A true Flacco Hater This "Flacco Hater" just stated that Flacco does not deserve to be the #1 highest paid QB in the NFL. Since you obviously disagree, I suppose you think Flacco is the best QB in football?? Now, Flacco is not the best QB in the NFL, not by any standard whatsoever. Therefore, I'm only left to conclude that either you are delusional or you are labeling people as "Flacco haters" without paying any attention to what they are saying.

Gonna bookmark this paragraph and wait until you see how much Tony Romo and Jay Cutler get paid in FA this season, as proof to validate what Joe's value would be worth (plus inflation) 2 years from now when that happens. Should give me a good chuckle. You can not seriously suggest that Romo or Cutler will get paid 24+ mil?! You know what, how about a wager? If Romo or Cutler get paid in the same ballpark as Flacco (23-24,5 mil cap hit(!) for 2017) under their new contracts, then I shut up for the rest of eternity regarding Flacco's salary and admit that below average QBs are worth 24mil. But if Romo and Cutler both get paid less than 23 mil (cap hit) for 2017, then you publicly admit that Flacco is vastly overpaid for a mind numbingly below average QB that he is and stop defending his contract. How's that, sound fair?

Carl Lawson is too injury prone to take with Corey Davis and Sidney Jones on the broad!

Again, not majorly improving our pass rush and secondary with so much talent available this year is mind boggling to me. You haven't addressed it via FA either, since top FA corner is out of reach with Ravens miserable cap space. I hate this mock.

I think Micah Hyde would be a great addition to this team. He can play outside, slot, and both safety positions which would let the Ravens be more creative on the defensive side. To me, he is like a very poor man's Tyrann Mathieu. Also, with the amount of injuries we have at DB, his versatility would help soften the blow if/ when one of our guys go down.

LMAO! The Ravens would have been recognized as the dumbest franchise on the planet.

Flacco's contract isn't hurting the Ravens as much as people think. Over the first 3 years of the original contract, Flacco's cap hit was really team friendly. Since signing Flacco to the original contract, the team signed, Pitta, Jimmy, Monroe, Yanda, Tucker, Koch and Weddle to big deals. That doesn't include locking up guys like Zuttah, Wright, SSS, Forsett and Watson to deals that weren't big but the team thought these players would contribute a lot. They also made competitive offers to Torrey and KO. Flacco's contract hasn't hurt the team, that's just the perception going around. What has hurt the Ravens is these long term commitments and young draft picks not playing well over the last 3-4 years. The Ravens have been among the top of the league in dead money over the last 3-4 years because of poor contracts. Injuries have hurt as well. Flacco certainly has to play better and play up to his contract, but he hasn't stopped the team from signing anyone. Boldin was traded because the Ravens didn't think he could perform as well moving forward. Torrey wasn't a guy the Ravens would pay 10Mil for, especially since they have so much success getting close to over the hill WRs who can perform just as well as Torrey and no way they were paying KO LT money without being 100% sure he was the answer there which no one could honestly say. Seeing Flacco struggle on a huge contract sucks, but the reality is, the Ravens don't commit big money to outside players often and the guys they wanted to keep here they have. Flacco has to play better, but the Ravens were banking on guys like Perriman, Maxx, Brooks, Elam, Davis, Smith, Timmy, Taliafero, Buck and others to really step their games up and be the new era of players to keep the team performing well and that just hasn't happened.

Not only that; the article states that basically Romo's cap hit is higher than Flacco's. What has Romo done? How many playoff wins does he have? Championships? Talk about overpaying and underperforming - Romo is the poster child for that!!! Yes, the article states Romo's cap hit is higher, but the implication is that Flacco is getting paid too much. What does it matter what Romo has done?! We are not paying Romo, we are paying Flacco. And ever since getting his big fat payday, with the exception of 2014 when he indeed did deserve his salary, Flacco has done next to nothing for us. At the same time he is holding up very valuable cap space that could be spent on players who actually might do something for us. Again, please stop talking about how Romo or Cutler or whoever hasn't done anything either. These players are not playing for us! Flacco is. Our only concern should be Flacco's salary compared to his playing level. That's it.

