    Who wouldn't want a Hooker?

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000775730/article/xavier-rhodes-leads-top10-no-1-cornberbacks The ranking is just the Top 10 #1 Corners in terms of passer rating allowing when in coverage, but the write up on Jimmy points out a few key stats. The 45% catch rate of receivers in his coverage was 2nd lowest in the league, and the just over 9 yds per reception in his coverage was THE lowest. Also, in looking at the team passer rating chart... you see just how dominant our right side coverage (defensive) was.... where Jimmy mostly lined up. Nice to see someone outside Baltimore taking notice of Jimmy's dominance, and diving deeper than just INT's and break ups to show statistically how great he's been. Also nice to have that validation and some concrete numbers to throw at fans of other teams when I argue with them that Jimmy definitely is a Top 5-10 CB in the NFL... and they disagree just because they haven't heard of him.

Loss of games is the number one reason we are not in the playoffs.

perriman with a full offseason and coming in healthy and in football shape rather than rehab shape, getting some actual developmental reps rather than trying to master the playbook, getting to be a top target rather than an afterthought in the playbook because hes stuck behind 2 high performing veterans. seriously, my hype for perriman is at an all time high, even more than seeing him week 1 this year, i expected a very slow start and possibly thought i would even be disappointed, but his presence was felt and he outperformed my expectations and now im expecting a big leap and i cant wait. dixon who was my 2nd favorite back of the draft and i had him as an early 2nd round talent, and he played like a man possessed once he got healthy and caught some steam. hoping marty feeds him the rock because he is probably the best talent out of all of our offensive skill players. cautiously excited about maxx williams, really hoping he can get healthy and break out. matt judon and tavon young, these guys could be special. if judon can get his conditioning better he is gonna be an excellent 3 down player.

Not sure if I've read anything questioning Jimmy's abilities in coverage. But stating the obvious, you can't cover anyone standing on the sideline in street clothes.

4th qtr collapses. How I would solve that problem? I would grab a certain DC by the belt loops and do a 1.....2.....3 heave and see how far he can fly.

It's gotta be Dixon for me. Watching him progress as the year went along, watching him consistently breaking tackles and almost never going down on first contact, gets me pretty pumped to see what he can do with his rookie season under his belt. If we beef up the Oline and perhaps get a decent center in here after watching Zuttah regress, he can have a stellar year next season. I truly don't understand the buzz for another running back. If Dixon and West aren't consistently being hit in the back field I do believe they'd break more long runs. I think we need to focus this offseason on other needs.

Cant wait til next season when the offense is drastically improved... the run game is top 10, maybe top 5, and Flacco is incredibly efficient. And all the people hating the decision to keep Marty are saying - See knew it all along, coming in mid-season is difficult for anyone. All he needed was an offseason, a good OL, and a focus on developing a run game! EDIT: Love getting negged for saying the Ravens will improve. People would rather be right, than have the Ravens be good.

I'm more of a trade down guy honestly. I know it sounds nice to go and get «your guy» but it's just not worth it imo. I mean we are one C, pass rusher and CB from being elite. This class is so good at either position, it's now or never. We could walk away with a younger and very complete roster, after 3 years of rebuilding. I know it would be nice and all to have a «special» player but there's a difference between being audacious and impatient and in this precise draft class it would mean the latter to trade the house for one guy.

It's official Zay Jones is amazing Ozzie draft that man please

i will say without question that i think jimmy smith a better cover guy than any of them, i think ive seen each of those guys get toasted in very limited watches(ill watch maybe 3 or 4 games from them per season) more than i see from jimmy in all of his games. ive seen sherman get beaten deep many many times, i dont see talib get beat very much at all but his utter ignorance separates them, norman is pretty scheme locked but he doesnt get beaten much, peters is a feast-or-famine guy who loses far more than jimmy, peterson is an exceptional athlete but he gets beaten by the elite route runners whereas jimmy shuts down AB almost every time he plays him. i honestly feel like if jimmy smith was given 3 fully healthy seasons where he wasnt rehabbing all year and playing out of shape, he would be the best cover corner in the league during that span. he would have the lowest target, completion, YPA, and passer rating-against numbers league wide, he does it year after year while playing at far less than 100%. its really a shame he cant stay healthy.
  15. 5 points
i disagree - yes depth is helpful but we're missing game breakers, playmakers and stars

