http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000775730/article/xavier-rhodes-leads-top10-no-1-cornberbacks The ranking is just the Top 10 #1 Corners in terms of passer rating allowing when in coverage, but the write up on Jimmy points out a few key stats. The 45% catch rate of receivers in his coverage was 2nd lowest in the league, and the just over 9 yds per reception in his coverage was THE lowest. Also, in looking at the team passer rating chart... you see just how dominant our right side coverage (defensive) was.... where Jimmy mostly lined up. Nice to see someone outside Baltimore taking notice of Jimmy's dominance, and diving deeper than just INT's and break ups to show statistically how great he's been. Also nice to have that validation and some concrete numbers to throw at fans of other teams when I argue with them that Jimmy definitely is a Top 5-10 CB in the NFL... and they disagree just because they haven't heard of him.

Not sure if I've read anything questioning Jimmy's abilities in coverage. But stating the obvious, you can't cover anyone standing on the sideline in street clothes.

It's official Zay Jones is amazing Ozzie draft that man please
  4. 5 points
Dang...hated that he left. I could have seen him promoted to DC if Pees falted in 2017.

dude is making himself lots of money, even if he didn't quite get that second foot in that was a circus catch
  6. 3 points
Because there are only a finite number of DC jobs available in any given season, and there's practically no coach that has the ability to be picky about where they want to go.

Just FYI, Tom made $28.7M playing football for the Patriots this year. Cap hit and what he actually gets paid are two different things.
  8. 3 points
And Matt Ryan played the same for years, too, until he got a good OC and tore up the league this year.
  9. 3 points
What will the Ravens do with Mike Wallace? Really? Given that he's the only legitimate NFL receiver we have on the team I hope they are smart enough to keep him.
  10. 3 points
Being actually healthy instead of coming off an injury when you clearly are not healthy is the first big step. Flacco got that injury too late in the year to be fully recovered in time for the season and that was a big deal.

I think Joe will improve this year, last year the knee may have played a role in his happy feet pocket dances, but we need to RUN the ball, it's the only way to help Joe on third downs, so sick incomplete on 1st down , 2 yd run on 2nd down, and 3rd and long, let the big dogs up front do some paving , try to get 3rd and 2 or 3 , that will help Joe...

Idk how to get everyone to see it, yet I feel like everyone should look into this because it shocked me. http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2017/1/25/14374698/what-if-cowboys-had-listened-to-espns-mel-kiper-and-todd-mcshay-in-the-last-7-drafts In this article is a ranking of teams drafting 1st round prospects from 2010-2016 and who nailed their picks, it uses AV (approximate value) to determine the rankings. The ravens.....are 32 on the list. That's last folks..... We nailed Stanley so this ranking should change as long as he lives up to his potential and as long as we nail our 1st round pick this year.

If Zay Jones keeps this up he could end up being the third or fourth WR off the board
  14. 2 points
Zay Jones continuing to make cash
  15. 2 points
Zay freaking Jones no longer projected as a 4th rounder. Kyle Fuller holding scratch him he pulled a Zuttah. Penalty bringing back a TD
  16. 2 points
Zay Jones holy cow what a freaking amazing catch.
  17. 2 points
Damn here I was getting real interested in Kyle Fuller. Oh well if he was part of this then I don't want no part of him. Let the facts come out 1st but will they before the draft.

On the subject of Marlon Humphrey, I finally got around to really watching him and I feel like the opinions on here are way too biased and strong and very parroted. I understand he doesn't have the most fluid or agile hips and that he can sometimes get beat by a receiver with a lot of suddenness (Brown, Edelman), but he's got excellent length, height, weight, and I expect him to kill the 40/vert/broad. I think he will surprise people with his cone drills and shuttles. I think he's a lot more fluid than given credit for. I think he's very average in that department with most people thinking of him solely as well below average. He's got the ability to just line up with a number one receiver and press and ride them down the field. He's also got very plus anticipation and awareness. He seems to understand his limitations with change of direction and reads his receiver so well to already be a step ahead of his man to really beat them to the spot of the ball. I really like that. He's heady and can play press, zone, and off because of his awareness and anticipation. Would I want him at 16? Over a Barnett/Wilson/Jones? No, definitely not. However, let's say those three are gone after a run on corners. I think you could do a lot worse than Humphrey.

so essentially the talking heads needed to dive deep and create a new line of stats to note that jimmy smith is formidable, and really these stats shouldve been around for a long time because they are the only true indicators that a corner is good in coverage, but this is what it takes? sad thing is, half of our fanbase is still gonna call him a bust for some ridiculous unknown reason.
  20. 2 points
That I highly doubt. He's extremely athletic in all areas (I expect him to kill the combine) and he has excellent anticipation and awareness. Just not the most fluid/agile.

