Some people on these boards take the term "knee-jerk" to a whole new level.

If you had taken them, Flacco would have retired, Harbaugh would have quit, and we would have traded away CJ Mosley for a 7th rounder in real life. Come to think of it, some of our fans would love all three moves

Yep. By the way, we're working on a new system this year for the SoFs. It'll be done via Google Sheets. The pages and formulas will be set up so it'll essentially just require plugging in names, positions and values. The only calculation we'll need people to do is converting the total starting cap into Stars, and subtracting it from the league cap number.

Yea letting him walk is kind of mind-boggling. Adding him with yanda, Stanley and kicking Lewis to RT could really improve our OL. Just need that center position addressed. I'm more of a defensive guy, but I would have no issue letting Bwill walk just to sign him. Also, I know this wouldn't happen, but resigning Wagner and signing Zeitler would make me extremely happy. Not sure of Lewis could play center... Just a thought

Part of the Denver stuff was before he had the bipolar thing diagnosed but he does a lot for charity and the community. Plus if you had to deal with Gino Smith, Fitzpatrick, Hackenburg as your QBs you would probably want to leave town too.

Look, the fact that the OP just wanted to show some appreciation for one of our players, only to have it derailed by the usual trolls with the same lame "arguments" says a lot about those people, and nothing about Joe. Yawn...

I'm empathetic to most real life scenarios, but in a general sense, the weekend gives people more breathing room and choice of planning than the weekdays, which are far more probable to be filled with work, school, etc. for the participating members. To be fair, ravensdan did mention his hectic schedule, so that's a general comment and not one about his predicament, but he almost missed the deadline to sign up for the FM on a weekday and posted two days after the thread was created, so I doubt the weekend was the determining factor for missing a window that was 1/4 of that in comparison. In addition, members have known their placement since Thursday, a weekday, and they were welcome to leave their boards with others. That we're blaming the process and Saturday for being unfair in this instance is a significant reach.

NaVorro Bowman tops the list if he plays the same after the injury. Joe Staley's a solid LT. Their CBs aren't bad, and Carlos Hyde is a good starter when healthy. That being said, I agree that it's certainly an uphill climb and that the roster needs quite a bit of work. Kudos to @ludy51 for taking on the challenge. It's a good thing to see.

Ah, but it does not. Bryant was perfect from beyond 50 (it'd be 52) and it would have been 3rd and 23. The Patriots aren't going to sell out for a run. That means Freeman can probably get like 4 or 5 yards, at least, making it a very makable kick for Bryant. Why he decided to pass again with no Schraeder and a hurt Mack is... well, I have no idea why you'd do that again and risk another sack, another fumble, or a hold. The risk was far too great, even if the pass was initially completed. I hated the play call selection, too. Trust me, I thought it was bad, even with hindsight. I'm very much in the same boat of why not run off clock before you pass? Was he trying to catch them off guard and act all sneaky? It just wasn't smart.

one thing I've decided on linebackers after our last 2 draft picks in the second round is this: While speed is great, it is more important that they love football a whole lot and their football IQ is off the charts. For linebackers to be successful, they need to react quickly meaning diagnose plays fast and move fast. Now, if we find these guys and they happen to be really fast, even better. But, I would emphasize football IQ over speed.

Zach Orr working to fight opioid addiction is an awesome cause for a former NFL player. He is making an impact in his Baltimore community and the NFL community at large. People need to make a bigger deal about the drug addiction so many ex-NFL players face, and that doesn't even get into the US population at large. My hat is off to you Zach, you're really a great man.

Do you think that everyone else is drafting probowlers every round of every draft? Every team has more misses than hits and that includes the early rounds. Thats how it works. There are easily 15-20 other teams that would kill to have Ozzie as their GM 😀
  29. 2 points
No more John Carlson on that team but you still have Andrew Sendejo to put on the trade block so that should be fun
  30. 2 points
I don't think that's fair to Joe, Joe isn't some decent QB. In the current version of the NFL, there are only 7 QB's that have won superbowls including Joe. Of those 7 5 of them won superbowl MVP including Joe.

Given the events of the past 8 years for both teams it's safe to say the Ravens ended up with the right guy.

IDK, this is a weak FA class and there are teams with just incredible amounts of Cap dollars to burn. Those two factors, IMO, make it harder to get players to accept paycuts. Not to mention, we aren't the playoffs every year Ravens of 2008-2012 that players might want to stick around for. Plus, as Jacket said, paycuts alone aren't going to create that much Cap space. They most certainly are going to need to release some of those players. Lastly, dead money is what it is. It's not as scary or terrible as it's made out to be and is a natural part of most team's salary cap. Yes, the year with Ray Rice's ~$10M in dead money was bad, but that was an extreme circumstance. The dead money from most of the guys mentioned is a sunk cost - it's going to either be part of their Cap number or will be dead money if they are released. Again, it's going to be there one way or another (just different columns, so to speak). So, the real question with most of these decisions isn't about the dead money, it's the Cap savings. If the Cap savings is enough, the team isn't concerned about the resulting dead money.

