I keep thinking the same thing. With Dixon on the team, I have pretty much zero interest in picking Cook with #16.

Peppers stock would've plummeted faster than a snap of a finger if he landed wrong on that backflip.

the ravens wont pass on him, unless the bama coaching staff tells ozzie straight up that the kids a headcase. i still doubt he falls past cincinnati who love themselves a good headcase and need a LB anyway, and even if cinci goes another direction, pretty much every team after them could use a LB, saints, browns, colts, eagles, cardinals, all of them would have a hard time passing on a guy like foster. the kids a generational talent, this isnt a vontaze burfict case where he had 3 seasons of absolute boneheaded and hotheaded film, and then proceeded to have possibly the worst combine of all time and then seemingly sabotaged himself in the interview process... reuben foster is lightyears ahead of burfict in terms of talent and character, even if foster has off the field issues at least he isnt on tape headhunting and cussing out coaches and refs.

Jesus. I just busted out laughing in my office during a meeting when I read this. Clearly, this meeting is less important than a Flacco thread. The F18s will still be there.

so i just noticed a mock that had john ross going to the cowboys. after seeing just how fast he actually is, i think that would be really dangerous. with their offense as it currently is, a solid WR who just happens to run a 4.22 would blow the ceiling off of their offense. stacking the box isnt an option against dez witten and ross, so zeke runs for a good 1500+ yards, ross could average a record setting YPR due to play action bombs, you gotta think they would work that option quite a bit because i dont see how the hell you could stop that when youre facing a rushing offense of that caliber. that would be a super bowl type of formula. its rare that you can say the fastest wr in the league would be the key to contending, sounds like an al davis philosophy, but in this case it would be lethal. id probably name them super bowl favorites if they made that move.

For those who think Flacco's 4-game run through the Super Bowl in '12 was a postseason "anomaly", consider these stats: in the playoff years of '10, '11, and '14, in 6 total games (5 were away) the Ravens were 3-3, winning at least 1 game per year; Flacco in those 6 games threw 13 TDs and 4 INTs (that's 24 TDs and 4 INTs in 10 postseason games since 2010); Flacco's QB ratings during those 6 games were 115.4, 61.1, 97.1, 95.4, 114.0, and 92.1; and the Ravens scored 25.9 points/game. Remember the perfect pass to Lee Evans in the end zone at New England in '11 in which Evans couldn't hold on, or Cundiff's blown field goal in the same game, preventing the Ravens from playing in the Super Bowl that year?

Great, another article about Flacco that fans think bashing him will help change the fact that we are stuck with him for the next 3 years at least... Flacco is a good QB. We are lucky to have a starter capable of winning big games like Flacco can. We could be in a much worse position. And in all honesty, Flacco does give us a chance to win every game. We very rarely ever get blown out, regardless of who we play.

"Very competitive offer" is the Ravens' way of saying "we're probably going to lose yet another young, talented player because we've got all our money invested in aging/injured players and our overrated QB."

this kind of reactive thinking is what kills a team. Don't you think the Patriots fans were saying the same thing when the drafted Jimmy G in the second round? The Ravens need to be pro active and draft with a eye on the future. The Pats drafted Jimmy G in the back of the second round (pick 62) and now are going to get a first rounder in return from some poor desperate team. On top of all that are you really comfortable putting the weight of the season on Flacco who turns 33 this year, plays behind a less than ideal line , and has had major knee surgery ? I don't want to repeat 2015 watching Schaub and Clausen waste a season

I went into the combine not knowing much about Peppers, Reddick and Humphrey and came away very impressed with each one of those. Reddick to me is going to be a stud LBer with the ability to do damage like Elvis Dumervil but also be great in coverage. He can be a 3 down OLB for us. Humphrey to me is really smooth and fluid and has the ability to play inside and out. Peppers is the X Factor man. He's just a total football player like Weddle. He's going to be an absolute star in the league and I now have no issues if the Ravens went with him at 16 providing of course Charles Harris, Reuben Foster and Mike Williams are all gone. The other guy that really impressed me was Christian McCaffery. He is another great ball player like Peppers on offense. I wouldn't mind taking him by trading a few spots down and adding a couple of picks. This draft is so dang deep, it may be the best play.

