly at stretches of last season - but not a bad QB by any measure; 2.) I'm afraid you've been fooled. That ship-thing was an April's fool prank.

So when FilmStudy would routinely direct his thoughts to RSR LONG BEFORE it was announced that this forum was shutting down, where was the profit? I tell ya, some folks are just miserable.
  28. 4 points
I posted my thoughts on the trade here: http://russellstreetreport.com/2017/04/05/filmstudy/ravens-trade-timmy-jernigan-value/ A few points: There is no guarantee on the comp pick round The comp pick would have been lost if the Ravens sign more FAs or potentially hamstrung the FA process The possible comp pick would have come in 2019, the trade draft capital in 2017, so there should be significant discounting applied to comp Jernigan played much higher leverage downs than Williams (80% of 3rd downs as opposed to 21% for Williams) The Ravens increase the chance to retain CJ Mosley, so it's a choice of cornerstone players

We once had a seemingly demented woman absolutely stalking a player through the forums. She repeatedly accused him of fathering an illegitimate child (like that ever happens in the NFL) and made progressively more nasty threats. That one finally had to get bumped up to team security. Don't know what happened from there, but she never posted again. We had another stalking incident that got so bad that eventually police were involved. There was a player's estranged father trying to open contact through the forums. And then there's he whose name shall never be mentioned. Shudder. These are the kinds of things that have gone on in the background for years. On a happier note, think of all of the births, graduations, engagements, and marriages we've celebrated over the years.

Maybe this quick analysis will make you see why this is much more probably gonna end up being a good move than a bad one And if you're familiar with RSR, you know that Tony Lombardy isn't the guy who will defend everything about the Ravens organization's actions. Sorry bio, I will take a motivated Timmy and his production and a possible 3rd round comp pick next draft over moving up 25 spots in the third round this draft any day. IMHO Lombardi is the one who is wrong. He did not convince me one bit with his argument.

What if say... a guy like Elflein is available at 74 and wouldn't have been at 99 and moving Jernigan is the difference between us landing a franchise C for the next 10 years or picking a backup CB or something. This move will be judged on how Pierce/Henry play and what we get at 74. Period.

I think the issue here is the swap more than it is the trade. If we got a pick without giving up a pick and Jernigan then I think there would be more love for the move. People praise Belichick for making moves like this and this is that type of move. We dropped him while his value is at its highest. I'm not a fan of the move honestly because I'd like to keep the DL intact since we've lost guys at virtually every level of the defense this year and have a shakeup already but have only added to that.
  40. 3 points
We could very well be looking to trade up in the second by offering our original 3rd. I also wouldn't be surprised if we were looking to move our second to possibly move up for mike Williams or Barnett, having a high third takes the sting out of that a little bit, I think it's very possible. i honestly like it, because I think the absolute most we would get from Jernigan is a late third the following year, moving up that many spots this year instead is better return imo. I think realistically we would only get a 4th though.

Three 3rd rounders would have be sweet though. I had a big smile on my face until I saw we parted with the 99th.

I don't like it for the shear fact that he was pretty much the only semblance of interior pass rush we had, even though the back half of his season was pretty atrocious. With that being said, there seem to be quite a few allusions to it being more than an on the field decision. Apparently he didn't take it too well when his playing time was reduced late in the season. Coming from a strictly on field perspective, I don't like it. If it's deeper than that, I guess you could say I'm okay with it.
  44. 3 points
I would like it more if it was Timmy traded for the 74th pick straight up.

You lost me at "stacked talent." Joe has never had a true #1 receiver who could just take a game over. SSS, Q, etc, etc were all serviceable, but their best years were behind them regardless of the stats they put up at Baltimore. It's time for the FO to get Joe an OBJ, Jones, Brown, AJG, Megatron type receiver. Joe isn't elite, but he is definitely not a bad QB. The FO needs to get Joe a real #1 target to go with the pieces already in place and they need to make sure the have a line that can protect him. Joe isn't overly mobile so he doesn't do well when he is pressured. If he has a line that can give him time, a true #1 receiver, a guy who can stretch the field(Perriman) and a solid RB, Joe can carve defenses up. The defense is almost set. We just need a pass rusher, another corner and another LB. If Ozzie nails this draft, then we can make a post-season run. Ozzie has to hit this draft out of the park.

I'm afraid you've been fooled. That ship-thing was an April's fool prank. Sorry to break it to YOU! No, the Ravens do NOT have a good QB. PJ's living quite famously off a wing and a prayer heave, botched by the safety. A lifetime QB rating of 84% for a ten year starter is AWFUL! You can see how bad Pathetic Joe and Self Righteous John have been since Lewis retired. You can make every excuse in the book you want for these two, but it doesn't change the facts. I do hope you know that you are the only one who knows what the nickname that you have given Joe stands for. PJ? I would also like to inform you that QBR is NOT a percentage. Matt Stafford Steve Mcnair, Matt Hasselbeck, Troy Aikman, Eli Manning, Alex Smith, Dan Fouts, John Elway, Bernie Kosar, Fran Tarkington, Otto Grahm, Drew Bledsoe Terry Bradshaw, Joe Namath, Johnny Unitas, and Phil Simms all have QBRs lower than Joes. Directly above him is Jim Kelly 84.39, Brett Favre 86, and Dan Marino 86.38. It is quite clear that you have very little idea of what QBR is and have absolutely no idea how it is calculated. I am not saying that Joe is better or worse than any of the guys I have mentioned. I am saying that you have no idea what you are talking about.

Thje Giants game - plus the Raiders game, the Eagles game and the Pittsburgh game. All three games the O put the D into the position where all they had to do was stopping the opponent's O "one more time" to march down the field and score. And all three times they failed. (The Eagles game is somewhat different of course, where it was Flacco's flagrant mistake that put the Eagles in a position to start that march down the field the first place - but then the D was unable to stop it... And, if they don't elect to go for 2 instead of a simple PAT, a well-won game would have, in all probability, gone to overtime...)
