theyve raised ticket prices 1x... ONCE in the last 8 years. And with all the investment theyre putting into the stadium - what do you want them to do? Why do Ozzie and Decosta get a pass for drafting? Ummm... theyre not just getting a pass - they got an A from where im sitting. Franchise LT who was the best pass protector in the entire league down the stretch (per PFF), a legit lockdown type CB, a day 1 above average starter at guard with huge upside (they said they see KO potential in Lewis, btw), a very good situational pass rusher in Judon with big upside, an UDFA gem of a DT who could allow us to walk from BWill, a special teams ace in Moore who showed glimpses of great route running at WR, Dixon came on big down the stretch and is a legit potential lead back..... And that doesnt even include the potential in our 2nd and 3rd round picks. Kaufusi has elite short area burst and many saw him as having monster potential as a pass rusher... some even gave him a rd 1 grade based on his short area burst and strength... and Correa we'll see. But they ACED this draft. Could wind up as one of our best 2-3 drafts in history. And yes. They addressed wanting a dominant run game.... and how you need a dominant OL to do it. Which they see as a priority, along with adding talent at RB. Anything else?

Cant wait til next season when the offense is drastically improved... the run game is top 10, maybe top 5, and Flacco is incredibly efficient. And all the people hating the decision to keep Marty are saying - See knew it all along, coming in mid-season is difficult for anyone. All he needed was an offseason, a good OL, and a focus on developing a run game! EDIT: Love getting negged for saying the Ravens will improve. People would rather be right, than have the Ravens be good.

no, the QB is on my team as well. I payed for him to have surgery and all his bones were replaced with titanium rods. His muscles are all wrapped in a proprietary carbon fiber / kevlar composite. He will never injure a muscle or break a bone. So, no the starting QB will never go down. and no you can not tour the facility where my team practices.

I'm more of a trade down guy honestly. I know it sounds nice to go and get «your guy» but it's just not worth it imo. I mean we are one C, pass rusher and CB from being elite. This class is so good at either position, it's now or never. We could walk away with a younger and very complete roster, after 3 years of rebuilding. I know it would be nice and all to have a «special» player but there's a difference between being audacious and impatient and in this precise draft class it would mean the latter to trade the house for one guy.

I don't know how you can say Weddle is overpaid, he was THE reason why our secondary turned around. Best FS we have had since Reed left, another field general.

we havent exactly had the most fair sampling though. 2013: the team was totally dismantled, that team was a mess, we were in the middle of bryant mckinnies downward spiral and trying to transition to eugene monroe, we depended heavily on ray rice who clearly had taken a horrible left turn, torrey smith was our #1, our centers were historically bad, marlon brown was our #2... kinda hard to hold this one against joe, even though he didnt play well that year, its understandable. 2014: things came together. kubiak came and was a great fit for joe. owen daniels played at a near pro bowl level and was an incredible security blanket. steve smith was a man possessed this season. our OL was elite and healthy for most of the year and was being coached in the best OL scheme of all time and we had a rb who executed the scheme to perfection. in this season joe played better than he ever had, everything worked, and our season ended with flacco once again playing lights out in the playoffs @pit and @NE, so much that he brought us 2 14 point leads in NE and the secondary blew it. 2015: a disaster year. james hurst was starting at LT for most of the year. flacco had delivered 2 game winning TD passes perfectly into crockett gillmores hands and he blew it both times. we had zero pass protection once again. our revolving door of a wr corps consisted of kaelin clay and that guy we signed from STL(cant even remember his name a year later). joes top man went down midseason and a few weeks later he tore his acl because of his horrible OL play. 2016: still recovering from said ACL, o-line is just as bad, if not worse, for the majority of the season. run game is historically bad for the franchise. game winning TDs dropped against the raiders and redskins. goes into the bye week hobbled and still recovering, clearly he improves along with the rest of the OL as he suddenly has better protection once stanley comes back and zuttah gets healthy again, he has a very strong second half to the season, does enough to get us into the playoffs minus a hiccup game vs NE where the gameplan was just totally broken and not in our favor, and in the end our defense lets us down and gets us eliminated. and in this same game he had 2 sure TD's dropped, one possible TD that wasnt played right, and a crucial 3rd down conversion missed inside the 5 because pitta inexplicably flailed his leg into the air and failed to get it down in bounds. definitely 2, possibly 3 or 4 TDs that never were, because his team let him down. this game was a blowout if these guys arent letting him down over and over. flaccos performance needs some context man. he isnt the best qb in the league, not by a long shot. but he isnt the problem with this team, dropped passes, horrible pass protection, injuries, and just a lack of talent in general are the problem with this team. flacco is let down by his players so much its sickening that the fans dont even realize it.