My gf ain't home this week so I'll have plenty of time to check a few guys: Melifonwu, A. Jackson, Pocic, Eflein, and Reddick as well. Only few time I dedicated to him was watching the Senior Bowl practices a few times and, just like you all, I was very impressed. Super fluid dropping in coverage and good speed around the edge. Very good athlet. I'll let you know soon. Do you have any specific tape to suggest? You might be 100% right. Mine is just the fear that, in case we're able to get him, his go to move might be neutralized with relative ease by any pro LT who shows a good, deep kick and has the patience to punch him at the right time. He is a lot more than that anyway so I wouldn't be overly concerned

so from today so far, i never thought the combine would affect the way i feel about some of these dbs so much, not just how fast they run but the running styles as well, i cant wait for this last group to go through the drills to see them flip their hips, conley is a big winner today, melifonwu and moreau as well, lattimore and jones i think have confirmed their spots for me also
  17. 2 points
it would be the best move tbh. unless derek barnett falls to 16 i think trade back should be our top priority. we can move back to the mid 20s to pick up a 2nd, and we can still land one of charles harris, tim williams, haason reddick, tj watt, or a cb like tre white or possibly even sidney jones or quincy wilson, and if were feeling like manly men we can take dan feeney and really bring a boost to our run game. no matter how we look at it, we could trade back to the mid or even late 20s and still get a guy at a position of need that would be going top 20 in most draft classes and pick up another 2nd rounder and maybe even a 3rd if team is desperate. a trade back could completely turn the franchise around.

These reports by Zrebiec which i assume everyone is basing their opinions on, don't suggest that the Ravens are losing any of the 3 UFAs. I only shows what everybody already knew, those guys will test their value on the market and they're smart to do so. The Ravens will never be foolish enough to negotiate against themselves. The agents for Williams, Wagners and Juice have all the leverage right now. The common thought is that there is so much more money on the market and agents would be foolish not to use that against the Ravens. I'll continue to use Wagner as example. If the Ravens are offering to make him the highest paid RT outside of Johnson at 7M per but Wagner's people think there's a real shot at getting 10M on the open market, why would they sign now? It's just not smart. At the very least you know the Ravens are willing to go to 7M and they really want to keep you so if you were wrong about the open market and no teams are willing to go much higher than the 7M, the agent knows the Ravens offer is likely to still be on the table. On the flip side The Ravens would be foolish to raise their offer just because the agent thinks his client will be a huge hit on the open market. You're only 1-2 days away from seeing what your market value really is, so why wouldn't you test it unless the Ravens do what the Cheifs did with Berry and overpay just to keep him off the market. Which was smart by KC because Berry is a game changer, either Williams or Wagner are. Those Zrebiec tweet just indicate that the Ravens won't be able to keep those players off the open market, which Harbs basically said himself. We've offered competitive offers and those guys will do their due diligence to test their market is what Harbs said. These tweets are written in opinion. They just know that other teams are interested. Again I go back to the Schwartz situation this time last year. At the combine 8-10 teams were reported to be interested, so Schwartz turned down a 7M offer from the Browns because surely he'd get more on the market being such a hot commodity right? No, because no team was willing to make the 7M the Browns offered and when he tried to go back and accept the Browns offer they pulled it off the table so he had to settle for less. So when we see Zrebiec tweet that the ship has sailed on Wagner what does that mean? Nothing more than he won't sign before the market opens but he still has to be offered more than the Ravens did which unless Zrebiec knows contract details or have spoken to other teams or the agent, he's just giving his opinion.

Wagner potentially leaving is a big loss and a big hole to fill. Would love to go into the draft without a gaping hole on the roster. With that said let Brandon Williams walk if he's getting the brinks truck backed up for him somewhere, I think Pierce is the real deal. We could certainly use that money better by bringing in a guy like Brandon Marshall. Flacco has never had a true prototype #1 WR. We need to realize Joe's limitations, he's a good QB, but he's not Brady or Rodgers who can sling the ball no matter who is at WR. Flacco needs some help, he needs a big frame guy who can make grabs without a ton of separation. Now that SSS we need a ball winner WR more than ever.

Right, because KO didn't sign with a winner and nearly make the Super Bowl himself.

Throwing at a pro day is not the same as in a game, watch his film and you'll see his accuracy take breaks throughout the game. It's just objectively true that at times his accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. Of course every QB misses open guys during a game, but Kelly does it consistently and constantly, if it only happened a couple times per game I wouldn't have a complaint about it, but it doesn't only happen when he's under pressure, he also does it in a clean pocket. Comparing him to Young and Favre is just ridiculous, just because a guy has some arm talent and may get a bit better over time doesn't magically make him first ballot hall of fame caliber, or even capable of being that good. Casually comparing him to all time greats really only hurts your case, when you make comparisons that lofty then most likely you're not being objective about him. You can like a player and be realistic about them, those two camps are not mutually exclusive.

