Well, actually, it does cut it. Look at the history of the NFL and tell me the team that is consistently good all the time. I mean literally pick anybody. We say that the Patriots are good all the time. Yet, for about the first almost 30 years of their existence as a franchise, they weren't that relevant at all. No SB appearances for the first 31 years in the NFL, and only two Conference Championship appearances in their first 26 years in the NFL. Stop and think about that for a second... how would you like to have a franchise that didn't play in a SB for 30 years straight? You guys freak out over 3 years. Most of you would have jumped ship after like year 10. Same thing with the Steelers. Viewed as this great, consistent, historic franchise who has the most SBs. Yet, they had a 26 year gap between SB appearances (never played in one in the 80s or 90s), and had only one Championship Game appearance in that same period. One Conference title game over 26 years. Can you imagine how you would react if that happened to a modern day team? Again, you'd have jumped ship long ago. Its called perspective. The best of the best franchises over the course of time win a Lombardi maybe once every 8-10 years, and literally all of them have 5-10 year stretches at least where they are largely irrelevant in the league.

    1. Cleveland Browns- Myles Garrett DE Texas A & M: Much like the Texans in 2014 when they took Clowney over a QB, I don't see the Browns passing on Garrett. Good building block for Greg Williams. 2. San Francisco 49ers- DeShone Kizer QB Notre Dame: What to expect out of John Lynch? Who knows, but they do need a QB. Kizer is here for now, unless they like what they see out of Watson leading up to the draft. 3. Chicago Bears- Jonathon Allen DT/DE Alabama: They could fall for Watson but Allen is too good to pass up. If the Bears plan on winning the NFC North, they have to get to Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford. 4. Jacksonville Jaguars- Leonard Fournette RB LSU: When the Giants won their Super Bowls, they had backs like Jacobs and Bradshaw to compliment Eli Manning. Fournette can be the compliment Bortles needs to take pressure off him and have a good running game to control the clock. 5. Tennessee Titans(via LA)- Mike Williams WR Clemson: The Titans reportedly like Williams and he would make for a great number one for Mariota. 6. New York Jets- Marlon Humphrey CB Alabama: Revis Island is sunk. Revis is old and his age showed big time last season. The Jets grab his replacement taking advantage of this great corner class. 7. Los Angeles Chargers- Jamal Adams S LSU: I had Hooker here but with his recent surgery I expect him to drop, a little. The Chargers missed Weddle, and get his replacement here. 8. Carolina Panthers- Solomon Thomas DE Stanford: Charles Johnson is a free agent, if they bring him back this pick changes. For now, the Panthers get a stud pass rusher as they look to rebound and get back to the playoffs in 2017. 9. Cincinnati Bengals- Derek Barnett DE Tennessee: If the Bengals cut bait with Adam Jones for his latest stupidity, this changes to Lattimore. They need someone opposite of Dunlap, and Barnett could provide exactly what the Bengals need to jump the Steelers & Ravens in the division. 10. Buffalo Bills- Deshaun Watson QB Clemson: Someone will fall in love with Watson. Whether it's the 49ers, Jets or Bills remains to be seen. With Tyrod Taylor expected to be gone, the Bills finally hope they found their franchise quarterback in Watson. 11. New Orleans Saints- Reuben Foster LB Alabama: The Saints defense is still a mess, taking a LB like Foster could help turn things around. 12. Cleveland Browns(via PHI)- Malik Hooker S Ohio State: I'm dropping Hooker for now but not too far. The Browns need safety help and take advantage of a top prospect falling to them. 13. Arizona Cardinals- Corey Davis WR Western Michigan: Fitzgerald told ESPN that he is coming back for 2017 but they need someone for the future. 14. Philadelphia Eagles(via MIN)- Dalvin Cook RB Florida State: Carson Wentz is going to have input on what the Eagles do this off season and a RB like Cook will most certainly take pressure off Wentz. 15. Indianapolis Colts- Marshon Lattimore CB Ohio State: Chris Ballard knows the impact of a talented corner as he was there when the Chiefs drafted Marcus Peters. This will provide a huge boost to the Colts defense that badly needs improving. 