I can not believe all the hate you are getting. I seriously do not comprehend how people can even defend Flacco's contract in this situation. Yes, he was signed after a SB run for the ages. But Oz himself has said that in this league you get paid based on "what have you done for me lately". Well, FACT is that lately Flacco has been among the bottom 10 of QB and FACT is that Flacco is getting like he is the #1 QB in the NFL. I just honestly do not understand how so many people can seriously believe that Flacco's salary is fair and fit considering his playing level.

Just to beat a dead horse as I am on record for saying there is no way in this world Flacco should have the highest cap hit in the NFL, here is a guy who has finished in the bottom third of qbs in the league for several years in a row. Bisciotti and Ozzie totally blew that contract by giving him an extension and pumping it up even more. The guy is stealing. He is robbing the ravens blind by taking that money. We are talking about almost a million dollars a touchdown that he threw last year. Ozzie needs to sit him down and let him know that he is destroying this teams ability to sign quality players by holding on to that money he doesn't deserve. He knows he isn't that guy and he knows he should be giving some of it back. The Ravens need to let him know that if he chooses not to take a salary cut that they will draft or sign a free agent qb and get him ready to take Joes spot in two years when they can finally afford to cut him. By then he won't be worth much and no one will go out of their way to sign Flacco. When I think of how Ozzie missed on Elam, Arthur Brown, Max Williams, Terrence Cody, etc... I think his biggest mistake as GM by far was the Flacco contract.
  12. 4 points
Well, we actually watch him play unlike many others. Also plenty of analysts who actually know football, like former qbs Jaworski and esiason and Phil Simms, former qb coaches like mooch, and other respected analysts like Chris berman, all like flacco quite a bit and understand when his team lets his down, which happens far more often than the inverse.
  13. 4 points
Agreed. While I think the drop off from the top 2 to the 2nd tier is pretty steep, the 2nd tier of safeties is still better than the top of most classes. Baker melifonwu and peppers are all probably labeled first rounders in the AVERAGE safety class

I wish fans would realize that Flacco isn't going anywhere for awhile, and we would be dumb to let him go....
  15. 3 points
The flacco contract definitely is hurting us. In fact I would say that probably no other contract in the NFL is handcuffing their team worse. But I still would not call that Ozzies biggest mistake. IDK... Boller comes to mind. Allowing Harbs to bring Dean Pees in comes to mind... The Webb contract is up there. The Pitta contract is also up there. All the guaranteed money on the Ray Rice deal hurt us badly over the past two years. Sergio Kindle hurt us... But Flacco has produced (albeit not up to his contract) but he has produced. So... as much as his contract holds the team hostage... I cant call it Ozzie's worst move... but its top 10 for sure!
  16. 3 points
Not much we can do on his contract.... it is just a bad deal. Joe is clearly not a top 5 QB and yet paid like he is Tom Brady or Aaron Rogers. Nonetheless he has us and the best that we can hope for is that he gets close to being a top 10 QB- With that being said.. we need to put whatever pieces in place to help him to be successful!
  17. 3 points
A true Flacco Hater i wouldn't really say its 'hating' when all the facts are there. He hasn't lived up to the contract given to him. At the end of the day its not all on him, we can easily blame the front office for putting the organization in this position. At the end of the day, to hear that Flacco has the highest cap hit in the NFL is just mind boggling.

Gonna bookmark this paragraph and wait until you see how much Tony Romo and Jay Cutler get paid in FA this season, as proof to validate what Joe's value would be worth (plus inflation) 2 years from now when that happens. Should give me a good chuckle. So are you saying would become a top 10 QB in next 2 years? come on.. you can not attribute team success to one player and give number 1 money to him. QB should be earned based on his performance, Romo earned because he had good QB rating, team failed because it wasn't good in other areas. If you are comparing with Romo, why don't you compare Flacco with Ben, Rodgers, Brady, etc? None of us are real Flacco haters, just wondering how that elite money worth for him.
  19. 3 points
Flacco has no control on his cap number. That's all in how the Ravens have set up his contact.

That is clever of you, @52520Andrew, to not join the game initially but wait for someone to inevitably drop out and then take over the team you like the best so you're not theoretically taking the last pick this time. Pretty sly move there, if I do say so myself. I see you, Andrew, I see you.