I am a little different on the Q thing because from what i remember, without trading Q we couldnt have landed Doom, maybe im wrong. But what made no sense to me is that the FO traded Joe's go to guy after giving him the massive contract and didnt bring anyone in to help. I believe our FO has lacked giving Joe enough talent around him. Just look at the collection of talent we had on offense in our SB year, we didnt have any elite WR but we had a collection of guys that did great and we also had a great RB. I think the RB position is key to our success, more than most. Honestly, Decosta knows more about football than anyone on here, so its kind of a compliment, i just stating his lack of effort to form a competent response. Yeah, what's crazy to me is even after as many whiffs as we've had for several year running now in the high rounds, and bad signings, and all that. We still easily had at least the second most talented roster in the AFC last year. Yet we didn't make the playoffs. Solely because of coaching imo. But I think it's borderline fact too. Just so disheartening. Not to mention they ALL come back, except for the one awesome coach, Frazier. Just a massive bummer Yeah couldn't disagree with this more. We have major talent issues all over our roster. In particular, I think it would be largely difficult to name many talented players on our roster under the age of 30 at the moment, which is a MAJOR problem. The biggest difference between us and Pittsburgh last year was playmakers and talent. Their offense is riddled with All-World and above average players at nearly every position. Ours is pretty much the exact opposite. Like nobody realistically looks at our roster compared to a Pittsburgh, Dallas, Atlanta, etc. and thinks that we are on the same playing field. Just because you play those teams tight doesn't mean you're as good as them. and we completely disagree. what else is new

The thing about it is don't blame Joe for his contract blame the front office. Joe could've accepted less that he was offered. Joe was probably flattered that they gave him more than he wanted. I agree- it is the front office's fault for Joe's ridiculous contract. They got completely caught up in SB euphoria and handed a ridiculous amount of cash over to Joe. That's just one part of the problem since 2012. I mean for several years we managed to keep guys like R. Lewis, Ogden, Suggs, Ed Reed, Ngata and several other Pro Bowl calibre players past their rookie contract. Now, thanks in large part to dumb decisions like overpaying Flacco and aging/injured veterans, we are unable to keep any of our young talent past their rookie contract. Especially with Suggs and Yanda entering their twilight years, it is pretty difficult to imagine many scenarios where the Ravens can finish much better than 8-8, at least not for the next few years.

Check his 2015 stats prior to his injury... he was having a bad year before he got hurt. Much the same as the 2016 season.
  27. 2 points
I have never questioned the effort of this team since 2012 regardless of our record. I feel the Ravens always come out and play hard, always. I think any fan can see that. We just haven't had the talent we needed... agree

They're not game changers but they're very important to trenches. The run D collapsed the last few weeks of the season and it was the guys around BW who looked awful. Timmy Jernigan looks like a guy who may be questionable in terms of his season long effectiveness. He burnt out in a really bad way. Lawrence Guy regressed and guys on the edge opposite of Suggs couldn't hold it down to save their lives. If BW walks you're going to have to be really concerned for what's going to happen with the DL next year if the guys on the line carry their play into next season. It's also a matter of choice and right now we're going to have to decide who we'll have to pay, Brandon Williams or Timmy Jernigan and right now I would prefer BW all day long.

Why do the Ravens wait until the contract is up to offer a very good competitive contract? Why do all our players rather hit free agency? It just trips me out how teams like the Steelers can keep Brown, Bell, and Big Ben and we struggle to keep guys that are not even pro bowlers.

'potentially finished'... was my choice of words. If we don't make the playoffs or even go deep into it, I can't see Harbaugh surviving another down year. He basically mailed an envelope to Bisciotti asking to be fired when he retained Marty as OC. So, if the offense now sputters and the Ravens end up either at the same place or worse than 2016, I don't see how Harbaugh is HC anymore.
  34. 2 points
He led the league in catches (for Tight Ends) with 86, but only managed 8.5 yards a catch and 2 touchdowns with 4 plays of 20+ yards and none over 40. Travis Kelce had 85 catches, averaged 13.5 yards per play, had 4 touchdowns and 14 plays of +20 yards, with 4 at plus 40. Based on the way their contracts work out, Pitta will make slightly more than Kelce...seems a bit silly to me. Pitta has lost his edge, and his play-making is showing it. Not to mention the lingering hip worries. Imagine losing him in the first or second game this season...then it's dead money either way.
  35. 2 points
Pitta is just one big hit away from retirement. He is no blocker anyhow so his current worth is questionable. Time to look ahead. Many needs on the team and housecleaning is a need to be addressed if we are going tom get going in the right direction this season.