16. Baltimore Ravens- Quincy Wilson CB Florida: I think it's time we get a legit corner opposite Jimmy Smith. We can not go into 2017 with Wright as a starter, Tavon will make for a great nickel and a solid 1-2-3 punch with Smith/Wilson/Young and Double W(Webb and Weddle) at Safety. 17. Washington Redskins- Zach Cunningham LB Vanderbilt: The Redskins can upgrade from Will Compton and Mason Foster. 18. Tennessee Titans- Jabrill Peppers S/LB Michigan: Tennessee grabs their Safety of the future. The Titans need to upgrade their secondary, and get a major boost here, 19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Christian McCaffery RB Stanford: With Doug Martin's suspension and the fact he's cooled off since his rookie year, the Bucs are ready to move on from him. They may trade ahead of Philly for Cook but for now take the third best RB in this class. 20. Denver Broncos- Cam Robinson OT Alabama: No matter who the Broncos franchise QB is, Denver needs to upgrade their protection. Robinson is great value here and can immediately start at right tackle. 21. Detroit Lions- Caleb Brantley DT Florida: They took A'Shawn Robinson last year but having someone who can grow along side him for the next 8-10 years would be ideal. 22. Miami Dolphins- Taco Charlton DE Michigan: Mario Williams is likely to be released, and Miami needs some young pass rushers. 23. New York Giants- Jarrad Davis LB Florida: Kelvin Sheppard is a FA and will need to be replaced. 24. Oakland Raiders- Malik McDowell DT Michigan State: The Raiders need to improve their defense, as they were ranked toward the bottom of the league. If the Raiders want to take the next step, improving the defense is a must. 25. Houston Texans- Mitch Trubisky QB North Carolina: The Texans ownership has already said Osweiler will have competition next year. Trubisky will fall as soon as the height concerns(shorter than what North Carolina lists him at) become reality. That won't stop Houston as they are in need of a true franchise quarterback. 26. Seattle Seahawks- Ryan Ramcyzk OT Wisconsin: The Seahawks offensive line was the weakest part of the team in 2016. An upgrade at OT is needed and Ramcyzk will give a boost to Russell Wilson's protection in 2017. 27. Kansas City Chiefs- Takkarist McKinney OLB UCLA: Dee Ford is entering a contract year, will KC give him the money he's looking for? If not, they can prep another pass rusher to take over when he leaves. 28. Dallas Cowboys- OJ Howard TE Alabama: The future after Tony Romo is clear, Dak Prescott. Jason Witten is playing at a high level but grooming his successor would be wise. If this happens, Dallas' offense will be set for the next 10-15 years. 29. Green Bay Packers- Sidney Jones CB Alabama: The Packers secondary makes our secondary look good. An upgrade is badly needed as they can not continue wasting away what time Aaron Rodgers has left(Turns 34 in December) 30. Pittsburgh Steelers- TJ Watt OLB Wisconsin: James Harrison may comeback in 2017 but they need to find some young blood. Watt would provide Pittsburgh a talented pass rusher opposite Bud Depree. 31. Atlanta Falcons- Dan Feeney G Indiana: Chris Chester is a free agent, and part of the Falcons success is because they invested in their offensive line. They continue doing so here. 32. New England Patriots- Tim Williams DE Alabama: Yeah Williams is likely to drop to the second round but the Patriots did pick up Michael Floyd after his DUI. Chris Long and Jabaal Sheard are free agents, so the Patriots take a gamble on a troubled player and will be called geniuses and that this was a great move, opposed to someone else taking him and being called a bad pick. Ravens Round 2-4: Round 2, Ethan Pocic C LSU: This may be a reach in the second but Travis Frederick was a reach when he was picked too. An upgrade over Zuttah is needed, and giving him competition may light a spark under him. Or Pocic will out perform him, take over and help lead our running game to great success like he did for Leonard Fournette. Round 3, Tyus Bowser OLB Houston: We pay lots of attention to the Senior Bowl, Bowser was the sack leader for Houston and showed off his coverage skills during senior bowl week covering a first round prospect in OJ Howard. Ozzie and co will snatch him up and make him another senior bowl standout drafted by the Ravens. Round 4, Cooper Kupp WR Eastern Washington: We haven't addressed WR yet in this draft but something tells me we may do so in FA like we always do. So while it took a while, we finally get that WR to pair with Perriman.