WEDDLE: $13M guaranteed for 4 years. $26 overall. For 2016... Base was $1M; Signing Bonus @1.75M; and Roster Bonus of $1M.... WALLACE ..... two years and $11.5 million. The deal is really for one year and $5.75 million with an option for another season worth $5.75 million. Wallace got $4.5 million signing bonus to sign in Baltimore with a $1 million bonus due in March of 2017. Problem is people want us to bring in good players, then they don't think they deserve to get paid.... I'm not thinking this guy was overpaid this year.... Not for all the leadership he brings to this team. $3.75M? I think he's worth every penny.

Sidney jones will be a legit corner. He is technically sound, plays the run, has nasty ball skills and seems to have great awareness while the ball is in the air. Jones, Smith, Young and Powers would be a solid group with hopefully one more addition ok this draft.

ROUND 1- Charles harris OLB Missouri This one was tough. I have a feeling were trying to keep teams from thinking were taking a pass rusher from the state of ravens address today. So I tried to be realistic here. I was torn between him and takk however i feel we need a player who can make an INSTANT impact on the team, takk has talent and i would t mind takimg him here however i dont think he will be ready year 1 to make an imediate impact. I either don't think Tim Williams will be here and if he is I dont think we will take a chance on him. Not when you have a guy like Harris or Takk who don't have any character concerns He's not a complete pass rusher like Harris. Harris has a great first step, the ABILITY to bend, and has several good pass rush moves to his arsenal including a devastating spin move. Suggs can reach him a little about run defense ROUND 2- Jourdan Lewis CB Michigan https://youtu.be/yhHIVaPRnUo Great cover corner. Mirrors better than anyone in the country and is willing to get physical in run support. A+ athlete with the ability to return kickoffs maybe even punts. Him and tavon young can be out future in the secondary and dont be too worried about size. Size doesn't mean everything, it's how big you play that matters ROUND 3- JAY Guillermo C Clemson https://youtu.be/o5uMiAEwt5Q Sorry only tape I could find Really stood out the last 2 weeks against some of the most athletic fronts in the country and more than held his own. Great run blocker and should be an upgrade over zuttah ROUND 3- Chris Godwin WR Penn st https://youtu.be/dHCwL5J8jyM When harbaugh talked about getting another complementary receiver this guy declared nearly at the same time so I had to dig into his tape. He looks like exactly what we need. He's a great possession receiver and knows how to go up and get the ball. Better athlete than given credit for. Another option I like at receiver here would be Taywan Taylor from WKU or copper kupp but I think kupp will be gone by now. ROUND 4- Will Hernandez OG UTEP I couldn't find any tape on him but I've heard very good things about him. Ive heard good things from him according to SI and he's graded as the best run blocker according to PFF. It might be too early for him but if we really want to fix our oline and want to be able to run the ball consistently again we have to take this kid into consideration. Rounds 5-7 I have no idea at this point lol but I know I do want to take Taylor Reynolds CB out of JMU at some point maybe as an undrafted FA i think this kid has a shot to play in the pros. After all JMU did win the FCS national championship. I tried to be as realistic as possible and I didn't take into account any free agent moves. Let me know what you guys think!

Don't get the talk of drafting a RB. With our glaring needs at CB, edge rusher, safety to replace Webb (if he is indeed a cap casualty), center, right tackle (assuming Wagner will be too costly) and overall depth on the OL, the need of a 3rd RB seems pretty far down the list.

I dont see you giving Joe any blame for inaccurate passes, throws behind receivers when they couldve run for tons of YAC had he hit them in stride... throwing receivers into contact, over/under throwing wide open guys, staring down Pitta when someone else is open elsewhere, threw into double/triple coverage instead of throwing the ball away, throwing bad picks in the red zone, et cetera, et cetera... Again, im a Joe fan. He gets more blame than he deserves from a lot of people, but he does deserve some blame... he downright under performed this year. And last year even before the injury. Going hyper defensive of Joe is just as bad as bashing him incessantly. Especially when the people youre getting defensive with arent even bashing Joe. It sounds like youre saying Joe does no wrong - its everyone else around him letting him down. Receivers, OL, Coaches, FO,... Yes they all share some blame, but so does Joe. An equal amount.

he will take over in week 4. this draft is deep with cb's and edge rushers. hope the fo trades our late rd picks to move up or grab an extra 2nd or 3rd, pierre garcon or possibly kenny britt but i wish we could develop receivers for once. still hoping perriman and chris moore get it done

