So I just finished watching Harbs talk live on Facebook and the commenting section was attrocious. Everyone was saying bring back this person, that person. Eventually it got to Ray Rice and people were actually comparing him to Dennis Pitta, in terms of how they have missed a few seasons but only Pitta was kept "because it was personal". Seriously Admins!? Do you really want to leave us with this crap?

I don't. But it's partially because selecting each others' targets has become such a common occurrence that I'm beginning to wonder whether I actually went mental years ago and he's simply an escaped persona of mine posting from another account.

Indeed. 9/10 of my suggestions would probably bomb. though I will say. It's better than a lot of fans here ef u no wut eye meen

And I see it totally the other way. The slightest defense of Flacco is met with a tirade of over-the-top criticism. I don't see anyone "absolutely love" Joe, just people trying to tell the "haters" to lighten up. Seriously people, there is a middle ground and I think that's where the bulk of the fans are. We've seen horrible Joe and we've see tremendous Joe. What we want is a plan, scheme, roster, whatever, that helps us see the good Joe way more often.

Barnett's done it against NFL level competition. Got 3 sacks going up against Tunsil in 2015. Most still think he'll be a great LT in the league. He abused Cam Robinson who is an NFL talent. Looked good and was productive against DJ Humphries. Will Holden, David Sharpe, Kendall Baker who are all NFL level talents. And he's had some of his best, most dominant performances against the guys most viewed to be guaranteed NFL talents... and high end talents (depending on position with Cam) against Alabama and Ole Miss. Granted it's no guarantee. And this is one I can't wait to bring back up once we see him play in the NFL... but theres a lot more to like than just his bend. Its the way he sets up his pass rushes and has a plan of attack, his polished moves/counter moves, the footwork, his finishing ability, and his combo of hand fighting, footwork, and bend that allow him to take the most direct path to the QB which allows him to get there just as quickly as some of the guys who are more athletic than him but have to take a more rounded route to the QB. The only reason he gets the Suggs comp is bc hes a guy that on tape clearly has elite talent, has probably the most NFL ready skill set of any pass rusher ive seen in some time but at the very least in this draft class thats strong on pass rushers, has elite, steady production over 3 years against arguably the best competition available, and is a hardworking leader thats also a really good kid by all accounts who could only fall due to over-valuing raw athleticism. But we will see.
  16. 4 points
And for that to happen we need consistent blocking, better YPA on runs, better WR separation and less drops overall , and not constant turnover with OC and philosophy.
  17. 4 points
I'll bite. John Ross and Cam Robinson are high up on my "do not touch" lists. I don't like either, but thanks to an amazing combine from Ross he will probably go high. Likely to us which would piss me the hell off. Cam Robinson I don't like either, and if we draft him I'll call for Ozzie's head. Ramcyzk is the superior prospect.

cant believe some havent figured this out yet.... and its not unique either -- its just a bad pft commenter impersonation. Anyways, 100% agree with your take on the FO's plan on the offense, perceptions of the draft in terms of "strengths/weaknesses," and the emphasis on C over RT. Couldnt have said it better myself.
  19. 3 points
I know exactly what you mean. It comes from passion. And yes your suggestions are a looooot better than some. like you, I'm extreemly dissapointed that we havnt yet addressed Oline but I wouldn't go as far as "I'm sick and tired of our FO neglecting the offense." In fact, most of our cap the past few years has been on offense. Also our 1st rounders the past two years have been WR and LT. Keep in mind that our Marquee FA signings the past two years have also been offense. Have faith bro. Over the past two years, Ozzie is doing great. Decosta is doing great. I hate to say this but the real problem was bringing in Trestman. The bigger problem was retaining his services and bringing guys to fit his system. Which really was no system.

Living in Canada this was basically the only joint for semi-intelligible Ravens talk. Facebook Ravens is just insanity, theres no discussion there.
  22. 3 points
How exactly does adding Warford solidify an Oline that needs probably 2 new starters? I would also point out that it seems that the people driving the "Lewis at RT" bus is exclusively limited to just fans. Pretty obvious from everything I've heard from the FO at this point that they fully view Lewis as the starter at LG. I'm not even sure they're going to try him at RT until they decide nobody else in camp can play the position.