So I guess the guy who held the Tennessee sack record before Barnett was no good either.....what was his name? Oh right, Reggie white. Guess all those lineman must've moved out of Barnett's way for 3 years since hes just "not good".

Yeah so many draft gurus agree that Barnett is not good. Have you been under a rock?

Well Steve believes in Harbs leading the team in 2017, so our fans should respect that... So you want our owner acting like SD and Rams owners who refused to upgrade their stadium and ended up going to their neighbor and sharing their backyard? You want our PLS owners and fans who are paying tickets to the game sitting in old stadium without perks and conveniences? when other team continue to upgrade their stadium to accommodate fans' interests? PS: don't take things for granted.....look around the league and see how lucky we are to have Steve as an own who cares about the Ravens nation and the fans....

So what will it take to make you "happy"? What "ratin" is your standard? What INT is "acceptable" to you? A team that has two 14 point leads on the team that goes to win the SB and blows them....Clearly was the QBs fault. I will wait for your standards of stats, but im sure you wont even have any. Side-note: I still think we missed big time by not signing Alex Mack. The Falcons OL all started the entire year together if i remember correctly, has the best WR in the NFL (imo) and the best RB duo in the league (most people's opinion). I would love to have any of that here, hell, i would settle for just Mack. Stats are cool and all, but there is one that matters more and Joe already did that.

Man, I have to ask, what is with the spelling? Well there's a certain reason that Rodgers has had better years than Joe's, Aaron Rodgers is a better QB than Joe Flacco is, plain and simple. The difference between you and I is that I know what Joe is and what he wont be AND am ok with that, its that easy for me. He is the exact opposite of Peyton Manning who seemed to always choke in playoffs while Joe has elevated his play in the post-season. If your going to compare the two, it would be fair to bring up that Rodgers sat behind one of the best QBs in NFL history, now I don't know how much that matters but its worth mentioning. And all this about comparing the two, Rodgers has him beat in every category yet they have the same amount of SB wins. The thing with how much QBs are paid, like I have stated before, is determined by what the team is willing to pay, hence market value. Brock Osweiler is a perfect example, it isn't based on JUST performance, hence why Brock got paid and yet is hilarious to watch throwing a football, the Texans would have beat the Pats if they had almost any other QB in the league. I bet you weren't complaining when Joe was on his rookie contract. Every year there is 31 teams that make mistakes and the fans will think the sky is falling, as this team does even when we win, just not by enough. Mistakes are part of the game, we have two SB in twenty years, a lot better than most franchises. While I am not content with that because obviously I want to keep winning, but acting like the FO has no idea what its doing is just absurd because we don't have a QB that throws for 5k yards, 40Tds and makes 10mill a year.

Don't know how much many of you know of BW. My fiancee works with kids with developmental disabilities and every time they ask for someone to visit kids, help with fundraising etc... who has been the Ravens to show for the last few years? Brandon and Crocket Gilmore. His camaraderie in the locker room that has been shared on many tweets shows just how much he is loved. He is willing to take a reasonable discount just to keep his kid in school here. AND he is the best nose tackle in the league, which, of course, is the most important. The days of letting our quality players go because we could find gold in dog doo no longer exists. Next man up is a great strategy if you have the cap space to load your roster with next men, we don't. Accumulating a billion draft picks by letting skilled players walk is now a failed strategy (which Ozzie showed last year by going out on the first days of free agency and snatching up quality free agents.) We will get just one comp pick for KO this year and we really tried everything to keep him but you can't pay a guard left tackle money unless you have a rookie QB making just 4 mil a year. We don't have that. Anyone who thinks we will just be fine letting quality players walk, getting comp picks and hoping the next man up will be good enough needs to reread the first paragraph. That strategy worked great but is now obsolete and defunct in todays NFL.