Orr was one of the few people playing well against the Pats. He did great, and it wasn't because of others around him.
  17. 3 points
Ben is all about the drama ... and that's all this is.
  18. 3 points
It's a fair point for sure. He hasn't been as healthy as any of us would like. But... while most who know the game will recognize Jimmy as a very good #1, he is not recognized even largely by our own fan base for how good he is. When on the field he has consistently been a Top 5 CB. Hes avoided regularly... and when tested receivers catch passes at a near League worst rate for THE least amount of yards. Basically receivers in Jimmys coverage are the least productive in the NFL compared to pretty much every other CB. Ultimately that's the corners job - to not allow his receiver to produce. It's not about INTs (though they're nice), and you don't have to tip the pass away -- if your guy isn't catching the ball, and when he does it's for minimal gains then that's all that matters. This shows Jimmy is on par with, if not better than, the Peterson's, Sherman's, Talib's, Peters', Norman's, etc... of the world. Not that he or I need the validation... but for all the attention and fanfare those guys get Jimmy Smith is CRIMINALLY underrated both nationally and by many in this fan base. Dude is elite. Top 3-5 CB in the NFL and at least work is being done now to illuminate that fact.
  19. 3 points
Because there are only a finite number of DC jobs available in any given season, and there's practically no coach that has the ability to be picky about where they want to go.
  20. 3 points
And Matt Ryan played the same for years, too, until he got a good OC and tore up the league this year.
  21. 3 points
So true. And I get negged just for agreeing with your assessment. Lol The pettiness.
  22. 3 points
I'll own up to it. I didn't like that all he ever showed as a corner was press coverage and I hated how slow he was to turn his hips in college, I also Never said definitively that he wouldn't translate, I said that he was a risk to take so high because he hadn't shown enough real coverage skills which was totally true at the time since his college career was basically a highlight reel of big hits and very few plays made in coverage. Hindsight 20/20 but yeah He had a good rookie year. Glad he taken though because if not we wouldn't have Stanley who is looking like a top 3 LT for the future.
  23. 3 points
Gonna have to agree. The draft is basically a crap shoot and the more picks your holding the better the odds to hit the jackpot. I always remind myself Antonio brown was a 6th rounder. That speaks volumes.
  24. 3 points
Depth is key but you also need quality starters and we're lacking that in a lot of areas. This team certainly needs a lot more than just depth right now.

I've hated Ray Lewis since he retired. He's been annoying on TV and way too me me me...No ray it's not about you. I think Ray would be an overbearing coach.
  26. 2 points
Hes also a really smart kid. He's a double major in accounting or finance or something like that. He's prepared to have a long NFL career
  27. 2 points
At least he played like the highest paid CB in the league when on the field. If we get him for full healthy seasons going forward the contract will be a steal in comparison to what guys are getting now. His value was never more apparent than this year where when on the field we had the leagues best pass defense without a consistent pass rush. When not on the field we struggled to be average. He literally shuts down his entire side of the field and allows the safeties to focus their help to the other side. I know everyone loves to glorify the CB's that follow the #1 WR around... but you could argue a guy like Jimmy shutting down one side is more valuable. It allows the defense to dictate what they want to do. Whereas even if your top CB is doing well shadowing the WR1, the offense can move him around the formation to create matchups and space elsewhere. Man if Jimmy stays healthy and we can find a legit starter to pair with him on the other side... and be able to keep Tavon in the slot where I think he's best - our secondary is lock down.

i do just want to be clear that im not implicating any of the players i mentioned - i was just wondering if their stock would fall just because of how widespread and systemic the allegations are

Damn here I was getting real interested in Kyle Fuller. Oh well if he was part of this then I don't want no part of him. Let the facts come out 1st but will they before the draft.
  31. 2 points
so essentially the talking heads needed to dive deep and create a new line of stats to note that jimmy smith is formidable, and really these stats shouldve been around for a long time because they are the only true indicators that a corner is good in coverage, but this is what it takes? sad thing is, half of our fanbase is still gonna call him a bust for some ridiculous unknown reason.
  32. 2 points
I have seen kickers kick 70 yard field goals through the uprights one after another before the game. Then in the game they can't kick 40 yard field goal attempts straight. Being a good kicker in the NFL is about handling pressure well. Tucker seems to excel at that.
  33. 2 points
I would love to have Brandon back. He's a baller but we all know we can't afford to keep everybody especially with the multiple holes we have to fill.
  34. 2 points
Keep in mind Brandon came in after the 2012 season. Since then Ravens missed the playoffs 3 out of 4 years. That's not a strong argument to say take less to win more. I agree that Williams is a must keep. He makes smaller size LB like Mosley better and everyone on the D-line is better because of Williams.

Three seconds left in the game. Down by three or less. Ball on our 45. Just sayin'
  36. 2 points
Oh best believe, he's getting his money. Now whether if it's with the Steelers is the question at hand.
  37. 2 points
When selecting a good corner that falls to 16 there's gonna be a weakness somewhere, I'll take that weakness being in run support considering I could care less about run support from a cb
  38. 2 points
That being said, if Quincy Wilson falls out of the top10 I wouldn't mind trading a 3rd round pick to get him. I'm not against a little trade up to get a guy who's falling near our pick and that we absolutely want.

