I know we're coming off a heart breaking season... but why are people acting like we're so far off? Making statements like we cant field a contender with Joe's salary?? Can anyone really say with a straight face we're that far behind Pittsburgh? We mopped the floor with them once and wouldve a 2nd time if not for a 4th qtr collapse on defense.... and they're in the AFCCG. THE AFCCG PEOPLE! Is there anyone that can tell me with a straight face that we couldnt have beat Miami in the WC Round and then beat the Chiefs given the performance they put up? I'm not saying it's perfect, or that all is rosy. There's plenty not to like, and plenty to be fixed. And that only furthers my point... with all the flaws that we've pointed out time and again, we're still just a couple inches behind the team thats in the AFCCG this coming weekend. So - we dont even necessarily have to fix all the flaws. If we improve, we should be in a good spot again. And we will. We've got about $16m in cap space right now; with another $10-15m likely to come off the books in the offseason. With $20-30m in cap space we should be to resign the guys we want, make the additions we want, and with any luck we'll get contributions from drafted players along with other guys currently on the roster stepping up/improving... and we'll be right back contending next year. With literally no run game to speak of, and an incredibly inconsistent pass rush we're literally about as even as can be with the team in the AFCCG right now. Right.... but we cant ever win with this QB and his salary. GIVE ME A BREAK

all this crying about Flacco has forced to me to watch other Qb's who "hit their receivers" in stride and it's BS. Rogers threw a pass that was under thrown for a TD. His receiver adjusted his body accordingly and made the play. He then rolled into the end zone. I don't want to hear anymore how Flacco may over or under throw some targets, if you can make a play then make it. EVERY QB doesn't put it right in your hands, sometimes all they can do is give you a shot to make the play. Why is this thread still going? what else can we possibly stress about Flacco improving and the front office putting better pieces around him. We know what must be done. Every team left standing how a weapon with the exception of Rogers who's playing out of his mind.

I just hate it when a player who struggles with us goes on to look great elsewhere. I'm not sure what the reasons are, but it is never a good look for the coaching staff.

are you really equating sss and mike wallace to nelson/gronk - and lets remember that early on in the year rodgers struggled and it was blamed on nelson still recovering from his injury

If we would have beat Pittsburgh, we would have beat the Bengals. To lose a game the way we did in Pittsburgh then have to play a game that means nothing is a hard thing to do. Oh, come on. These are outrageously well paid professionals. Their job is to play the best they can - no matter what. Ray Lewis said that one of the most important traits of good athletes is to forget the past and future on any given gameday, and be able to only concentrate on that one game, regardless of what happened before or will happen afterwards. If someone is paid half as much money as these guys earn, the very least thing they should guarantee is that the give their all in any game. For professional athletes like them, even trying to hide behind such an excuse is borderline insulting IMHO.

Steelers Patriots game: I'm rooting for Tomlin to try and trip a pats player and some assistants to punch some patriots players who wander onto their sideline, while at the same time for more and deeper Patriots cheating to be exposed irrefutably on national television. I'm tired of media even bringing up this "Is Joe elite?" question. The answer is no. However, after watching these playoff games, you can see without at least a good QB, your team won't go far. Alex Smith looked pathetic against the Steelers poor defense. If he was a little better, Steelers would be home. Waste of a good regular season and great defense. Same story with the Texans. Brady made enough mistakes to lose, but Brock is not good enough to take advantage. Joe is not elite and Ravens can't get out of the fact that they had to over pay him, but Joe is good enough. Marvis Lewis and Andy Reid wish they had a QB that could win playoff games. If Ravens run the ball more and upgrade the DBs and Wrs, I think they are good "enough" to beat a lot of the frauds like Dolphins, Chiefs, Texans that made it to the playoffs.

"Green Bay Packer have notched 24 touchdowns and one interception since Nov. 20. By comparison, the Ravens scored 32 touchdowns all season." This. Just this. P A T H E T I C!!! As to the Flacco question, I know it wasn't a serious one, but still - NO! Not by any standard whatsoever does Flacco qualify elite. He doesn't even deserve to be in the same sentence with these other AFC QBs on that list. The only thing Flacco is elite at is being the most inconsistently performing, mind-numbingly average quarterback.