Love it but no way in hell does kupp last until round 4. There is talk of him sneaking into the back end of the first. Realistically I see him being taken in the teens in the 2nd. Everything else is spot on. Don't think Jones falls that far but certainly possible.

Imagine that! 9th ranked Oline and all the "apologists" did was blame the Oline for Flacco's ineptitude. Many a QB could take a 9th ranked Oline deep into the playoffs I just get tired of hearing"Joe needs this, Joe needs that" I guess we need 10 starting first team pro bowl players on offense around Flacco to make the playoff. Its 9th ranked by PFF... who, while are very valuable for individual player ratings, seem to vary wildly on the OL ratings as a whole. Yes, #9 ranked, but we never ran the ball so their terrible run blocking didnt bring their grade down as much as it should have. And, i believe the #9 ranking is the rating of the 5 starters together - so Stanley, Lewis, Zuttah, Yanda, Wagner.... who played a sum total of 4 games together. 4 wins by the way. So, actually, yes. thanks for pointing it out - with a #9 ranked OL Flacco does win. It's when you have to put out 8 different starting OL combos in the other 12 games with guys like Hurst at tackle, they struggle. And not just Joe, the run game as well. The 9th ranking is for the season. It ranks in game performance as a unit over 16 games. This was not a ranking based on potential of the "starting 5" Oline men as you erroneously stated. Flacco can't win without superstars around him. There's no doubt about this. It's already been established.

I am just glad we have a team that invests money in keeping their stadium up to date and looking good although to be fair, we actually show up when our team plays
  28. 3 points
The very best response here! This was actually what I thought even before reading the content of the headline. Flacco is no rookie! Can you imagine discussions year in and year out about how to help Ed Reed or Ray Lewis? Simple solutions-- a pass rush helped Reed get more picks, beef on the D-line meant Ray didn't have to take on O-linemen routinely... Flacco? O-line... wait, maybe a slot receiver... nah a deep threat... but it could be a running game... with or without a bruising back... nah we need one that can catch out of the backfield... C'mon! Flacco isn't a baby! His salary screams that he should elevate the talent around him. He just needs to put in the work-- be obsessed with winning!!!!!!!!!
  29. 3 points
Flacco should help himself by helping himself.. Practice in the Off-Season with live WR's. Have passion for the 20 game season, passion in your own way but still a burning passion for 20 games then we will see the results.. its starts from within. Namaste
  30. 3 points
RR, Pitta and Matt Birk all top 10. Others like Flacco, Boldin and McKinnie had great post seasons as individuals and contributed big time with "star like" performances. Don't think you could say it was game planning that put them over the top.
  31. 3 points
I think you could put Rice in the top 5 of RBs that year, 1600 total yards and 10TDs. Im just fine with role players actually, id rather be well rounded than dependent on a single super-star
  32. 3 points
idk about that. I'd take Wallace over Torrey and Perriman over Marlon Brown. And I'll take our current OL over any including Gino Gradkowski and AQ Shipley. Then theres a healthy Pitta. I think we're underestimating how bad 2013 was.
  33. 3 points
Sounds about right. He would be ~32-33 by then which is roughly when those guys start to decline (looking at guys like Vince Wilfork, Casey Hampton, Kyle Williams, Sam Adams, etc). He's in his prime
  34. 3 points
Let's just say, a superstar WR like him would be out of our price range.
  35. 3 points
    1. We let Boldin go for cap space. It was never about "getting anything back for him". 2. So McPhee was a good investment at $7.5M a year as a "security measure"? I can promise you wouldn't last a year as a GM paying $7.5M a year for a guy to be a "security measure". As I said, when you pay him that money, he's your #1 pass rusher. So it would actually be somebody like Doom or Suggs who would now be the "security measure", and they're paid relatively close to that as well. 3. Teams let blue chip players walk every year. The Patriots literally traded away two blue chip players in back to back years, and they're in the SB. And of course the Raiders understood value... they spend a decade sucking and finally hit homeruns on three quality draft picks, who are all playing on rookie deals. When you're best players are all playing on rookie deals (see Seattle a few years back), you can spend practically anything you want on anybody. Now when Carr, Cooper and Mack all break the bank on their next deals, guess who they are going to look to move on from first? That's right... the All Pro LG who is getting paid like an All Pro LT. He will be gone. In fact, his contract is structured so that this will happen. 3. All of those teams you listed have let good players or even great players go. The Patriots trade away one of their best players on seemingly an annual basis. They've let quality players leave via FA. They let Revis and Browner walk one year after both were key in winning a SB. The Broncos lost Trevathan and Malik Jackson in the same offseason. Those are blue chip players at their positions. They play elsewhere. This ain't rocket science guys. 4. We also signed plenty of players during that time... just some of them didn't work out. We extended Pitta and Jimmy (our most valuable defensive player by a wide margin). We traded for and extended Monroe (hindsight a bad deal). We signed some FAs that paid off and some that didn't. That's the NFL.