Joe Flacco didn't regress. Joe Flacco set personal and team records for passing yards, 4340 yds exceeding his best previous season by 400 yrds. In 8 seasons he now holds Franchise records for Yards, Compltetions, Touchdowns and Wins. Not just that the yards, QB ratings and all the stats were all either very close to his "normal" above average NFL standards, Joe Flacco continues to endure a what some would call a revolving door at the OC and QB Coach positions. Some untimely Wide Receiver moves, injuries and FA situations have caused cohesive Offense execution. Not to mention an Offensive Line that went through a complete overhaul with the exception of Pro- Bowler Marshal Yanda. Lastly a severe season ending injury that luckily only cost Joe 4 Games and with tremendous off- season re-conditioning he came back, played a full 16 game season with a brace on his leg. He set personal records. His team was not full strength and his Offence fielded at times 5 rookies out of 11. Pro-football Report, one of the leading national syndicated sports statistical co,reports the following; comparing for the same year of their careers- in Years - the Quarterbacks who's career was of similar quality and shape- Year 5- Jim Kelly*, Ben Roethlisberger, Fran Tarkenton*, Joe Namath*, Ken O'Brien, Aaron Brooks, Doug Williams, John Elway*, Bernie Kosar, Jay Cutler Year 6- Ben Roethlisberger, Fran Tarkenton*, John Elway*, Jim Kelly*, Warren Moon*, Steve Grogan, Eli Manning, Drew Bledsoe, Aaron Brooks, Ken O'Brien Year 7- John Elway*, Ben Roethlisberger, Jim Kelly*, Drew Bledsoe, Eli Manning, Jim Everett, Ken O'Brien, Tom Brady, Fran Tarkenton*, John Hadl Year 8- Eli Manning, Mark Brunell, John Hadl, John Elway*, Ken O'Brien, Drew Bledsoe, Jay Cutler, Bob Griese*, Jim Everett, Steve McNair I would not classify this as regression. A poor Team season yes.

I was working at the time the Senior Bowl was broadcasted so I just started to watch the youtube most recent upload. Jeez, those jerseys make me wish I was colour blind. Is it really that hard to use a white/blue vs silver/red combination or similar?

Heard the Ravens are making signing Williams a priority. Hope thats true and they do it soon, before free agency starts.

oh yeah hes dark, its really disturbing sometimes(like where hes at right now leading into season 4... what the hell man), i just wouldve really preferred to see a real actor play that part, but kanaan is supposed to be a dirty grimy dude and i guess 50 does that pretty well. man catch back up lol. it gets a little strange halfway through season 3 and it just seems like a different show for a few episodes, but then it all jumps right back in your face at the end. im so hype for it to come back

i still think kupp is undoubtedly better than jones. his separation skills, deep speed, twitch, acceleration, all of it are better. hes got better pro tools and kupp is no slouch in catch radius/contested catch/general toughness either.

I put my whole vote behind Zay Jones! We need this guy!

Does anybody know the difference in buying seats on the pre-sale through the NFL and waiting for the sale to PSL owners later in the year? Are the prices different? Do PSL owners get better seats? Any knowledge of differences is appreciated. Trying to decide where to buy the tickets. Thanks Steve

Yea, not too many teams have a Bell or a Brown, let alone both. Is there any other team that has both? Since the Steelers won their last SB, they have one playoff win.....yea, sign me up Your right, Suggs and Doom arent JJ Watt, you know why? Watt played a whopping 3 games this year and most likely is never going to be the same again with all the injuries stacking up on him. How many other teams dont have AP, Beckham, Brady, Sherman, Chancellor, Gronk (hurt again), Kuechly, You act like having Tucker as an elite player is bad, who missed one FG because it was blocked. He is worth more points than a lot WRs but everyone wants that sexy player, like all the ones you listed. Your post is useless, just stating all the good players around the league that we dont have proves nothing, what is this Madden? Not every team has elite players, clearly. When we won our SB, did we have any elite players? You could throw rice up at the top of the list, but the reason we won was because we were a well balanced team on both sides of the ball. The word elite is so overplayed and is meaningless. What is your definition of elite anyways? AJ green is a top WR yes, how many playoff wins does he have? How many does Watt and AP have?
  49. 1 point
No question there were inconsistencies on the team as a whole. I think what many have issue with is placing blame solely on One Twenty for the offensive inconsistency, as if to say if there weren't better, more consistent, reliable players(O line, WRs, etc.) on the squad it wouldn't have helped Joe through some tough stretches that all QBs go through. Think of Ben and how poorly he played much of the season. Do you think the steelers are in the playoffs if he had the Ravens WRs, O line and running backs? Me thinks not.

I don't believe we need to draft a Running back at all this upcoming draft maybe a mid round qb instead