I expect multiple superbowls too from Harbaugh/Flacco era.. But you gotta get back to Ravens football. Ravens Smashmouth identity. Ground and pound, playaction deep pass style game, not sling it 45x a game like last year and when Joe lead nfl in passing attempts.
  24. 3 points
Once the Ravens actually have a contract signed by Mosley that keeps him here for "many, many, many years", then I'll believe it. But sadly, even with contracts these days nothing is guaranteed.

I think people over estimate Jernigan's value. He tends to disappear for long stretches at a time and lost playing time to Carl Davis. He has moments of being good, but he's not a great player, or someone that you build your defense around.

I think the comment on Lewis is more or less bc they're not in a position to be picky and Lewis' versatility helps the situation. Were going to get the best possible OL, and then put the best 5 we have on the field. If we find a C and G - Lewis could play RT. That's all. And im not as worried about RT if we get a legit C. Interior OL is key to me, and I'm intrigued by the potential of Wesley. I also wouldn't be shocked if come July Mangold gets signed. I know some don't like that, but I think he'd be a nice 1-2 year answer while we develop or patiently wait to find the long term answer. Imo the weakness of this OL draft is overstated bc there aren't any obvious franchise type LT's at the top... the best OL players project best to G or RT. But I actually think it's pretty solid rounds 2-4 at the positions we need. Cam, Ram, Lamp, Feeney, Dawkins could all be trade back or 2nd round options to fill either LG or RT (Lewis at the other).... Elflein could be a day 1 starter at C in either the 2nd or 3rd. And then there's a number of guys like Moton, Toth, Elumeunor, Morgan, Dielman, Bisnowaty, etc... that could play multiple positions and be available anywhere from the 3rd to the 6th to compete for a starting job. Weve routinely pulled guys out of the middle of drafts that come in and produce almost right away (Lewis, Yanda, KO, Wagner). I think the goal will be to nail at least one starter this draft and if not both plug the 2nd hole with a vet cut or someone like Mangold, Dunlap, Clady, etc.... Then finalize it next year to have 4 starters on rookie deals. Not to mention they clearly like Urschel, Jensen, Wesley, Nembot and Skura. Don't be surprised if one of them starts and plays really well. Also keep in mind the coaching changes made on offense with emphasis on the OL/run game. We've seen in past different coaching and suddenly someone unexpected bursts on the scene.

Absolutely agree. A few other things will help immensely- keeping the same OC, just so the pass play and blocking schemes can remain intact. Next improve the running game- big plays and yds per down, first downs and TD's. Reduce penalties and lastly increase time of possession. Do those things and this team has a shot at the trophy.
  33. 2 points
I see no mention of the pass Lee Evans didn't hold on to in the end zone in the AFC Title Game against the Pats. Right on the money. Dropped. Cundiff misses the FG. Every team has plays for the example you gave. "IF" Russell Wilson doesn't throw and interception the Seahawks win the Super Bowl. "IF" Eli doesn't escape out of the pocket and "IF" David Tyree doesn't make a great catch the Pats win the Super Bowl. That's only two "IF" facts but I could go on and on.....

It can be done but the play making needs to improve along with the play calling

I think it's putting the best possible team on the field now, without taking short cuts that would harm the long term prospects of contending over a span of time. I dont think it has to be either/or. We added young pieces to the defense that can be here, and be leaders for a long time. Carr plugs the hole for a year but doesnt prohibit us from adding a young piece. Were headed to the draft, i imagine, with hopes of finding either a RT, G or C that can be an immediate contributor and long term answer... and then will evaluate the scene afterwards. But, they werent going to pay for an over priced option on the OL or at WR that wont be a long term fix, or would be cost prohibitive. So the plan is to build a dominate OL that will be the core piece of that offense that makes it go, and fill in where we cant with cheap 1 year fixes until the long term answers are in house.... and they focused/built up the defense bc they feel we can still compete now with an elite D while they take the long term approach on building the offense.