Prob not the place for this but did u guys just get the notification that Zuttah is now in the pro bowl? I mean... congrats to him. But was the center position really that bad this year??? were talking we need a serious upgrade at center and here he is making the pro bowl.

Ozzie can't catch a break with you people sometimes: --If he takes a gamble on a receiver and misses (Clayton) he was an idiot for trying. --If he picks a solid, no-gamble starter (Stanley) he was an idiot for not trading up to get a more dynamic player like Bosa or Ramsey. --If he trades out of the first round entirely to accumulate picks, he was an idiot for not staying put and getting round 1 talent. --If he trades up to get a projected good talent (A Brown), he was an idiot for wasting it on someone we eventually waived and who never started. --If he doesn't trade up, he was an idiot for it. --etc. Isn't it more fair and more accurate to admit that drafting is really difficult, and subject to the same laws of probability as everything else? Ozzie gets love because ON AVERAGE he does better than a lot of other managers, not because he's infallible. Best kicker in the league? Undrafted rookie. Our starting O-line? A 4th round pick and a 5th rounder in there. Osemele and Williams, late 2 / late 3 got so good we couldn't afford to keep them! -------- And this idea that Ozzie has been whiffing on first round picks lately is ludicrous. -Stanley will be a perennial pro bowler if he stays healthy. -Jimmy Smith was such an important part of our defense, we couldn't win without him. -Perriman had a couple great catch-and-run plays just like Julio this season, so who's to say he's a bust at this point? Injuries are basically random. -CJ Mosley is a seriously good player, and is only going to get better. -Matt Elam sucks, no getting around that one. But everyone else in the league thought he was a great pick at #32, so what you gonna do?

Here we go Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun believes the Ravens "would at least inquire" about Brandon Marshall if he becomes a free agent. Marshall is owed a reasonable $7.5 million in the final year of his deal, but the Jets can save all of that against the cap if they release him. Considering he has seemingly worn out his welcome in the locker room and is clearly on the downside of his career, it would not be surprising if they move on. Marshall would fit right in with Derrick Mason and Steve Smith Sr. as veteran receivers the Ravens have added at the tail-end of their careers, and he would offer a good possession presence opposite Mike Wallace or Breshad Perriman. If Marshall is cut, the Ravens should be one of the favorites to land him. Source: Baltimore Sun

I respect your opinion never said you were wrong, I just don't agree, that's the beauty of an opinion. I see how people can dismay his sack production and I agree, He doesn't have the great athleticism or prototype body for the position however neither did suggs, yet they both produced at a high level. In my eyes, if you can get sacks in college consistently, you can do so in the pro's Like I said I respect your opinion, were all entitled to one. I have my reasons anx you have yours. At the end of the day one of us will be wrong.