I think it's great if you have a superstar RB, but before I do that, I'd want the OL in place first. With the short shelf life of RBs, I'd want to be getting the most out of my guy for as long as I can if I'm taking one as early as Zeke went. Zeke has a great OL, and combined with Zeke being great, that was an obvious recipe for success. Howard put together a good year, but I don't think there's much question that Zeke is the better all around back. On the other token, you have someone like Gurley who is supremely talented in his own right, but couldn't do anything behind the atrocity that the Rams had out there. All in all, it depends on where you're at with your team. I'd still prioritize building the OL first before making a large investment into the RB position. I think you can make that investment, but it depends on how the rest of your team shakes up. I think it made a ton of sense for Dallas.

Every time we have a run game conversation I get confused. Here are my questions. If everyone says 4 out of the 5 parts of our line was so good, can a bad center really wreck an O line or are we over valuing some of the other parts? Why did we not run behind our full back more? Why are all of the coaches surprised we did not run more, don't they call the plays? Why are we staying an a Zone scheme when it only worked the Kubiac year, our line was made to maul not finesse?

So the Ravens won the 2012 SB by defense? You mean the defense that was 17th in YPG allowed in the regular season, 20th in rushing YPG allowed, and 12th in PPG allowed, giving up 21 points a game? That defense? The one that gave up 35 points to Denver in the playoffs and 31 in the SB alone? The defense that gave up 468 yards and 182 yards rushing in the SB alone? That defense? Boy you better wake up and wake up fast. The 2012 Ravens defense was average, bordering on bad for large parts of the season.

So when years we actually had weapons for Joe, and I don't know win the SB, that's not good enough? It blows my mind how people think the FO has done any type of a decent job giving him weapons and blame Joe. 2014 was a great year, we had a run game and SSr was still balling out, Torrey stretched the field and we should have beat NE....that was on the defense.

Just imagine if we would have had Lewis and Brady on the same team. We would have used the Steelers as a toilet paper for over a decade. And who knows, maybe Lewis would have taught Brady how to be a man, instead of being a little whiny crybaby he is today.

Who cares if its the Patriots or Steelers? As long as they lose in the Super Bowl to Green Bay or Atlanta. The same teams is just another factor killing the NFL. NSCAR attendance dropped after 5 wins in a row by Jimmy Johnson. Besides, this is the year of the outsider, Cubs won the World Series, Army beat Navy, and nobody thought Trump was going to win so I'm hoping Atlanta.

I can't stand fans and media that say we were inches away from the playoffs. As I remember it we were inches shy of beating Pittsburgh but far from the playoffs. We did completely get blown out by the Bengals the following week. So that's one lose and a few inches away from being tied with the Steelers. Wake up we aren't that close in fact we could be getting even worse next year you never know.

I actually see the a lot of Julio in Perriman. Problem is Perriman was less polished out of college and got hurt right away. I think in a year or two he will break out. Obviously we cannot count on him being as good as Julio, but I do think those splash plays he made were a sign of things to come. Need a guy to develop him more. Also watching Tevin Coleman yesterday reminds me a lot of Kenneth Dixon. Except I think Dixon is harder to bring to the ground. Ravens need to get him going. Hopefully this Roman signing is a sign the Ravens will actually give Flacco some help with the run game.

http://deadspin.com/5866292/the-feel-good-scam-of-owning-the-packers And I quote. "You don't get a real say in the team. While a share does confer voting rights, the Packers make very clear that you have almost zero say. Under the heading "Limited Influence," they do the math for you: because there will be at least five million outstanding shares, your vote might as well be worthless. And since no one is allowed to own more than 200 shares, you can't buy clout. Even if you could, most votes concern electing members of the 45-person Board of Directors, who in turn select a seven-person Executive Committee, which is the braintrust that makes the actual franchise decisions."

OK, so I hate the P*triots. and I hate Br*dy. I think I hate them more than I hate the Squeelers. While I hate the Squeelers, I do respect them as an adversary in our Division. So, as much as it pains me to say it, I think I have to root for the Squeelers to win on Sunday. When either of these guys goes to the Super Bowl??? And the Packers beat the Falcons??? I will be rooting for the Packers... Go Pack Go...