I think that it would be very difficult for an all world superstar hall of fame player like Ray to be a coach. There is no doubt that he can teach anybody the game, however it would be torture for him to stand there and watch players under perform while he is helplessly standing on the sideline.

I have seen kickers kick 70 yard field goals through the uprights one after another before the game. Then in the game they can't kick 40 yard field goal attempts straight. Being a good kicker in the NFL is about handling pressure well. Tucker seems to excel at that.

Agree, Patriots don't have a great pass rush but their secondary makes them look like they got pass rush That's because all of their guys have been playing together for years. Only two players have been on different team (Eagles) for a short time and they have a secondary General: Devin McCourty. (7 years). Which brings up again two questions. 1). Do Ravens suck that bad a player selection? 2). Or are the coaches doing a bad job? We've not drafted CBs with high pick in the last decade, save for Jimmy Smith, and despite multiple efforts to find a value pick in later rounds, only Webb and Young come to mind as successes. We have been slightly better with veteran FAs - guys like Graham, Williams, and Stewart have done well enough here to price themselves out of our willingness to pay to retain them. Perhaps the reason we haven't taken the secondary more seriously is that we had stability with Ed for so long, and we've usually managed to generate a pass rush. Weddle is finally a stabilizing force at the back end, but our pass rush has really fallen off. our secondary covering for 3-4 seconds at the most is not enough for a pass rush until we have a good secondary there will be not pass rush mark my words Yeah you might want to go back and look at 2014 for why this isn't true. Our pass rush was very good that year, and our secondary was as abysmal as it gets. Far worse than anything we've seen the last two years.
  24. 2 points
Pitta was a terrible blocker. Was not getting YAC. He is over-priced right now and we need to let are younger guys develop.
  25. 2 points
Regarding point 1 - I'm not sure it would make a different. Those guys know their role. They play within the system. When a player goes to NE, he knows he's not going to be "the guy", or a super star. The players that last on that team understand one thing: Win, even if it means I won't be a superstar. It's attitude, culture.

I wondering when does the statement " You can't teach an old dog new tricks start to come into play? Joe's played practically the same the last 4 years. Yep. Prior to the injury, he was the same. I hope he somehow does learn "new tricks" in 2017. I would love to see it. But I doubt it.

Looks almost like the Ravens think Joe will magically play better this year. I hope they are taking some concrete steps to improve his mechanics that we don't know about. Otherwise 2016's 24th ranked QB likely will continue to struggle - as will the Ravens.
  29. 2 points
And you forgot about the part where they go to other teams and struggle for the most part...

Ngata made $12M/year back in 2011 and played a different position than Williams. They won't pay Brandon that much.
  31. 2 points
Nice sentiment by DeCosta, and the Ravens may make what would otherwise be a reasonable offer, but Williams will be relatively overpaid by someone else. We should let him walk and hope he earns us a 3rd round comp pick in return (as KO has). Pierce is a solid replacement, and actually has more burst up the middle to put pressure on the QB. If for some reason he can't do the job, you know Ozzie & Co. have their eyes on another great NT that none of us have even heard of who will plug right in, just like Gregg, Williams, and (hopefully) Pierce.
  32. 2 points
Keep in mind Brandon came in after the 2012 season. Since then Ravens missed the playoffs 3 out of 4 years. That's not a strong argument to say take less to win more. I agree that Williams is a must keep. He makes smaller size LB like Mosley better and everyone on the D-line is better because of Williams.

Haason Riddick who I mentioned earlier is tearing up the senior bowl so far. He can rush the passer and cover anywhere, his speed sets him apart. Can play outside and inside linebacker He's a first rounder and a possible target for the ravens.