Not really. Every position group should have a dedicated coach for when the offense breaks up into position groups for individual drills at practice. Mechanics are a muscle memory. They should be drilled constantly and when they arent they can be lost. And having an outside eye look at the mechanics and provide critique is always a good thing. Developing poor mechanics also can become a muscle memory which can be hard for one to see whats wrong by him or herself to correct them. A QB coach should have a wealth of knowledge on specific drills, exercises and environments that correct, promote and then build upon those mechanics. Plus, having a QB coach gives Joe someone who is with him closely every day to be an extension of his voice in the coaches room and meetings. You see great hitters go into slumps all the time. Much of the time its bc theyve developed a bad habit, or with their changing body they need to also change the mechanics of their swing. They could have done it one way their entire career with success, but then they work closely with a hitting coach and he sees whats going wrong, and advises the player on how to fix it. Shorten the swing, change stance, etc... Its not like the guy was hitting wrong before, and a player could change their swing mechanics several times in their career - none being wrong... just different things working at different times. I mean these guys have been lifting weights since probably middle school... why do they need a strength coach? Theyve all been playing football since they were kids - why do any of them need coaches at all?

Flacco is what he is, and likely won't change. He's a largely durable, strong-armed QB that can make about 2 reads, doesn't feel comfortable under pressure (especially up the middle), has better things to do in the off-season than work with his receivers, is not very capable at checking out of plays on the line, needs constant attention to his mechanics, doesn't have touch on a deep ball, can't anticipate receiver's routes or lead them open but can drill them when they are, and needs play action to help his receivers get the clear separation they need for him to feel comfortable to throw. Now, to get the most out of Joe you first need the right offensive scheme (balanced running game with play action passing and more vertical/deep routes), next an effective offensive line (scheme and coaching first, then talent), and finally WR's who have truly elite route-running skills to get significant separation (Mason, SSSr) to complement burners who pull the secondary deep (Torrey Smith, Perriman, Wallace). I'm convinced he went on the tear he did in 2012 is because Caldwell and Boldin told him to throw to Boldin even when he looks covered, and trust Q to win the battle for the ball (so of course we released him the following year, SMH). Since we won't fix offensive scheme or O-Line coaching this year, we should next get a bigger, nastier center and left guard (assuming Lewis moves to RT), and perhaps draft a WR like Davis or Ross, who are the best route-runners in the draft. There's no receiver in the draft like a Julio Jones or Dez Bryant. Davis is very interesting as a #2 guy, and Ross is a slot guy who would make Camp and maybe Keenan Reynolds redundant.

Matt Miller has Guillermo as his 10th best center as of a month ago. I'd be very curious to see how that's changed in the last month, especially after two very strong playoff games. However, I really love the idea of getting Harris/Lewis. I think my favorite round one combo at the moment is Jones/Lawson, but flipping those two would be totally fine with me, although, I'm extremely high on Tankersley and White and might rather have them over Lewis.
  38. 3 points
We got away from it because John brought in coaches that like to throw the ball. That was a legit concern about Trestman when he was hired because he did it with the bears. Marty comes in and throws it more than Trestman. This offense is not tailored to our quarterback. Our O-line was a patchwork. I think it was easy to see.

I've long been an apologist for Joe. I still support him and appreciate him, but it's time to be objective. Joe Flacco is not elite. For 4 incredibly well timed games he was. And that is the Joe Flacco we invested in. Can anyone argue that we've gotten a good return on that investment? Any argument about his weapons is irrelevant, we payed a premium for a Qb with the expectations and intent that we didn't need premium players to surround him. The expectations were clear and those are how he and his contract must be judged. In retrospect, it was a poor investment. It was universally mocked, and as sad as it is, for good reason. We bought a lemon, and can't afford sugar.

Really? We've been SO bad at drafting for a while. How on earth can that have nothing to do with us missing the playoffs? Agree! There is a talent vacuum on the team. How did we get here? Poor drafts. What do teams depend on to play at a high level? Playmakers! What are the Ravens devoid of since Ray and Ed left? Playmakers. Seems like a simple equation. If we don't draft a play making corner in the first or second this year I'll lose my mind. There are so many corners worthy of first round picks this year. Most in a draft class I've seen. I really like Quincy Wilson, Tabor, Sidney Jones, and Desmond King. I really hope we draft one of those 4. And there are at least 3-5 other corners that are being projected for the first round, already. Jimmy needs to get healthy, and that's a huge IF, but I actually have faith in that. A true shut down + Tavon + Jimmy = exactly what the ravens need. Adding a shut down corner and a Pro bowl center-through the draft is fine (FA list looks bad) would be the 2 best things for the ravens in this offseason imo.