My dream scenario is Barnett 1st, Jackson 2nd (unless somehow a higher rated CB is still there). 3rd grabbing someone like Zay Jones or if Kpassagnon is somehow there... and getting our C of the future in either Pocic/Elflein. Id prefer if we can get the pass rusher in the 1st unless theyre just absolutely sold on a CB being a shut down stud... but i also dont want to wait too late and settle for just a guy -- someone that may contribute as a decent starter or back up -- when we could get a very good starter with pro bowl type potential in the 2nd. While I like guys like Moreau, Corn Elder, Howard Wilson, etc... I think there's a solid group of 3-5 guys that could possibly be there for us in the 2nd and would be legit 1st rounders in most drafts. Obviously i trust our FO's board... but i really hope we can take advantage of the depth at CB and nab 1st round talents at both pass rush/WR/OL (depending on what we do in FA and how the board falls at 16) and then CB. Barnett/Williams/Harris at 16; Quincy/Conley/Jackson/White/Lewis/Tank in the 2nd.

The only reason it was Laws again is that I didn't have enough bends screenshots.. I've been reviewing those that are capable of being picked with our first 3 picks (so Garrett and low school guys with few or no tapes excluded) and have to admit that I didn't find a good sample size. Price is the only one I can recall with a low pad level and good bend. Rivers had a pretty good showing as well. However, as I wrote in the end of my precedent comment, my interpretation of dip and bend doesn't take anything away from Barnett.. He's a top 15 talent in this class which is quite impressive already and I like him better than guys like Bosa and Taco. So really.. Not trying to throw sheesh at him while pumping my guy up. Lawson himself has an average bend imo. It's purely coincidental. And it can also very well be that I'm being nitpicking here. I just noticed some differences while watching tapes and wanted to share my POV with you.

I hate to break it to you but we desperately NEED another WR on the roster, and a pass rusher and a CB or two. Those need to come first, particularly the latter two. I don't think I need to bring up the 2014 season where we kept rotating cornerbacks day in and day out and eventually that did us in during the divisional round of the playoffs.

Starting to really come to terms with losing Williams and Wagner. Not saying its over yet and they're gone. Could just be testing what their value is and comparing to where the Ravens are. I also imagine at least Williams will bring any offer he gets on the market back to Ozzie to see if he'll match or come close. I honestly believe he wants to stay, but wont offer a meaningful discount to do so. But, even if they both go.... we find OL and DL easy in mid-rounds. I have faith in Pierce to step up. And we need to fix the interior OL. RT's dont grow on trees, but we can get by. Lewis might even be better fit there. We may find out. Plus, if not making huge offers to BWill and Wagner means we can bring in Mangold, Marshall/Garcon, and throw the BWill/Wagner money at someone like Zeitler Im ok. I think the formula is and should still be build in the trenches. But i dont think RT and 2 down run stuffing NT are the types of guys we necessarily need to hitch our horses to. Both are Ravens. And ill hate to see them go. But we cant pay $9m for either quite honestly. Just not worth it when we have guys that can probably do 75-80% of what they can do going into their sophomore seasons. It might be best for both camps to walk away.

This is why my dream position from that other thread is backup QB lol

Remember time we had two 14 point leads in NE in 2014? Yeah Flacco played pretty well that game. I honestly believe if we didn't have injuries that year we could have went to the super bowl. Our secondary was AWFUL. Secondary was banged up I'm not gonna say awful but is why I was against that very very very bad pass to the endzone with so much time on the clock risking putting your banged up secondary back on the field to save the game! Smh Justin had a monster day and would have walked through them pats and Joe could have ran up the sidelines Hurst pancaked his man and there was no one over there! SB nation showed the footage from behind Joe something our website will not show "Things we missed" didn't air that week the safety played Joe and Joe fell for it costing costing us a Super Bowl and sent Torrey out of here unjustly!
  46. 1 point
Unless the FO nails the draft this year and makes some really good decisions concerning the free agent market I'm worried that last year's 8-8 record may be hard to repeat without such an easy schedule.
  47. 1 point
JHarbaugh doesn't hold anyone accountable, its always the same, yes they play hard most of the time , but that's not enough, the desire to be great and the ability for a staff to coach players up is what separates the good teams from the great teams (see NE) I can count at least three games where Harbaugh and Wigs either cost us the game, or made the game closer that it should have been. This staff has been stagnant , from player evaluations to on the field adjustments , John Harbaugh seems to be a fine Man, but lets hope he can become a great coach, and right this ship, this may be his last opportunity as a Raven....

"RAVENS GIVE 'VERY COMPETITIVE' OFFER TO RICK WAGNER" Doesn't mean a thing. That was the exact same phrase ("a very competitive offer") they used about Osemele last season - and we all know how that worked out...
  49. 1 point
We watch most players leave because they are not worth what other teams are offering. What has Torrey done with San Fran for all that money? I'll answer that- nothing. What did Paul Kruger do? nothing. The list goes on and on. Those were very smart decisions by Ozzie, yet all people want to do is bash him. Fans get too attached to some players and not necessarily because of production, and when they leave for absurd amounts of money, it's Ozzie's fault.