This article has much jibberish contained herein. The reason Hester came alive was the change in coaching. No mystery there. The notion that this year it's all about offense is bogus. Pburgh yesterday failed to score one single TD. All points came from failure of their offense to get the ball to the end zone. You might say special teams but not offense won that one. I did see some offense in some of the wins, but the statement that 'it' was all about offense this year just ain't so. I realize though, that this time of year it is difficult to come up with good material for these articles, so I forgive. My main concern is what will be done to motivate this team going into the next season. And I don't see much forward progress so far. I saw a lot of manufactured excitement in both of yesterday's games due to officiating discretion. One time I saw a pburgher basically body slam a KC player to the ground and got away with it. Meanwhile some more questionable behavior was called by the refs. We all know pburgh plays dirty and try to intimidate opponents on and off the field. I think the matchup between them and NE is appropriate. They really deserve each other. And if the NFL is wondering why viewership is down, the idea of one team going to the championship game for umteen years in a row may be the reason why.

As I watched the playoffs so far one thing became quite evident - for all the talk about hitting receivers in stride, these guys on these top tier teams don't do that either. The difference? Their receiving targets jump, turn, run comeback routes, tip toe at sidelines, fight for the ball. We don't draft impact players period. We just don't. Now, is that a scouting issue, an Ozzie issue, a develpment issue? I don't know but it is definitely a major issue. Our guys on offense are not just sub par talent to the weapons afforded these playoff QBs, they are not even within the same universe. This is a big, big issue and until we've found the problem and fixed it, not sure we see the big game again. I do understand that some of that lack of impact players are a result of draft pick position - but a lot of these guys were available when we picked, and we passed them by. Which makes me lean more towards scouting and Ozzie issue. Sorry, love Ozzie as much as the next guy, but perhaps his method has become obsolete.

Ideal situation for me is the Packers win it all. Only good thing about a Patriots win is Brady hopefully retires, but their fans are second on the list of my most hated, just behind the Cowboys. Anyone but the Steelers, please.

The problem with Lewis is that he was asked, as a 6'6 mammoth who I don't believe had interior experience, to become a dancing bear in a zone scheme that requires phone booth quickness. There's a reason you don't see a lot of 6'6 guards, especially in teams with zone schemes. They tend to lack pad level, flexibility, and quickness, three essential traits of zone blocking guards. I would bet that most zone blocking guards are in the 6'2 - 6'4, 310 pound range, as opposed to the 6'6 330 that Lewis is. He'd be fine in other schemes where he doesn't have to worry about simultaneously sealing and driving defenders. If you let him just attack the defender across from him instead of making him dance with the defender, he'd be able to focus more on that pad level and get drive.

have to agree flacco is not a top qb. he only average and should be paid as average. wake up, if hes dissatisfied let him test free agency he'll never get close to what hes getting, hes is only one dementional longball and that's not accurate. LOL, Brock Osweiler is getting $18M in FA and Kirk Cousins is probably about to make as much or more than Flacco. If Joe were a FA today, he would get more than what the Ravens are paying him. Exactly. Matt Ryan, Matt Stafford, Derek Carr, Jameis Winston & Marcus Mariota will be FA over the next 2 years. Joe's contract is going to look like a bargain....
  48. 2 points
True. Brady has reinvented himself and has been a player than the offense has revolved around from the beginning. To go along with talent Brady has competitive fire and looks to be the type that will try anything to not only win but improve his game. I don't get that same impression from Flacco. Flacco doesn't even have a pro bowl on his resume yet. On another note----- The guy is a mediocre quarterback that can succeed if the right pieces are around him. Most quarterbacks fit that profile. Flacco is a game manager and to the people that believe some team is going to give up multiple first rounders for this guy....LMAO. That ship sailed after the Super Bowl offseason, the curtain has been pulled and Joe has been exposed for what some thought he was. The front office doubling down on that dumb contract instead of cutting the cord at the earliest opportunity is down right stupid.

Yeah agreed. We need a couple of guys, Wagner included there, but Yanda, Stanley, and even Lewis is a nice building point. A lot of people will knock down Lewis but I think he really started to come into his own before he got hurt.