This seems like supreme reaches for needs. I dont see Lawson as talented enough to ignore the injuries at 16, just way too high(he's not in the same stratosphere as lattimore so I don't consider that a valid argument) i have never seen Douglas mocked as high as 48, and I like Douglas. I like a lot of guys over Switzer in the third but I don't dislike him, I LOVE the bisnotawy pick there, realistic and would be a great addition and adds to our tradition of quality swing guys. After that im only familiar with Hendrickson who I think is a solid late pick, idk about the 4th though. If every player except for bisnotawy was picked a round later(which is actually more realistic than this, aside from switzer, no offense lol) then this would be great

I think Britt will be looking at Marvin Jones type money at about 4yrs 28Mil that will probably have big bonus money and a smaller cap number over the first two year. I think Garcon will be looking at a much larger commitment imo. Somewhere around 4yrs 36Mil. It's my thinking that moving forward Britt and Garcon will produce at a similar rate, but Britt has the potential to be much more of a difference maker imo. I agree that Garcon has proven track record and Britt doesn't as much. Imo that's why Britt will come cheaper but looking at their 3 year trend track which is more of a future indicator then a entire career, Britt will be a bargain for some team. That's my only point. All the stats were just to show that difference between the 2 might not be as far apart as many think. As for the 3rd down stats. I pointed you to this site at some point, I'm sure it probably got lost through all the other stats. It only gives one year but again, what you've done for me lately gives a much better indicator of what you can do for me moving forward than your entire career imo. The site i looked at Britt converting 17 3rd downs into 1st downs. That's 36% of his 1st downs coming when the team needed him to make a play on 3rd down. They only ranked that top 21 WRs and Garcon didn't make the list so I couldn't get his numbers. http://hosted.stats.com/fb/leaders.asp?type=Receiving&range=NFL&rank=104 In terms of cutting Wallace for Britt. I think Britt has proven enough to show that he'd be more of a consistent chain mover and could also provide the same big plays as Wallace, so imo it's an upgrade. I like Mike Wallace to be clear.

Aiken was the #4 on paper only. If you look at the number of snaps played Aiken played way more than Perriman regardless of being #3 or #4. Aiken had 595 snaps compared to Perriman's 485. So while Aiken was technically labeled the #4 WR he saw more snaps then the #3 because it's about the role each player plays. Unless Perriman just completely bombs during OTAs the Ravens will look to game plan him into the offense. He's a 1st round pick entering his 3rd year. They not only want to see if he can perform consistently, they want to see if he can possibly be that #1 type guy. So he's probably gonna see anywhere from 80-100 targets. By comparison he was targeted 66 times last year and that was basically as a rookie who missed 2 training camps. Now the coaches will have an entire offseason and training camp with him(hopefully). He's gonna be more involved period. If you're bringing in a strong route running play maker he'll definitely be on the field and I'd imagine he sees 100+ targets. So even if Wallace is labeled as #1 his snaps and targets will be cut into just like Aiken's was last year, because the Ravens are gonna almost force feed Perriman, hence the Aiken reference. So no matter where he's ranked on the depth chart, I doubt he'll be a focus point of the passing game most weeks. The Ravens won't be passing the ball as much as last year and the TEs will probably have a larger role as well, meaning more targets. I have no doubt Wallace will be here. The only way he's not is if he's unhappy that the team is trying to lower his 8Mil cap hit and things get ugly. My point is, what's his role? It will more than like diminish and I don't see the Ravens paying him 8Mil for a diminished role.

So your solution to poor salary cap management is to give us more salary cap space? Brilliant!
  28. 2 points
I have been hearing this since the day Joe signed his contract. "You just wait until the next QB signs his deal, then you'll see Flacco is only getting the going rate for NFL QB's". Well it's been 4 long years and every QB in the league has signed a new contract since Joe in 2013. Not one, not two, EVERY QB IN THE LEAGUE. But your right, I'm sure Romo and Cutler will be the highest paid QB's in the league this year. Wow.

If the Saints roster was closer to competing I'd have kept Brees, but they just aren't. He probably only has a couple great years left and I don't want to go all in, so I'll build a bit more towards for the future. Linebacker has been a long time problem and McKinney is a young freak. Jackson is still a really solid outside corner and should for a few more years. Also I think Brees has been traded like the last three years in this game which is interesting.