But I also like names I saw play who are not on the list I know are good like Moton OT Western Mich 3rd rnd projection Dorian Johnson OG Late 2nd likely to eary 4th rnd projection Nico Siragusa OG 3rd to 4th rnd projection Greg Pyke OG 5th rnd projection Eflein OC 3rd to 4th rnd Projection

Zay Jones would be a helluva guy to get in the mid rounds. GREAT hands, tough.... He's surely put that small school stigma to bed. The more he impresses, the harder it will be to steal him tho.

Cooper Kupp had a 38 yard kickoff return to start the game

Hurst has played 3 yrs for us and is not very good but I would like to see what Nembot and Wesley can bring to the table if Wagner leaves. Kyle Fuller is a guy at C that I like who is playing in this game.

Ozzie usually does a good job drafting talent along the O-Line; the center position since Matt Birk left is the glaring exception (Gradkowski in the 3rd was a bust, AQ Shipley was too small, and Zuttah gets pushed around too much). The question is, do we want to move away from a zone-blocking style line (generally smaller, quicker, more athletic guys) to more of traditional in-line/trap style line with beasts up front that can win 1-1 battles, but maybe can't get to the second level as easily. I used to love watching our line with Ogden and Zeus break the huddle and dwarf the opposing D-Line - it was like men against boys. Alex Lewis can move to RT if we draft a Guard and Center, and there are guys who were protected by the Ravens by being placed on IR. Tackles Stephane Namebot and D'Ondre Wesley could slide in at RT, or move inside. On the practice squad, Skura has some intriguing upside, and local product Broxton is a mauler at OG (needs to improve his footwork, though). Not sure we'll keep Ducasse, who has issues in pass coverage. Hurst, Urschel and Jensen are good options as back-ups and should compete for starting roles. Hurst looked rough as a rookie LT last year, but remember that was his first year back after a major leg injury his senior year. Before that, he was touted as one of the top tackles in the country.

I see a less grabby, more well rounded Trae Waynes.

I think he would be great for football, hopefully Baltimore,The Ravens, The fans and but most of all the Players. Of course, that is only my opinion as a huge fan af Ray Lewis and The Baltimore Ravens. I wish him luck if he were to pursue this idea, hopefully it would be very fruitful and rewarding.

Our offense has been so vanilla for so long that it's almost like why bother. Development has been tough for a lot of our players, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Flacco and the coaching staff just don't have the ability to out scheme other teams, so it's almost better if we keep it basic and hope we have the players for the job. Time to beef up the line and get a nice shift WR to work the middle like an Isiah Ford

Remember Michael Singletary. It just ate him up.

I'm still a big Harris fan but his hot time on the forums came a few weeks ago, I think we discussed him into the ground lol. Hes got the best first step in the class imo, and he has great rush moves, I don't love his bend though and that's my only issue. But he would bring something we don't have and that's an elite speed rush that also converts to inside rush moves. I'd take him at 16 no problems
  47. 1 point
31 other starting QBs are not doing that but then again they also are not in position where they have nearly the sponsorship dollars he does and more importantly a wife bringing home 40 million per year so you don't need to worry about theextra million here or there.

we can't win unless flacco plays better an we need to run the ball more but that being said if the ravens drafted a RB in the first round that might force these "coaches" to run the ball. but I personally think it would be a mistake to draft a RB in the first round But as far as mike wallace goes ask him to take a pay cut or get rid of him he's good but not worth 8 mill. Then the TE situation I say cut both Pitta and watson saves money an we have some good young talent at TE to replace them. The biggest need is at CB and there is plenty of talented DBs in this draft so I would love to see us load up an get 3-5 DB 2-3 CB 1-2 Safeties but unfortunately we might draft just 2 like last year. As far as pass rush goes I think we have some good talent with Judon and smith but if we don't have a secondary to cover for more than 3 seconds how are you supposed to get any kind of pass rush going so that being said solidify the secondary then worry about the pass rush

They are kids, it's time to act like adults and talk to them and straighten them out. I understand that this is something they as young men need to do for themselves however, this is a work environment that rewards it's employers with stellar play...not a model citizen. If this guy is the best available, we can not afford not to pick him up. The same way we passed on Tyronn Mathieu*