I would still push for Josh Gordon. As much as I want Boldin back he is older and getting up there. I think he will turn it around and surprise people. His suspensions are easily fixable.
  37. 2 points
A 3rd would be the least that I would take, because we have a decent chance of landing a 3rd as a comp pick in the 2019 draft and still have him in the field this year on the cheap. I'd rather keep him, but that's me.
  38. 2 points
I think it's a mix. Some overestimate it. Some underestimate it. I certainly wouldn't be giving him away but I also don't think he's worth a day 2 pick like some suggest. I don't think there's a trade that even makes sense unless it's a player swap. For a 4th round pick, which I'd guess would be his absolute max value, I'd rather have him on the field for one more year, even with his inconsistencies.
  39. 2 points
A lot of number 1 receivers have been integral in getting their team to the superbowl though or close - just because the big game is annually taken over by the patriots doesn't mean those number 1 guys on other teams aren't worth the money

That should work. Oh, and more Eisenburg editorials.

Agreeing with you up until this point. The Ravens had a very good rate at avoiding 3-and-outs. Of their 192 drives, only 35 ended in a 3-and-out, which is an 18.23% rate and good for 6th best in the league (LINK). That's in front of teams like the Packers, Cowboys, Steelers, and even the Patriots who were bottom 6. Also, the Ravens had a positive TOP on the year and were above-average (12th overall) for the league (LINK). The defense blowing leads had less to do with the offense and was more on their own failings. Losing Jimmy Smith really seemed to tank that unit and Pees could not adjust adequately - didn't help that some prolific offense came through, too.

Lack of QB consistency It's irrelevant if Flacco is a great playoff performer if he can't get the job done in the regular season.
  43. 1 point
You're comparing unlike positions in your last blurb. Pierce is not similar to Jernigan as a pass rusher. You aren't going to put him in as a 3T in nickel sets. That's not his role.
  44. 1 point
I guess I see Carr as an upgrade over Shareece but I not as a huge upgrade in general. He is a good player, and solidifies the position, but if Jimmy gets hurt and he's our #1 guy for multiple weeks I'm less confident than you are. As for DE, I'm pretty sure we only have two on the roster as of right now, Kaufusi and Urban. We can play Timmy out there, but he's naturally a DT. I was surprised we didn't make an attempt to keep Ducasse as well, I thought he was really solid guard depth for us, especially considering the fact that the FO seems to like the idea of Lewis at tackle to replace Wagner. I would be very okay with your draft strategy on offensive linemen, 3rd/4th/ and 5th round offensive linemen is where our scouts make their money. I also remember Gradkowski at center... never again.

Harris doesn't have the bend you speak of though and he has really bad decision making. I'm not putting too much stock into the combine, just taking note that he made a drastic improvement from where he was during the season. Harris has a great first step, but the more you watch the more you'll notice the mental lapses and missed opportunities. He has a lot of moments where he has an opportunity to turn the corner but continues to speed rush past the pocket, he mistimes his counter moves often and comes too late with it, and he is too reliant on the bullrush. His anticipation and flexibility are really weak The more I've watched Harris the more I've noticed he's that kind of guy who is just always a step behind mentally, he was a great college rusher but I could really see him failing to make the adjustment. Tj watt is a guy who I think hasn't even scratched the surface, he had one year of college ball and was dominant on film in all aspects and shows NFL traits, the awareness and the natural shedding ability are just some things that look like an NFL skill set

Isn't being a Ravens fan great. When you want some extra motivation for your team just mention Flacco and Elite. Does wonders, even all these years later.
  47. 1 point
I have a hard time believing most NFL scouts would like Harris over watt. Watts tape is so much better and then he made big leaps athletically when he began training for the combine. Harris has a great first step but he is missing a lot of tools and he is so bad against the run he may not be able to figure it out at the next level
  48. 1 point
Pollard was cut because he sucks...thats why he was cut from Tennessee and why he hasn't played the last 2 seasons....A safety that can't cover has no place in the NFL. Reed was a free agent and wasn't worth anywhere near what the Texans paid him.
  49. 1 point
Oh I dunno, maybe go out and get a top 5 ranked S to replace the 17th ranked. Maybe pick up the 11th ranked corner to replace the outgoing 35th ranked, replacing the OL coach that was ranked near the bottom with a coach that was in the top 5? Etc....
  50. 1 point
You will be having a different attitude about him after this year, give the kid some credit. He was injured his entire rookie year because our team was to stubborn to do his surgery earlier and when he was finally healthy last year and gaining confidence he showed he could be great WR for us. This year will be his breakout season with over 1000 yards and 10 TDs. He is the reason why we wont be drafting a WR in the 1st or 2nd round and be able to draft other needs instead.