I have no doubt in my mind that Mr. Biscotti is doing everything in his best judgement to make this team succeed. We the fans are always way more impatient than the ownership. That's probably the fundamental reason most of us would be crappy at running an NFL team. Cause we've seen what changing the FO every other year does to a team from Browns. That's why I was actually relieved by Biscotti's press conference. Despite his cool demeanor, it seemed he too was growing weary of the same recurring issues year after year. Now there should be at least a fire under Harbaugh&Co's collective arses. That said, I don't have much fate that Harbaugh will change enough to save this team. I believe that the issues since our SB win have been more profound than not having good enough OC or being short a solid WR. Harbaugh's head coaching philosophy has led us to having a team of "safe" great character players, who are easy to coach for Harbaugh and won't question him, but also have relatively low ceiling and not much talent or passion (there are, of course, exceptions). We have not taken risks with talented players or "bad boys" or players who might have some character concerns but are fierce in their game. We have lost our edge, our competitiveness (especially now with Smith Sr. gone), our fire, our nastiness. This is just one manifestation of Harbaugh's coaching philosophy, but one of the most evident ones. And that won't most likely change as long as Harbaugh is the HC.

Not sure how often you got a chance to watch the Falcons but Coleman has been a huge factor for that team. As the backup RB he played 353 snaps and totaled 941 yards and 11TDs in 13 games. He averaged 27 snaps per game, touched the ball 9 times per game and 6.3 yards per touch. I would definitely consider him a major factor. By comparison West as the starter played 442 snaps and totaled 1,010 yards and 6TDs in 16 games. He had the same 27 snaps, touched the ball 14 times per game but only averaged 4.4 yards per touch. It goes back to Julio drawing coverage to open things up for other players and also Kyle Shanhan being a great OC. For me it's nothing really special about what Matt is doing other than the numbers. What i've been really impressed with was his work that he put in during the offseason between year 1 in that offense and year 2. Remember last year he was getting beat up pretty bad by fans and media alike, much like Flacco is now. In fact here's a article from the beginning of the season, just after preseason. Everyone should get a kick out of this because it's almost identical to what Ravens nation is going through right now. http://www.thefalcoholic.com/2016/9/2/12754686/matt-ryan-s-future-with-the-falcons-3-possible-outcomes The improvements that Matt made is what has me impressed with him this year, not really the numbers because much of that is aided by having a stud in Julio and a OC smart enough to feed that really good 1-2 punch in Freeman and Coleman. That offseason work is what I want to see from Flacco more than anything. This offense isn't about Joe having a big arm to get chunks. His footwork, reads and overall awareness of where everyone is in the offense must improve and I hope that's his focus this offseason.

I have no problem with him however, the perception that most fans were looking for Harbs, Ozzie or Flacco to be fired is false. What he did NOT address was keeping the likes of Pees & Marty here (though an argument can be made in Marty's case) after that debacle. I like how they talk about expecting more from Flacco (a valid criticism) but ignore the fact that Flacco got the job done in crunch time in Pitt while the defense folded, again, just like they folded in NE giving up 2 14 pt leads. So Flacco performs like he did in 2014 - what good does that do with a Pees' led defense that breaks more often than it bends? Address THAT issue.

It depends on what type of safety you like. I think Adams is more of a sure bet to be a very good safety. I just look at Hooker as a guy who has a rare skill set that is very difficult to find. He's definitely not as safe of a prospect, and I'll freely admit that. I just like him better because I feel like that true rangy, center fielder type is becoming a rarity. I think it comes down to personal preference.

Did read into more and more and delving into more articles, I agree, I don't think Wagner is returning. Biscotti didn't seem all that high on him and mentioned him as a one of the better RTs in the league but not elite, even though his PFF and various other rankings would argue against it. While Wagner certainly is a really solid RT, he doesn't really fit into that power run scheme, he isn't a mauler, and that's exactly what we need. This OL needs another Marshall Yanda or to put into better perspective Kelechi Osemele(Who we sorely missed). This OL is missing a mauler, someone dirty, nasty, and physical. The Ravens offense got away from that physical brand of Football and they need to bring it back and it seems to me Biscotti, Harbaugh and Ozzie wants it back as well. My prediction is that the Ravens become very active in FA. Cut ties with Pitta and anyone who is not pulling their weight. Free up as much cap as possible and sign a CB, OLB, and WR while addressing the draft at OG and C. The biggest problem with the Center position is that we don't really have anyone special there coming via FA. I strongly believe Center is the position that will be addressed because its the weak link of the OL. They talk so much about the OL so obviously that starts with center. Don't think its a forgone conclusion we cut Doom. While it's certainly possible what Biscotti said honestly makes me think about it. Maybe the Achilles injury played a big role into his season. OLB I think is the smokescreen. Back in 2015 Biscotti said the Ravens didn't really need a WR and it wasn't high on the list of needs, 2015 draft arrives and we take Breshad Perriman. I think it's one. I think Breshad Perriman will be relied to step up big time. Draft to me isn't much of an option and free agency isn't going to give us a #1. I think Perriman will be relied to step up as the #1. It's funny because me and plenty of other people on this board talked about him being a #2 but he might actually go into next season as the #1.