  45. 2 points
Yes it is and the film supports it. His step doesn't have to be the fastest in the class for it to be good. He doesn't have to sprint across field and chase down a sweep from the backside to be a good run defender, as a matter of fact it's better to stay home and pinch the backside and tighten up lanes. not sure what you mean by instincts but he times the snap well, he knows run vs pass, he hits he right throwing lanes on his zone drops, he executes the bend as soon as he gets a step past the tackle, and he can dart inside when the tackle overcommits to the edge. I honestly have no idea what you're referring to with Barnett

When playing the pats the issue isn't covering small shifty receivers, because only Edelman and amendola(who is essentially a backup at this point) are small and shifty. Chris hogan, Malcolm Mitchell, and Michael Floyd are big bodied guys, the shiftiness isn't why their receivers get open, it's the scheme. These guys are schemed open by running routes at different depths, keeping guys close together and then breaking them off in separate directions, it causes clutter in the secondary and guys get lost or break off to cover the wrong guy. If you wanna talk about stopping the patriots, you need he savviest corners, not the quickest. You need guys who can cover from different depths, so you can have one guy jam and the other guy sitting back waiting to pick up the route, guys who don't get mixed up and communicate well. In this case, if we're worried about stopping the pats, or the steelers who run basically the same philosophy, tre white is the best bet for immediate production, he's feisty up front and he's smart and never gets confused by varying routes breaking in front of him. Sidney jones will probably handle this well also. The rest of the guys you just have to hope can develop enough mentally to handle these concepts and at that point it becomes a crap shoot
  47. 2 points
We have receivers. We need to learn to develop them and Flacco needs to learn to do that as well and read coverages and defenses. It's a reason other QB's are so good when it comes to undrafted or later round receivers. The development process is key. Our guys run deep routes and routes across the field all the time, weak. Develop these guys route running, foot work, breaks, change of pace, dropped hips, eyes, hit fakes, and understanding of coverages
  48. 2 points
Most of it is a crapshoot, I'll give you that, but we have not been drafting well for many years. Mosley and Jimmy were good but not great, they've both had their share of ups and downs. Using Stanley as an example is trendy but shortsighted, he's played 1 year. Pump the brakes. Perriman has proven nothing yet, he can't even consistently crack the starting lineup. Well Perriman really played only one year and never had a full training camp yet.So if you don't want to judge Stanley yet, then let not judge Perriman yet. Merryjman was right on point. How could you blame Ozzie? Point me some GMs who had done better than him. Ozzie only first rd bust recently was Elam. How can you said Mosley is just good. 2X probawler in the last 3 yr. Also forget about the early rd picks or late rd picks. It is all about how many good starter who get from a draft. Ozzie and our staffs have been master in that domain. Give the man credit
  49. 2 points
Disagree with first part, agree with last part. Ozzie and Steve have said many times that free-agency hijinks are good if you're trying to build a championship team that quickly disintegrates afterwards, but that's not their aim - they want to have a decent shot at making the playoffs every year. And with the exception of the 5-11 season, that's what we've had for a decade: a team that gets close to, or into, the playoffs every year. Even this 8-8 season had us very close. But that last bit about Joe working more with the receivers - I agree with that. I used to buy into it when the team would say "oh, no, Joe doesn't need that, he's got it figured out" but that approach has clearly not worked. Especially in the case of Perriman, and especially now that #89 is gone, Joe needs to develop rapport with those guys. I think the case of Hogan illustrates this most clearly. It's not that he is some amazing undiscovered gem, it's more that Brady is the GOAT quarterback, and he and Hogan worked tirelessly until they understand each other - to the point that all Brady has to do is look at him and Hogan will adjust his route at the line. He gets open all the time because Brady tells him where the defense is going to have openings!