First off. Kaufusi is not a speedy edge guy. He's a big 6-7 280lb 5-tech so he won't play much on the edge lol I like lawsons talent, however I don't like his injury history same with lattimore. Douglas I'm not too high on. He kinda reminds me of William Jackson yet I don't see either succeeding at the next level. I'd much rather Fabian Moreau hes a great press corner with good feet and hips.I don't mind taking a chance on a talented player with major injury problems in the second round. Just not in the first like you have lawson
  35. 2 points
Heck, I think it's more than possible we could land Desmond King with our second rounder as we stand right now, and he'd be a great safety as well. Sure, I love Adams, but I'm not sacrificing grabbing starters/rotation in the mid rounds just to get him.
  36. 2 points
I think we have about 29 too many coaches, we just need 3, 4 max, head, oc, do, and st. The guys have been playing their entire lives, that's what college is for too, development, if they don't know to play by the time they are drafted, then they shouldn't be drafted.

Juice can carry the ball. Looked great doing it against the Steelers. Small sample size, but again, small sample size.. so you certainly cant write off his ability to carry, since we havent seen him do it much. Great lead blocker, good pass protector. Good out of the back field, can line up in the slot. And probably would be successful carrying the ball. Also ST leader and contributor. Pretty all-around FB imo. Wont cost too much to keep. Definitely worth while to me.

This is the only site where anyone will defend JF. It should have been Boldin in the route instead of Evans We win. No need for Cardiff to blow it 2014 The D failed on that trick play to the wide out and this year we should have scored a TD rather than a FG and also made a FG in the Steelers game I blame it ALL on COACHING. Hate to admit this but Bellichick has it all over everyone else.

Lol, regular season basketball is irrelevant now unless the Warriors lose. Then the rest of the league gets to gloat
  40. 2 points
Steph Curry missed a wide open game winning layup down by one. Steph Curry wears 30, the warriors lost by 1, 30+1=31, 31 with a hyphen is 3-1. The Warriors blew a 3-1 lead. Never forget

Lack of QB consistency It's irrelevant if Flacco is a great playoff performer if he can't get the job done in the regular season.

Joe's first deal was a mistake by the FO in terms of STRUCTURE, not in terms of total compensation. This I agree with. I think the FO didn't know how to handle a contract that size, and the way they spread out the cap impact and backloaded in tremendously definitely didn't help the franchise in the long run. However, the new restructured contract is what I think you see is the new norm for NFL teams. In the past teams would try to backload these deals, but teams are figuring out that flatter cap structures for the larger contracts are the better long term approach, even if it means sacrificing winning in the short term.

Trade up in the 1st round of the 2013 NFL draft for... EJ Manuel Or sit at 32 and pick... Geno Smith Legends like Tim Tebow, Matt Casell, Kevin Kolb, Matt Moore, and Ryan Fitzpatrick were veteran free agents at that time Or trade a whole bunch of capital for a QB that a team was willing to part with and let Flacco walk for a 3rd-round compensatory pick. Or, sign Flacco to a long-term deal he earned.

But he didn't end up with any less money. It just got shifted around.

I'd love Howard but just think we have bigger holes to fill than at TE unless those holes get filled during FA.
  46. 1 point
I doubt it is even in his mind because it has never been in any QBs mind. There have been no QBs that have taken a pay cut to their already agreed upon salaries (in fairness, the year Peyton won the SB he restructured his contract and converted 4 mil dollars into incentives. By winning the SB of course he was payed that 4 mil and thereby did not actually taking a pay cut. But this is the only case where this has come close to happening and clearly only occurred because Manning realised it was probably his last season). They just shuffle money around to help with the cap. But in no way shape or form are they receiving less money than they their contract stipulated. But when you do this you are pushing money down the line and the FO has to decide if that is a good idea. But I don't see any reason that Joe wouldn't do this if the FO asked him to, no matter how many kids he has. I am unsure how one who is a regular contributor in this forum has not been able to grasp this concept. It could just be selective remembrance.

if hes been arrested for it on 2 seperate occasions, its no longer just a young and dumb mistake, its just his behavior. im all for overlooking stupid young mistakes, but someone who just has bad judgement/bad character(as shown by multiple offenses of something that is totally intolerable), is a totally different animal. even a team with a stellar track record of characters cant afford the PR nightmare that comes with drafting high a player with 2 DV arrests, let alone the ravens. not to mention, dede westbrook is just not the kind of talent that makes you toss all concerns about character out the window. if the ravens are even gonna consider a guy with 2 DV arrests then he better come out of college looking like julio jones.