We have lost players in free agency much more important and irreplaceable than Brandon Williams. I'm not saying he isn't a key cog - but IMHO losing him can't be compared to losing KO, for example... Guys, this is the cap system. It's easy to see the cap as a bad thing when your team is near the limit and it feels like a chokehold - but if the cap system wasn't in place, and the only limit on roster salary was how much money the owner is willing to spend on the team, it would be hell. Believe me: I'm European, and thus can see it every day in our soccer - so I can safely predict at least half of the NFL (and this is a VERY conservative estimation, believe me) would be in the hands of oil sheiks, Chinese and Russian and Thai oligarchs - most of whom could easily buy the entire NFL if they really wanted... Believe me: you wouldn't want that.

I looked at the game again, Ryan took and made some HORRIBLE decisions regardless of the play call. Remember when Flacco threw an INT vs the Eagles? Was it a good play call? No, but that throw he made was trash ...Ryan took some HORRIBLE sacks late game and had ample time to get rid of the ball.

You are correct. But for the most part he does all of the really important things that a receiver needs to be successful really well. He has very savvy and great route running, he is a big body that has length (I'm curious about his vertical though, I want to know if he can go up and get the ball), he has underrated speed and agility although not a total burner, and yes his hands are what will make him special. I have a high grade on him and if he's there at 16 I would need a compelling argument/player there to convince me not to take him

Sterling Shepard had a way better year than Mitchell and should've been on it. Noah Spence is on it. Micheal Thomas is on it. 3 future pro bowlers and both big areas of need......... Yet we chose the almighty KC??? Wizard of Oz or Wizard of Whiffs???

The real connection should be with senior bowlers and champions. The ravens have either targeted or drafted players with a championship often, like upshaw, Mosley, Jernigan, brooks, and then we wanted zeke, and then we've drafted the most senior bowlers in the league. Although I think the Bama connection holds some water more than some like to admit, not because of the number of guys we've taken but because of how high we've taken them, you can't convince me that if a guy from Bama and another player were a dead tie on ozzies board that he wouldn't lean one way because of his ties, I think that showed when he picked upshaw

WE have some guys who need to take the next step if we are going to get to where we want to be. Here are a dozen: 1. Alex Lewis.... I have a feeling we are going to let Wags walk which means Lewis will need to step up and be the man at RT 2. Breshad Perriman... We need him to become our # 1 WR (if not this year...definitely next) 3. Kenneth Dixon... he showed signs that he can be a workhorse type of back for us but we need him to take that next step 4. Darren Waller... the kid is a mismatch at TE and a freak athlete. Now that he has gotten his feet wet... we need him to take the next step and develop into a vertical TE 5. Maxx WIlliams... Man he has so much ability but appears to have the problem that a lot of gifted players due... they never had to develop the work ethic. Hopefully maxx makes the lead this year. (if not Nick Boyle will be kept and Maxx may be gone) 6. Mat Judon... he showed flashes of ability but with us likely to lose Elvis... Judon could be the man on a stacked defensive- if he can take the next step. 7. Tavon Young.... tavon showed sings of being able to be a quality starter in this league. Now he will have to string this work together on a consistent basis. I like his chances 8. Bronson Kafusi... if Kafusi can live up to potential.... he can greatly help our desperate search to improve the pass rush. And with his massive size he can help stop the run and reduce the impact that losing BW may cause 9. Kamalei Coreia... KC has a chance to step into a starting spot and fulfill his draft status... It was a big blow to lose Zach Orr but KC could really fill a need (as he was drafted to do) 10. Carl Davis... Davis showed a ton of potential in his rookie year but seemed to hit that rookie wall and never recovered. We need CD to take that next step (especially if we lose big Brandon). Davis can become a key piece in our front seven. 11. Chris Moore... We could very easily lose SSS, Mike Wallace and Kamar Aiken this off season. We will bring somebody in to help out at WR regardless if that means we retain Wallace, or bring in a FA or draft a WR or a combination of those possibilities. That should still mean that CMoore will have a great opportunity to earn himself some recognition and opportunity. He has the athletic ability but will need to put a lot of work in to bring his skillset up to match his athletic potential. 12. Maurice Canaday... CB out of VA, who is on our practice squad. Canaday showed a lot of potential in camp and our hopes that Sharece Wright and Jerrod Powers would live up to the hype left Canaday relegated to the PS. Canaday looked better then both of them (and could not have been much worse). I think he surprised people and takes the next step+ Looking forward to seeing him next season. Finally (Bonus) if Dean Pees don't take the next step and learn to close teams out... it will not matter what these young guys do. Pees needs to get better or we will miss the playoffs again... losing a bunch of close games in the 4th quarter and frustrating Raven nation to no end. (and costing harbs his job). Pees got to get it together quickly!

I agree with the idea that his legacy has more to lose than gain by coaching at this point. He's still a relatively young and relevant guy. He would like be squandering his opportunities elsewhere as an assistant LB coach.

I may be in the minority here, but I want no part of Ray Lewis as a coach for the Ravens at this time. I think he has too much of a "look at me" personality and would be a distraction. Plus, I have no clue whether he can coach or not. He is too big of a legend for him to come here as a coach and potentially fail. I can't imagine the backlash that would happen if he came here and failed as a coach and he had to be fired. Granted, I am all for him pursuing a coaching job if that is what he wants, but I feel that would be best in a different location for both him and the Ravens (at least until he can prove he's an effective coach)
